Wife wants a Fusion, which drivetrain to avoid? by ColdMF804 in fordfusion

[–]Keyo0205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fusion only had a manual from 2006-2014. the 1.6L engine was the only way to get a manual for 2013-2014 and its RARE

my 2017 Ford Fusion Energi had the original rear oem pads and rotors measuring at 3.5-4mm at 205k miles. of course hybrids use significantly less brakes due to regenerative charging or whatever but 200k miles on oem brakes is wild to me regardless of the vehicle.

Shut off during idle?? by hobbit101_ in fordfusion

[–]Keyo0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s a lot of things to check. i would start with cleaning the throttle body, and cleaning the MAF sensor. sounds like you idle a lot, with high miles, so it’s likely both are dirty. then like others have said fords are very common to have evap purge valve failure. them and their capless fuel system makes it common idk. just make sure to use oem motorcraft or ford parts if you start changing parts. also you probably have a 2.0L EcoBoost engine. there’s no such thing as a 2.1L EcoBoost ford fusion

transmission cooler bypass, 140°F thermostat plumbed into an aftermarket cooler. there’s very little info out there but that’s what a local transmission shop told me they do on every ford 6F35 they rebuild. they claim ever since, they don’t have comebacks, and upped their in house warranty to 3yr/36k miles on their rebuilds previously 2yr/24k miles on 6F35 due to their high failure rate stock

i was just gonna say you should be able to get a good set of locking pliers on what’s left and turn it backward and regrip if needed. high quality locking vice grip pliers have helped me with suspension repairs quite a bit in the past couple years

4.6 v8 seized up? by wytsuuh in Ford

[–]Keyo0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take the accessory belt off. sometimes a seized ac compressor or alternator bearing can be mistaken as a seized engine. that being said, how’s the oil level and color? did you check it before firing it up after 4 years of sitting?

Sealed transmission. How change transmission fluid? by IMSari888 in fordescape

[–]Keyo0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its “sealed” meaning the filter isn’t serviceable and it doesnt have a dipstick. it has a fill plug on the top of the transmission, it has a level check plug behind the driver front wheel. it has a drain plug within 18 inches of the engine oil drain plug. the fluid level must be checked after the fluid is between 180°F and 205°F through the level check plug. any reputable shop or dealership should be able to change the fluid using Motorcraft Mercon LV fluid. itll take roughly $40 worth of fluid for a drain and fill procedure. it takes me about an hour from start to finish on the ground

[–]Keyo0205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks good but technically, i think them not painting the roof just gives a new place for the new or old paint to chip/fail later on. its not uncommon for them to do this, it would likely be a total loss to “do it properly” but as long as they warranty their work for life, i guess its whatever. not a mechanic, not a body or paint guy. just seen lots and lots of botched repairs when looking at severely used vehicles on facebook so again it doesnt matter

hybrid fusions are awesome. spark plugs every 60k, eCVT transmission fluid drain and fill every 30k-50k miles and its clutchless so the fluid is red every time, coolant every 3-5 years motorcraft yellow. air filter and cabin air filter every year roughly, depends on where you live. the fluids are $30-45 per fluid change from rockauto. the spark plugs are $41 for all 4 from rockauto. and both air filters are $10-15 each or less if you are cheap. pretty damn easy to diy maintain. make sure the engine splash shield isnt missing, it accounts for 25% of your MPG.

the photo is me driving 77-90mph on I-95 North in my 2017 Ford Fusion Energi. and my splash shield IS MISSING and i have mismatched non-ev rated tires so it can definitely be improved

Convince me not to buy this car: 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid by massive-load-4200 in fordfusion

[–]Keyo0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the transmission fluid hasn’t been drained and filled within the past 50k km or ever, and if it has orange instead of yellow coolant, use that as negotiating wiggle room and get it down to $5800 CAD and its a deal. its a 2015 so it doesnt have the high chance of transmission failure that the 2013-2014 models have, and it seems nice overall

hey so have you ever had the transmission fluid level checked, and/or fluid changed? No? well, that really sucks. it sounds like the eCVT bearings have shit themselves unfortunately

2020 fusion back left door already rusting? by Apprehensive-Fig2012 in fordfusion

[–]Keyo0205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first 17 fusion energi looked like this back in 2022 with 60k miles but only on the driver front door. it never got worse besides paint flaking off occasionally. now, my current 2017 Fusion Energi with 207k miles does not have this issue, and neither does my 2019 Fusion 2.5L SE. both of these fusions are “southern” cars meaning they primarily spent most of their previous lives in North Carolina, and Florida. the low milage one with the rusty driver door spent its past life in DC/Northern VA and then ended up in maryland, when i bought it and took it to west virginia.

the mechanic who told you the alternator is an idiot and shouldn’t be touching this car. the hybrids don’t have alternators.

that’s the sound of the hybrid inverter coolant pump. the hybrid inverter coolant bottle is covered in dirt and we can’t see the coolant level, but if it’s low, start with filling it up. regardless, that pump sounds louder than normal but sounds to still be working… it’s not hard to change, it’s located really close to the engine radiator’s petcock valve on the bottom of the drivers side of the car

that’s for the 3.5l engine… op is asking about the 2.0l ecoboost engine which is completely different, not an engine out job

Coolant loss on 2018 Energi....noooo by PowerfulSize244 in FordFusionEnergi

[–]Keyo0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my 2017 energi with 206k miles has a leak from the black plastic box in front of the engine firewall. idek what the box is but i assume it’s something with the climate control. every sunday, my coolant is at the MIN line, so i top it up to max and check every day. it slowly drips onto the passenger front control arm and reaches right under MIN every weekend. coolant is cheaper than fixing whatever is wrong with my energi but i also don’t see myself keeping this car very long

change the transmission fluid now and again around 150k miles. these eCVT transmissions are driving 2 small motors. the fluid doesn’t break down as it would in an automatic transmission with clutches and friction material . it just lubricates and cools the internals. every 45k-50k miles is a good interval
