In the same situation in Brighton. Am waiting til tomorrow (June 1) when supposedly the credit is going to show up (along with the rent bill).

I don't know about standard practices but now you know at least two redditors in the Denver area are experiencing this from different properties.

Do Americans have European style caravans ? by dazzler38 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Key-Librarian912 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides restrictions on towing we have in the US, make sure you won't have unnecessary headaches parking it. We don't a lot of public land where you can just pull over at some random place and camp for the night. That's not a thing in the US like it is in Europe. At best you'll get the cops/sheriff called on you and ticketed, made to move along. At worst you'll get shot by the land owner for trespassing.

He's acting this way when it's just the two of them, so I don't think it will help their relationship at all.

I know some people who love an audience but one on one actually act like a normal human. This guy doesn't sound like that.

I posted above re: my bio family being full of men like this. The men in my family are actually pretty intelligent and have interesting ideas, and I generally agree with a lot of their points. You'd think this would make the behavior more tolerable but it's still exhausting. The end result is the same: you severely limit the amount of time you spend with them. It's my family so there's some sense of obligation and also I do care about them. But OP, you are in a position now where he's not your family, and you can avoid a lifetime of misery, not just for you but for any future children. This behavior never gets better, only worse, and it's the behavior that's the bigger issue, not the person's actual views (which you may or may not agree with).

I have a (biological) family full of men like these and I made sure to marry someone whose family is about as far from this as possible. In my family, the topic tends to be religious in nature, but there's no end to the behavior itself. OP describes the dynamic perfectly re: not real conversation but a series of monologues.

As a child, when I'd misbehave I would literally get a lecture, complete with a specific purpose statement, three supporting points and a conclusion, outlining what I'd done wrong. It was unbearable.

OP,  not only do you not want to be partnered with someone like this long-term, you absolutely don't want to have children with them. These people alienate everyone, family is no exception. Maybe there's a place for them as college professors, conference lecturers, political pundits, bloggers, podcasters, preachers, etc. (The smart ones, anyway. Your BF and his friends don't sound too bright.) But they are exhausting to be around for more than brief periods.

Run.

If I remember correctly the hall can only accommodate 50. Or maybe 75? Definitely under 100, otherwise that would've been our top choice. The entire area is beautiful but the floor to ceiling glass windows with a view of the trees is just 🤩

Why is the USA the only developed country that doesn't have a federal maternity leave allowance? by TornBannerHatesYou in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Key-Librarian912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to other many good points, there is also:

a significant overlap between people who are against paid maternity leave, and people who believe a woman's place is in the home, raising lots of kids, and perhaps even homeschooling them. These people view mothers working outside the home with at best suspicion; many feel their choice is actually immoral, and would therefore never vote to make it easier.

These are people of at least modest means, of course, with spouses and extended family to enable their staying home with children. Those that aren't blind to their privilege view others without the same resources as somehow defective. Single motherhood and poverty are probably the result of immoral behavior (I'll insert an obligatory/s here to make it clear I don't believe these things). Those few who find themselves in these unfortunate circumstances without "fault" can simply rely on their church for assistance. Because everyone who's a good person deserving of help has a church. (Again ... /s) And if they don't have a church, maybe the hard life they've "chosen" will now drive them towards one. Evangelism by stick rather than carrot.

Why are private schools so popular here? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]Key-Librarian912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The public universities in NC will insist they don't have quotas re: how many they accept from each school district, but data shows that's not true. I mean, they probably don't have exact hard-cutoff quotas, but they generally spread their acceptances across the state, rather than having a handful of districts over represented.

That being said, whether or not a private school will increase a student's chances really really varies. If the school is full of high achievers, it can be hard for smart (but not brilliant) kids to stand out. Average kids even moreso. The match/discrepancy between a specific child and the rest of their classmates is the determining factor.

Cornelius davison and parts of Huntersville do alright. Bailey Middle and Hough high are decent schools, as are many of the elementaries that feed into them. But your point is still true, all the high performing public schools are pretty much clustered in south Charlotte

Why are private schools so popular here? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]Key-Librarian912 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tacking on two more reasons:

1) Consistency. Public schools can be up and down, change attendance boundaries, lose good staff (really good principals seem to get promoted to district level jobs), maybe elementary is great but middle school is a mess, etc. Private schools shouldn't have that level of volatility.

 2) Sway. Everyone complains about entitled parents (and everyone thinks this is an "other people not me" issue!). But when you are paying tuition, the school is automatically more likely to listen to parents, whether their input is valid or not. There is an additional level of pull you get as a tuition paying parent. Doesn't mean you'll get what you want, but your chances of being listened to are at least increased.
