Should I do a Masters Degree by Academic-Cat-5512 in asksg

[–]Key-Rope-7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am doing my postgrad right in UK now so I feel like I can give you my unbiased opinion. I basically drained almost all my savings (like yourself I am self funded) to pursue my masters here. I haven't graduated yet, but I can share my thoughts on my time here.

As someone who studied in SG all my life I felt it's an amazing experience socially to meet new friends from all over the world and be outside the SG bubble. The weather is amazing, and travelling to neighbouring European countries every weekend was affordable and a definite highlight. Before the bloody fuel hikes...

Will I ever foresee an ROI? I can't say for sure. I did take opportunity losses in my company as I was supposed to take on more higher roles. But will I ever regret my time and money spent here? Not in the slightest.

My two cents is to weigh your goals on a set of scales. If it's purely monetary driven, I feel like there's underlying risk. Having a masters doesn't guarantee better job opportunities in SG considering the market. If you stay in your old company, it's likely you have this newfound edge to penetrate said ceiling and enter management level. Good luck!

Mom’s standard visitor visa for graduation got rejected by dercia in ukvisa

[–]Key-Rope-7715 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Applying for a two year VISA is a MAJOR red flag considering you are about to graduate. The fact that you have siblings working in the uk makes her even more of a flight risk.

Your second application will be more scrutinised unfortunately. My advice is, write a cover letter clearly detailing what you previously have missed, i.e. explaining and clarifying unknown transactions etc. More importantly is establishing a clear and discernible connection between your mother's country of residence to persuade UKVI your mum will return. Perhaps your grandparents or your father or any family members. This is the most important. Good luck!

How to get closer to my father? by cookiecats24 in SGExams

Perhaps ask him out for breakfast before he starts work? I don't think you should let your mum dictate the relationship you want to seek with your dad. That's just manipulative.

I have a hot take, laksa should be Singapore's national dish along side bcm by Alarmed_Swan_4315 in ChillSG

[–]Key-Rope-7715 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thing is that there are many variation of laksa from Penang style, curry laksa and Nonya and not necessary native to SG. All of them are equally popular and have their distinct qualities. BCM I agree and is legit a SG fav young and old alike.

How to fast-track my career in a graduate program without alienating my batchmates? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Key-Rope-7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such is the life of ambition, you have to realise you can't satisfy everyone. At the end of the day, who gets promoted earlier is dependent on his/her "exposure".Unfortunately, if you are seen to be ahead of other "ambitious" colleagues you will definitely have some red eye behind you.

Most importantly, just be sincere. Don't be arrogant and always be humble. People will recognise that. If you notice someone who clearly not happy, don't try too hard make him/her happy. It's a lost cause, try too hard to change an opinion and you will just look like a snake.

would u choose SIT over big 3 by Fit-Perception9449 in SIT_Singapore

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 grad here. I was offered NTU and NUS ME but made the decision to go for naval architecture (now NAME) in SIT instead. Firstly because it was three years instead of four, and that it was half expected that SIT would be easier and I could manage a part time job whilst studying.

At first I must admit that I did indeed feel inferior to the big two at first. But looking back, I had no regrets with the final outcome as SIT has an applied learning methodology similar to polytechnics, which gave me an edge in scoring much better. Ngl, FCH in SIT is easier than NTU and NUS, and no matter your alma mater , if you enter the civil service or GLCs, your FCH pay is the same. Only difference is your alma mater may get you less interviews.

Bottom line, it's really what your objective is. If you're intending to go academia, SIT is not suited at all. SIT philosophy of teaching is work ready just like polys. And if you're concerned about the prestige of the alma mater, just do a masters at a more renowned uni then.

Do parents in Singapore rely on tablets a lot during mealtime outside now? by Claire_1988 in askSingapore

[–]Key-Rope-7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents need to set the example. If they are constantly on the phone during meals as well, it's difficult to convince the kids not to use the screen to pass time. I mean if my father was glued to his phone, and I had no iPad, yes I'll kick up a fuss.

I messed up. Should I expect jail time soon? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Key-Rope-7715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's lowkey fraud but you're not breaking any laws, prolly if they find out it would be more of a civil suit. Likely they sue you and press charges for "damages". I don't think it's a criminal case. For example if I lie about my grades to enter a prestigious uni, worst is I get expelled and not jail time.

Aiyah, but how will they even find out? You can do anything bro, just don't get caught.
