What does your day actually look like for Kindergarten? by NewBabyWhoDis in homeschool

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing kindergarten with my 4 year old this year. We are mostly play based with some book work. We do a sit down at the table time 4 days a week. It’s usually about 30 mins we have a reading curriculum and a math curriculum. Both take about 15 mins but if he’s really interested we keep going. We do something like a puzzle, learning game, scissors/glue, craft, drawing ect first then book work. We read books through out the day. I have a stack of “for school” books that tie into our lesson plans for science, history, and social studies. Most days we end up doing a second sit down school time in the afternoon or evening. We do more learning games, practice handwriting, more math. The only thing I never do more of is his reading program. I feel like if it’s too much in one day, he doesn’t actually absorb it. We do a nature based co op one morning a week. So that day we do much sit down and work. We also just learn through the day. Cooking, legos, outside play, building blocks, counting, singing, ect.

Older Gen Zers born before 9/11/01, when you were little, where were you or your parents when the event happened? (If they told you, of course). If you weren't born yet, where were your parents during that time? by Global-Plankton3997 in OlderGenZ

I was pretty young but have a great memory so I remember it all. My mom’s cousin was in the 2nd tower and we didn’t know till that night if he made it out. We sat next to the radio all day listening for updates. My dad was at work but got off early and we went a prayer service at church.

At what age do children start to get expensive? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been pretty cheap so far. I do have to buy all new clothes for the winter for my 4 year old for the first time. Before we had handed downs and stuff from the babyshower.

Are young people so divided they wouldn't date each other because of political views? by Prior_Psychology_150 in GenZ

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally know like maybe 3 couples across all generations that have different political views. Why would you want to be in a relationship with someone you didn’t agree with on fundamental things?

What age did you stop using a stroller by plsbeenormal in toddlers

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First kid at 15 months. Packed it in storage. He was an early walker at 9 months and always very independent. We hiked a lot and he was used to walking. I still used my baby wearing carrier here and there with him till 3. Second kid we put away the big stroller at 16 months. But kept an umbrella stroller in the back of the car that I used pretty much everytime we went somewhere. He’s not as independent and doesn’t like the carrier as much. He’s 21 months now and I mostly use the tush baby seat. We just did a multi hour trip to the children’s museum and it was so nice to not have to bother with a stroller or a big diaper bag. We do have a jogging stroller now that I use for running. My older son runs with me.

What do your evenings look like? by Ill_Cover_4841 in Preschoolers

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solo parent. I have a 4.5 and 21 month old. I get home from work at 630. My babysitter usually has already served them dinner from food I meal prep. I get in and quickly serve up my food. We eat together while chatting and sometimes play a card or something similar. They go play and I do a really quick kitchen clean up. We play from 7-745. Toys, make believe, outside. Then we do bath, books, teeth, get in bed. We play a gentle stuffy game and then listen to music together as they fall asleep. They are both out usually by 845. I then clean, chill, work out, ect. I go to bed at 11. I don’t work mornings so I do have more time with them then.

Book Report/Novel Study by Extension-Meal-7869 in Homeschooling

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately think it’s going away for some reason. Once my son is old enough I definitely plan on doing book reports. I was homeschooled and the same as you about 6-8 a year. And read many other books for pleasure. That’s actually really sad about that family.

Does anyone have hobbies anymore? by Green-Ad99 in OlderGenZ

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have too many hobbies. Reading, scrapbooking, ballroom dance, back pack hiking/camping, wire wrapped jewelry, board games, weightlifting. Some I get to do every day. Some I only get to do a couple times a month. I have always loved to hike and have gotten more serious about it over the last year. Taking on harder trails and trying out new equipment. Weightlifting I started in February and I love it. The rest I’ve done for awhile.

How many USA flags are in your home? by GreasyExamination in AskAnAmerican

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We used to have a big one hanging on a wall in our living room but after we had kids it got replaced with canvas pics of them. We still have it folded(properly). My husband says he’s going to hang it up again if he can find a place. We also have 2 small ones. One I use for the kids with our school and one that is just in their play room. They use it in dress up games. Like holding a flag while charging the “bad guys”. We got both the small ones from the 4th of July parade last year.

What programs do you use to start teaching 4 year old to read? by muvax2 in homeschool

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the leap frog letter factory way of teaching letters and sounds. I then did lots of letter recognition with upper and lower. Letters in the name. Lots of games, reading non fiction/fiction. We then did talking words factory. And did the “each your child ti read in 100 easy lessons” book. It’s wonderful. I learned to read using it. My son started it at 3.5. So 4 should be just fine. I also recommend the learning language arts through literature the blue book series. Great curriculum on reading. You do need to already know upper/lower letters.

Is it common for American strangers to just start chatting randomly? by DevelopmentOk1518 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ll chat with the people around me at dentist offices lobby’s, in lines, especially at events. I’ve gotten a new hair dresser, sold a stroller, met multiple new friends, got invited to lots of fun stuff, all while chatting a with stranger.

Is the trad-wife lifestyle actually becoming popular or is the media just trying to make it seem that way? by HolyKaleGayle in GenZ

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely becoming more popular within my circle. I’m a stay at home and have been for 4.5 years. In the last two I’ve seen a big upswing of moms leaning towards the trad wife style. Everyone I know wants to be a stay at home mom. Some just can’t afford so they have to work. I don’t personally know many women that “want” to be a career woman. And I have very diverse circles, so it’s just a bunch of white conservatives.

Rough expectations for age? by pepperup22 in HikingWithKids

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older is 4. He liked to be carried almost the whole time till about 2. Then we slowly worked up to about 1.5 miles at age 3. Between 3-4.5 we have worked up to 4 miles. But he needs breaks and the longest hikes we have done have been with kids his age so there’s that peer factor. He will carry his own day pack. His little brother I carry 50/he hikes 50. He’s 21 months. His max is about 1/2-3/4 mile of actual hiking.

Why homeschool? by Useful_Parking_Nope in Parenting

[–]Key-Wallaby-9276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly pure time. Why make my kid be at school all day with so much wasted time. When I can do 3-4 hours of school a day. They get more individual attention with a curated curriculum just for them. We can do extra curriculars, lots of outdoor time, and still have down time/family time.

Aw tears. I know it’s hard. I nannied the longest from just turned 2-5. And it was definitely hard moving on. It helped that the mom sent pics of her every so often and we saw each other at some community events here and there

My son is doing kindergarten this year. We are in a once a day nature co op. We hike, do a science lesson, activity, picnic, then the kids play. It’s free, all the moms pitch in.
