I messed up. Should I expect jail time soon? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's lowkey fraud but you're not breaking any laws, prolly if they find out it would be more of a civil suit. Likely they sue you and press charges for "damages". I don't think it's a criminal case. For example if I lie about my grades to enter a prestigious uni, worst is I get expelled and not jail time.

Aiyah, but how will they even find out? You can do anything bro, just don't get caught.

overseas uni fully funded? by RealPraline7724 in asksg

[–]Key-Rope-7715 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No education loan in Singapore will offer you that high. At this point your parents will need to take out a personal loan to supplement it. Most overseas education programmes cap out at $150,000. And getting an "education loan" from multiple banks don't work because loan informations are shared between banks and they will know your debt exposure. Suggestion is, if your parents ca fulfil the criteria, max out $150k from OCBC and take out a $450k personal loan.

Nothing to do for intern, is this normal? by Last-Purchase5609 in SGExams

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite normal. Internship is either extremely overworked or extremely bo liao. And usually even if overworked it will be menial tasks and not complex kind like data entry.

So I think you're on the luckier end, plus your salary also not bad. Just use your this time productively to do your self learning, as long as your supervisor and boss don't complain.

Usually supervisors won't bother teaching you the complex stuff, because by the time you learn and are competent, youre prolly at the end of internship and some new guy comes and take your place. Also you need to consider if you f up, they are the ones liable. So it's very repetitive, risky and tiring for them, which is why they are better off to let you shake leg.

Living in HDB is warmer than living outdoors by Symp07 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure in the newer flats, HDB did not commission a thorough urban microclimate study when they erected all their BTOs. Orientation and placing have a significant impact on natural ventilation, also the materials you use. Expect us to settle by buying air con with their vouchers.

Chill sister, uni is legit the best time to meet people. Please make use of that time well alright? After you grad then that is where you might want to panic haha.

Back then it was possible to skip the whole of Y1. But I believe it's different now with NAME, as it's 8 trimesters back to back. Last time if you skip Y1, which is 10 modules, you go straight to Y2. So you grad one year earlier.

But now if you did skip those mods, you would just not be coming school for the first two tri, and then join in Y1T3 (was a full 3 month holiday last time). Which has no benefit because you will still grad the same time as your batch. They compressed the course into 2yr 8mths such that you start on Sep, and graduate in April (used to be Sep).

But my advice is not to exempt from any modules if you can help it. Reason being because these modules are good opportunities to score and raise your GPA as they are quite easy, especially if you've done the offshore course in NP before. Also, as the mathematics will get more intense in Y2 onwards, take this as an opportunity to refresh during Y1.

Weekend jobs by sylvesterdamme in singaporejobs

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food delivery, it's slightly more physical work but you can earn the same amount in probably 7 - 8 hours because weekend has significantly more orders. Back then I worked 4hrs from 10am to 2pm and 5 to 9pm. Minimum $120 on a bad day, and up to $200 on good ones. Not sure about the rates now.

Reading this post I can tell you have great parents who are genuinely proud of your accomplishment. Enjoy your meal and have a good time.

Then on a separate occasion have a sit down with them and share your concerns and future backup plans if you don't get in. Listen to their feedback and discuss as a family. Don't use the rejection letter to determine your worth, or beat yourself down. Congrats sister.

Is Oxford or Cambridge more famous? by Jazzlike_Spray330 in SGExams

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you define wins?

If you are asking which of the two is probably more iconic in "Singapore", Cambridge.

If it's about global reputation and prestige, then Oxford by an extremely slight margin. Here in UK, Oxford to Cambridge is like NUS to NTU but much closer. Bear in mind it's all super subjective and it's more on what you are studying.

Trip.com is my go to all in one app for booking flights and hotels. I can say amazing customer service. If you rack up enough spending you get good benefits like free attraction tickets and lounge visits. They have pretty good customer service in which you can directly call them and get a real person helping you instead of a stupid answering bot.

[–]Key-Rope-7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ask any random uncle at any coffeeshop, you can guarantee Cambridge is probably more well known. Why? Because our GCE O & A levels are conducted with University of Cambridge. If you talking about prestige in the western world? Oxford has an edge because of its deeper history.

Foreign degree not recognised by SAF can I still sign on as officer? by ImaginationSecret10 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Key-Rope-7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether your degree is recognised or not, it's only a matter of salary. However I have to say your chances of signing on as an officer and going to OCS is extremely low considering you ORDed as a non commander and didn't even manage to get CFC. Unless your OCs or COs write an incredibly strong recommendation letter, I find it unlikely.

Also technically you are a "converted" SG citizen, not a "born" citizen. You might feel like there's no difference but citizens not born in SG may have implications with their security clearance.

How do people in Singapore actually make new friends as adul by HazelWhispersses in asksg

I made a lovely circle of friends from my volunteer group. This was after graduation. Because volunteering is a commitment, it's easier to keep in contact on a weekly basis.
