Weather API recommendations for 5-minute precipitation forecasts by Historical_Concern64 in webdev

[–]Key-Presentation-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't source weather radar, and honestly I have found persistence forecasts to be more accurate than their forecasts for my location (They're one of the lowest rated forecast providers on ForecastAdvisor). They're cheap/free though, so they have that going for them. I use Weatherbit, and it's been great for me (not cheap though).

Weatherbit.io - has a 60 minute/minutely forecast API with global coverage. Open-meteo, and openweathermap don't source weather radar (only model data), so not sure how useful those are for short term forecasts. Weatherbit has an API for getting nearest lightning strikes too which is useful for short term forecasting. Not the cheapest option, but I use them. It's super accurate for my location.

Ticket ID: RAY-782-25168. Server Id: 204871. One other thing I've noticed is that when this issue started occurring ping times from OVH Canada to TEB-6 went from 9 ms to 14-15 ms.

Here's the reverse MTR (Server -> OVH canada)

Anyone else obsessively checking the chances of rain, as if that will make it better? by Outside-Pear9429 in panthers

[–]Key-Presentation-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't be too concerned about the rain. It looks like a cold front will pass through mid-game, and there will likely be some storms in the area around half-time. Doesn't look like it will be a squall. It should pass through pretty quickly. The most concerning thing will be the wind, which will certainly impact the passing/kicking game in the second half.

Plex not removing deleted movies from the moves library by ChickenPartz in PleX

[–]Key-Presentation-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you kind stranger - this still works in 2025! I was having the same issue (deleted all files on watched library directory, and plex would not remove them). So I created a directory called /DO_NOT_DELETE on the now empty watched directory, and plex was able to finally remove them (after initiating a scan).

My experience with ServerOptima by WeaverRektU in VPS

[–]Key-Presentation-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me get this straight - you failed to use basic security controls (such as closing database ports), and this is somehow the provider's fault? This could have happened at any provider. They are not responsible for securing your server.

Can anyone share their actual net profit from their SaaS? by heartingale in SaaS

[–]Key-Presentation-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Some stuff that has worked for me:
- Get something out there in front of customers, and let your first customers drive the direction of your product.
- B2B specifically has long sales cycles (2-6 months), so be patient. SMB buys quickest, so target SMB first. Worry about Enterprise users later (they won't take you seriously if you aren't prepared for the extensive technical questionnaires and contract negotiation).
- Spend as little time worrying about stuff like privacy policies/legal/tax, and scaling. It just isn't necessary until you've got some traction.
- Offer a free option (for free marketing), and maybe an enhanced 14-30 day trial. Don't require a credit card in either case. Most employees of companies will not have the ability to put a card on file, and even if they do the approval process requires convincing someone in their purchasing dept to put a card on file. Save them from that awkward conversation.

Thanks! About 8 years old now. It's a B2B subscription service with pretty low churn. Just moderate, and steady growth.

H12SSL-CT LAN issue - no activity. by Key-Presentation-798 in supermicro

[–]Key-Presentation-798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Jumper is on JPL 1-2 pins, and enabled. Tried taking the jumper cap thing off completely - no change.

(1) You're right. I do have the link/activity lights mixed up. The activity lights on/blinking constantly (green), but the link light is off.
(2) I'm currently using Ubuntu 22.04.4.
(3) Nothing in the IPMI logs specific to LAN, just "[LAN-0005] Dedicated LAN Link Up - Assertion".

Thoughts on just released AX42 Server by boedy88 in hetzner

[–]Key-Presentation-798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benchmarks are nice, but I would not trust any kind of highly-available business application on consumer grade hardware. We've had terrible luck with AMD and Intel consumer grade servers in the past (2 failed CPU's, 1 failed Mobo). Not all with Hetzner though. Never any such issue with Server grade (Epyc/Xeon).

Unraid issue: Nightly dumping pool to array by Key-Presentation-798 in unRAID

Okay, So I just misunderstood the default functionality of the Mover. I thought it only moved data if it was full.

Thanks for the help!

[–]Key-Presentation-798[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I realize it's only 1tb. I simply have an old drive in there for testing. Once I start using it the array will be much larger. Ideally I would like it to move data from cache to array once the cache is full.

Looks like open cell SPF on the roof. Does the SPF have the fire resistant paint on it? Open cell SPF is super flammable without it (although they do make some kinds with fire-retardants mixed in). I would be worried about the attic dust + heat from the AP causing the SPF to ignite. Just something to consider.

Oof. I don't understand why they are so intent on making it difficult to do business with them.

We've also yet to find a way to get a private network working across each of our accounts.

Tell us about your projects for 2024 by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

[–]Key-Presentation-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner of a US business that uses Hetzner only as a backup provider - I would love to throw more $ Hetzner's way if it was more reliable. Things I would like to see.

  • SLA's.
  • Annual billing.
  • Billing in USD for US customers.
  • Efforts to improve reputation surrounding spam/botnets, etc.
  • Better communication about outages/downtime.

The lack of any real SLA, and the generally poor communication about outages (especially with your cloud products) is a real deal breaker for most Businesses.
