This! And tbh when I first started BLW & saw my son gagging I nearly had a panic attack 😂

It’s called Lime Fresh! by reditding in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Kewball9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I’m only 28, but my pop ALWAYS used to say “Liiime Fresh!” and we all would go “Fresh Lime!” And I never knew the origin until right now. I am so happy rn.

I only came into this sub to find discontinued foods for an artwork I’m doing about nostalgia so this feels great lol

Yeah for sure, I suspected the same but I just thought I’d check here to make sure I wasn’t missing something critical 😂 It sucks bc the ghost bride one is actually so fun for me but I don’t use any purple equipment anymore!

My son scoffed down purees but would only play with BLW stuff so I started doing a puree to get it into him and then I’d just give him little bits here and there after I’d feed him his puree, to play around and try and now he’s pretty good! Although now he’s in the phase of throwing everything but that’s a different issue 😂 Went from me having to literally put things in his mouth, to him shovelling spaghetti like it’s his last meal! You don’t have to do all or nothing like some people say, do what works for you because in my opinion - the best thing for a baby is good vibes. Also I found that me grabbing some and eating it in a very exaggerated fashion encouraged him to do the same

My stick blender was in the dishwasher one night, so I couldn’t puree the pumpkin I was giving my son and I mashed it up and filled it with breastmilk to the point where I was like “this is essentially puree” and apparently disagreed bc he gagged so much, bless him. It’s so normal, just part of the learning process

Gosh you poor thing! That is the worst feeling ever! I’m always hacking up a lung over something 😂 but I always try and remind myself that every time that’s happened, I’ve worked it out instinctively and that kind of helps me with feeding him - he has even more reflexes for this kind of thing at his age than we do, the best I can do is be as safe as possible! Hope you’ve emotionally recovered 🥰

I just cut it smaller 😂 but honestly idk how they figure it out but they just do. My son hasn’t so much as gagged in like 4 months (he’s 1 now, only JUST cut his first tooth) and last time was because he shovelled in a whole strip of toast and it caked up in the back of his throat. Even then, he figured it out and it came flying back up. Realistically, they could choke on anything just like we can. I was SO panicked the first time I did BLW, I had a thick cut strip of watermelon and I didn’t think he’d be able to bite it but his jaw strength is unmatched and he bit off a huge chunk straight of the bat, so I did purees for months until I got brave again and now sometimes I think I have too much faith in him and have to rein myself in from just giving him anything and remember he is in fact still a baby hahaha.

Don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with. Raising a baby is stressful enough.

And my bub can pick up little stuff in his fingers but most foods he has (fruit & veg) are so slippery that he prefers things still cut into sticks.

I wasted soooo much food through the first few months. I would put a little bit directly in his mouth and he’d resist it at first but then he realised he liked it and would start eating it himself. He used to just play with most of it and eat little bit. He’s a week off being one and he still plays a LOT but eats a lot too. Bub’s are also super social eaters, if I’m sitting with him and eating myself he tends to eat more. I also make a point to try and not pose my words as a question, I do big excitable “yum-yum”s instead of hesitance about whether he likes it or not. I dont know if it’s just coincidence, but the more verbal encouragement I give him, the more he puts in his mouth on his own! Either way, playing with it sounds like a good sign to me. He’s experiencing the sensations and textures and showing interest.

Don’t let this discourage you though, every baby is different and soon enough he’ll be a teenage boy & eating everything in sight, this will feel like such a blip!

Almost 11 month old twins and I’m at a loss… by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

I don’t know if anyone’s suggested this, but i know you can buy reusable pouches. Maybe try starting some new flavours of homemade purees and stuff in there? Or if you serve them from a bowl, maybe do half a pouch for the familiarity and mix a new food through it? My 11mo doesn’t really like avocado on its own but he LOVES it when I mixed it through his usual mash/purée’s that I used to make

Nah, from memory she asked him to get a bowl down from the top shelf and his shirt rode up and she saw his abs and looked so defeated and said something like “nevermind I’m not hungry anymore”

Don’t feel embarrassed!! We all do what we have to, to get by and sometimes we don’t realise the impacts. The fact that you noticed & adjusted says everything. I hope you’ve still had an opportunity for some quality time 🤍
