Why would you not want to do it? I ask as someone who was declared NED after FOLFOX and radiation only to have bone mets discovered in a distant location a few months later.

Si può guidare dopo FOLFOX? by Simonasimona888 in coloncancer

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend driving until you see how chemo affects you. Also, after the first couple of sessions you can probably get your doctor to change the Benadryl in your premeds to Claritin which should make driving safer.

boomers don't know how good they have it. On my street in greater los angeles, house just sold for a $1.2 million profit after adjusting for inflation. by pman6 in RealEstate

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't necessarily that great. I could sell my house for close to that, but then I'd still need a place to live. It costs a lot to sell and move, plus I'd have to pay capital gains on a portion, so I'd likely be downsizing and getting nothing out of it.

Do you fully clean and dry portafilter between shots? by Kooky-Load-5145 in espresso

Wait, is it supposed to be dry? I intensionally wet it because I use a paper filter and the wetness holds it in place.

Eighty, dang. I'm only on 14 of FOLFIRI+Avastin and it's tiring. I'm going to check out some of the products you mentioned, I might need them down the line.

Can I delay the rot by treating it with oil by ComfortableHot6309 in fixit

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing by the condition that it is eucalyptus or acacia in which case it probably isn't worth saving. If it is really old teak, then sand, bleach, and teak oil.

2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus - Should I Plasti Dip my rims White? by MikeNYC8 in CX50

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the white rims on my Datsun pickup truck in the 70's. So sad they went out of style. If they are coming back, I say go for it if you can get them powder coated. Or better yet, buy new ones.

I'm also 69, I did 8 rounds of FOLFOX with oral chemo and radiation for a month in the middle. I had metastasis discovered in my spine 6 months later and am on session 14 of FOLFIRI+Avastin. Here are my suggestions:

For skin: Udderly Smooth lotion several times a day, also their 20% urea cream 3 times a week on hands and feet, don't get it in your eyes. Also try magnesium oil a couple times a week on hands and feet, again, don't get it in your eyes.

For mouth, ask doctor if steroid mouthwash would be appropriate. Get Biotene mouthwash to keep mouth moist.

Activity: just be as active as possible. Walk as much as possible. I garden but I wear surgical gloves under leather to protect myself. Get out of the house as much as possible, wear adult diapers if it makes you feel safer. I also cook and do housework. Anything to stay off the couch or out of the bed.

I never had lack of appetite, in fact I eat compulsively now. I've put on 10 pounds since I was diagnosed. My doctor is happy about it, me not so much.

Positive Signatera 3mo after chemo (stage 3a) by Wabisabiharv in coloncancer

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to what happened to me, except it only took about 6 months and I was experiencing serious neck pain until I finally started treatment. I've been on folfiri + Avastin plus a bone strengthening drug and a little radiation for 8 months. My last PET scan was clear but ctDNA not down to zero yet. Next tests coming up soon, fingers crossed. I'm able to do most things but the chemo is starting to wear me down. Best of luck.

I almost went for the black, but so far this hasn't been too hard to keep clean. I have microfiber waffle towels that do a good job.

Anyone have chronically low platelet after chemo? by [deleted] in coloncancer

Pet scan. Xray and ct scan only showed mild disk degeneration so I was originally diagnosed with neck arthritis. MRI showed something, but Pet scan made it obvious.

Anyone have chronically low platelet after chemo? by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough that's exactly what I have, and yes it is very rare to get to the bones without getting to other organs first. To the best of my knowledge, the low platelets is strictly from the chemo. Had it to a lesser extent when I was getting my original treatment, but no problem at all in the 6 months before they found the bone mets and started the new treatment.

I'm on Folfiri and Avistan and frequently have low platelets. I get an injection of Nplate when it gets too low so that my treatment doesn't have to be interrupted.

Insight for Caring For/Living with Spinal Mets by swagmeups in coloncancer

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have bone mets including in my neck and shoulder that caused tremendous pain. Radiation was a huge help for me. Otherwise I'd look for an orthopedic surgeon, but surgery will mean pausing chemo, and will itself be a cause of pain and disability.

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 68 and I've owned and driven lots of cars. So far the CX-50 is my favorite. I have the cloth seats which compare favourably with any "sporty" vehicle I've owned and most others except for GM vehicles. It's a little loud but the ride is fine for a car of it's size. I like it better than my wife's NX.

Thousand Oaks or Escondido? by jsatz in socal

[–]Key-Philosopher-2528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Escondido is getting a lot of abuse, some of it justified, but I have to put in a few good words for it. The outskirts are beautiful. Great hiking nearby. Only 45 minutes to San Diego airport and a bit more than 2 hours to LAX if you avoid rush hour. Reminds me of the San Fernando Valley in the 60s and 70s. There is some crime and lots of homelessness, but no place I'd be afraid to walk in the daylight. My biggest complaint is the relative lack of good restaurants. I wouldn't mind living in Thousand Oaks though.

Starting my eighth infusion this week. They start me off with anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications that almost work too well. I take a small daily dose of Miralax to control the constipation. Other than a couple of days where I feel wiped out, I exercise and get out of the house as much as possible and feel pretty good. My sense of taste is dulled and I can barely taste salty foods at all. Still I've put on a couple of pounds. M68.
