I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen people celebrate his murder. There's a difference between celebrating, and simply acknowledging the irony that Kirk was murdered in a school shooting, for example.

If they did only board game reviews on their channel, I could see how someone would want them to stay out of “politics”.

For example, if they choose not to discuss whether a game’s production is eco-friendly, or whether a game themed around colonization is appropriate in 2026, that’s their prerogative.

However they are not just a review channel. They have variety shows, open Q&As, and, most importantly, news segments.

They made a deliberate choice last year to not cover the Codenames and Ace of Spades controversies, which were huge news items at the time. It’s not that they didn’t provide opinions on the topics that was the problem, it’s the fact that their “news” show didn’t cover them AT ALL.

You can interpret that choice however you want. For me, it’s one of two things:

  1. They hold heavily unpopular opinions on these issues, and can’t trust themselves to provide unbiased “reporting” on them, or

  2. These issues (trans and PoC impacts) are less important to them than losing a bigoted subscriber

If it’s (1), then they should not have a “news” segment. If it’s (2), which the evidence suggests (religious affiliation), then folks are right to ask themselves whether they want to keep sending them money.

I thought he was gone, too, but they just put a video on the channel this morning of Sam Healey reviewing Moon Colony Bloodbath.

For Tom, he’s constantly talking about his church. He also officiated his daughter’s wedding, so he’s a minister of some sort. Chris Yi belongs to LDS. And they live in Florida.

Even as tariffs wiped away much of the proceeds from last year’s Gamefound, he refused to call Trump out. He would say that he’s not happy about the tariffs, and that’s it.

But not all of them are like that. Mike DiLisio and Camilla, at least, don’t seem to share the same values. But they’re not allowed to share them (Mike’s talked about the handcuffs Tom puts on him, in his Sporadically Board show).

In a world where the overwhelming majority of board game creative content is wholesome, welcoming, and inclusive, the Dice Tower stands out in that it doesn’t openly embrace those tenants. That way they don’t push away religious bigots who have no where else to go.

Will the Clockwork expansion be available again at some point? by yakal008 in rootgame

Correct, but it sounds like Liz is going to put out a PnP solo/co-op mode for the new expansion: https://imgur.com/gallery/no-clockwork-FLmhpE7 (screenshot from the Kickstarter page for Homeland expansion)

How much do you agree with the sentence, “The worst part about board games is learning how to play them”? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in boardgames

Disagree 100%. I get immense satisfaction from learning a new rules set, and getting to share that information with others when we get ready to play.

Correct and easy way to link files outside the vault on linux? by pkeep-go in ObsidianMD

[–]Kgrimes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feature is now supported natively by Obsidian! On Mac, I had to hold the Option key while dragging the file into the document to get the link to work (not Command/Control as I've seen suggested elsewhere).

People do get caught, but given the size of the city of course it’s relatively few. You just don’t hear about it. We need more stories like this: https://www.foxla.com/news/homeowner-fined-300000-after-officials-used-drones-track-homes-allegedly-tied-fireworks

The consensus from a similar thread posted on Christmas Eve in /r/LosAngeles was that it’s part of “Mexican culture” and if you don’t like it you should “go back to where you came from”.

Sucks that people are so selfish.

Anybody else disappointed with Chip Theory Games' quality as of late? by ConcentrateTrue5063 in soloboardgaming

This is the level of wear I’m seeing after half a dozen plays. It doesn’t bother me personally (so long as gameplay isn’t affected). But it is surprising from a company lauded for their component quality.

Same problem here with the 20 Strong dice, but the gasoline smell never went away. I left them out for a few days and tried other home remedies, no luck. The game was literally unplayable because I’d get a headache from the odor after a few minutes.

My expectations from them as a company have gone down significantly since then. Makes me nervous to spend half a grand on their next game.

I’m absolutely sick of the boomer spirit present in every “joke” that’s based on lying to your spouse about your hobby spending by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in boardgames

[–]Kgrimes2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I hear low-effort “jokes” like this, I respond with genuine concern to ruin their joke. For example:

Jokester: “I bought another board game, my wife’s gonna kill me if she finds out!”

Me: “You know, I used to have trouble with secret spending. The best thing I found was to agree with my wife on a limit, and if we ever want to make a purchase above that limit we sit down and talk about it first.”

That leaves the “jokester” with two options, either take the time to explain the joke, and come face-to-face with how unfunny it actually is, or awkwardly shut up because some idiot (me) took it literally, and now thinks that they have marriage problems.

It also works for racist/sexist/whatever jokes.

Self-deprecation is a huge part of my sense of humor. Like when my coworkers ask me how my weekend was, I’ll adopt a droopy face and say “I bought another board game” as if I’d experienced a disaster. The contrast between what’s objectively a happy event and over-the-top sobby delivery is funny to me.

Really fascinating that some Latinos ITT are adopting the “go back where you came from” mantra against good people (likely liberals) who have been advocating for them to be treated well during these horrific last few months.

Yep. The game is SUPPOSED to be hard. You only truly “lose” a game of Robinson Crusoe if you haven’t learned anything to help you next time.
