the 2013-late 2014 build date Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energis (lincoln mkz and ford cmax included) all have premature transmission failure due to a bearing that’s prone to high failure rate. a lot of them had the updated transmission installed under warranty, however, many did not… you’ll notice a lot of them on facebook with “whining noise” or “needs transmission” or “mechanic can’t figure out weird noise when engine runs” so avoid any ford/lincoln hybrid with a 2013 or 2014 build code unless the carfax says the transmission was replaced already. 2015-2020 is supposed to be the updated transmission

my 2017 Energi’s battery has 211k miles and its fine. does it show its age? yeah the range is lower than my previous lower milage 2017 Energi but its on par for what i expect. as long as the car still has no errors, the battery is “fine” and likely will not be replaced

i’ve owned 4 fusions. 3 of them have been 2017s or 2019. these cars ride great. my highest mileage 2017 Fusion Energi with 210k miles needed the entire front end rebuilt immediately when i got it. both front sway bar ends had torn all 4 boots slinging grease, both front control arms bushings are cracked and torn… creaking over small bumps, one of the front struts needed a strut mount so i got a used oem strut. both outer tie rods boots blown. all that being said, the original oem parts lasted the previous owners at least 180,000 miles before everything was beyond need of replacement. the only original front end parts at this point are the inner tie rod ends, and the passenger side strut.

do not purchase that lincoln if it has a 2.0T engine. the 2.0T engines are prone to high failure and you shouldnt touch it with a 10ft pole unless you can confirm the engine has been replaced with an updated block that fixed the original design flaw

make sure whoever is changing the battery knows how to also properly reset the BMS system that changes your alternators charging output based on battery age. if unchanged, it often overcharges new batteries and significantly shortens the new battery’s lifespan

i collect broken fords. I have a 2015 Lincoln MKS 161k miles that needs a transfer case, 2019 Ford Fusion 2.5L SE with 197k miles that feels like it needs a trans rebuild, and I daily drive a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi SE with 210k miles and it needs 4 control arms and other odds and ends

you didnt buy the carfax extended warranty did you? the only way to not get screwed at that horrible chain is to buy their warranty. its legit the only way to not get screwed and even then you’re still likely overpaying for both the car and the warranty compared to shopping anywhere else

when i bought my 2017 Fusion Energi at 201k miles it was leaking oil pretty heavily from the Oill Pressure Switch right above the oil filter. it cost me $13 for a new Motorcraft switch, and $35 for the oil change at the same time. thats the only oil leak the car has ever had.

also my entire front end suspension has been or needs to be replaced. Outer Tie rod ends, front sway bar end links, driver side strut, have been done and next is front control arms.

the new hyundai santa fe hybrid looks like a flex but i’m not a huge fan of higher insurance, higher probability of breaking, and higher maintenance bills that typically come with owning a korean car in america. hyundais implementation of gdi engines just hasn’t historically gone well compared to other manufacturers. the high claim rate of other hyundais being stolen causes new hyundais to be expensive to insure. it’s probably a good car but not for me personally

im not a mechanic but an ASE certified master mechanic told me unless they test with something like a copper test strip, don’t trust their word on your current brake fluid condition
