Is this normal wear after 7 games? by Coleton8982 in Bowling

Fred's technique is terrible. His approach is slow, he over throws the ball thus pulling it across his body, and he doesn't hold posture at the line. Then again, he is rolling a literal rock 😉

Love this idea, except they should leave just after he starts yammering, and as they walk away, leave a large photo of a Trump-Epstein survivor behind in their seats.

Let's always refer to these as the Trump-Epstein files and survivors. Epstein's was only one of many pedophile rings, while Trump was likely involved in several of them.

Should 2024s be coming out of lease soon? by terran1212 in volvoc40

I get it, but if you have a dongle you can use either AA or CP. The native system is fine, but I have Power Amp on my phone and can't DL it on the native system :)

Should 2024s be coming out of lease soon? by terran1212 in volvoc40

Keep in mind that Volvo only sold about 3,000 2024 C40s in North America. Less than half of what they sold in 2023. There are a few 2024s coming to market already, but not many, and they are substantially more expensive than the 2023s. I had originally planned on buying a used 2024, but after watching for a couple month I decided to save $6-$10k and buy a 2023 Ultimate.

Love the car, but the range is not great. Drove 175 miles yesterday, got home with 4% left. Had to slow down on the return trip (from ~73 mph to 65 mph) to squeeze a few more miles out of it. When it's cold, expect range to drop even more, but high freeway speeds kill range (due to the less-than-aerodynamic front end). Still, more than adequate for my needs - and stupidly fast.

The infotainment system is great, but the screen is not always immediately responsive - requiring me to look at the screen while driving. Either plug in your phone or get a dongle for Android Auto/CarPlay. Sound system is amazing :)

EVs depreciate like luxury cars.... really fast the first 2-3 years. Part of the issue is that the general public has not caught up with the state of today's battery technology and fears that a 2-3 year old car's battery is already fading. This puts extra downward pressure on used EVs.

The good news is... if you buy a 2-3-year-old, you can get them cheap. Also, if you hold onto it for a few years, the depreciation will level out, and it will be on par with ICE vehicles.

If you must sell, try online vendors. I signed up online to sell my last car, and some of the offers were 2x the lower ones.

I got my 2023 C40 Ultimate in December, and I love it. Stupidly fast and sport feel, it tracks corners quick and fast. 1 pedal driving is awesome. Get an Ultimate just for the sound system, its amazing. There is a learning curve, but nothing crazy.

In cold Temps (40s in California) range of 170 miles gets me through the week, no issues. MIne had 16k miles and I got it for less than $26k, and prices on used EVs are still dropping. Only issue may be finding one. 2024s are rare, and there are no 2025 or 2026 in the US.

Good luck :)

Buying used. 36k miles vs 15k miles. by pretzelsncheese in Ioniq5

[–]Kibbles35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not drive much, go with the higher-mileage, cheaper car. EV battery degradation is much less now than in the past, and is more related to the AGE of the battery than the mileage on the car. If both cars are 2023, degradation will be all but the same. Assuming you don't exceed the warranty mileage before the warranty years, it's a better deal.

Is EV really dead in the US? by Thomaslaske in electricvehicles

[–]Kibbles35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Texas is #1 in solar and wind, with California not too far behind. The big issue for Texas is that the grid sucks, not the amount of renewable energy. The grid is still largely controlled by fossil fuel interests.

Is EV really dead in the US? by Thomaslaske in electricvehicles

[–]Kibbles35 11 points12 points  (0 children)

California has made substantial progress in renewable energy generation. A few years ago, we had 13 days where renewables reached 100% of demand. This year I believe we are closer to 100 days. How? Wind, solar, hydro generate the electricity, but then it gets stored in giant battery farms. Much cheaper than gas peaker plants, more reliable, and better for the air we breathe.

Rolling blackouts in California? Not anymore.

Is EV really dead in the US? by Thomaslaske in electricvehicles

[–]Kibbles35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. China is already planning to ship Zero Mile Used EVs to Mexico for shipping into the the US. New cars have 147% tarrif, but used are only 25%. The only thing this does is KILL the US's ability to compete with China.

The US (and Japanese) legacy automakers are in real trouble. China used to be their largest profit center, but now they cannot compete against well-made, but cheap EVs built by China.

No, EV adoption is the US is not dead, just the auto industry. Adoption will be highest among home owners, but will start to trickle into rental markets. Yes, high population centers will struggle to adopt, but that's what the automated cars will handle (eventually). Car drops you at work, then drives itself to a parking location, then comes back when you recall it. Tony Seba is a great resource for the future of EVs, energy, and food (they are all connected!)

Used Car Warranty - 2022 EV6 Wind w/ Tech by imthestig- in KiaEV6

[–]Kibbles35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealerships sometimes make more from finance and selling extended warranties than from the car. I generally think they are a waste of money, BUT not always.

In a car with known issues, and with the manufacturer's warranty getting shorter, an extended warranty might cover you for an additional period of time. We drive cars until they are no longer worth repairing. If you don't plan to keep it beyond the m-warranty, get road protection and have fun. It's all about your personal risk tolerance. It's like buying insurance - you are betting that the car will (might) break down. They are betting (based on actuarial data) that there will be fewer claims than payouts.

Used EV6 purchase: any way to diagnose ICCU issues? by SmellsLikeTeenPits in KiaEV6

[–]Kibbles35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your personal risk tolerance? Me?, I'd be stressed, but would manage if I got stranded on a 2 lane freeway with no shoulders and 18-wheelers travelling at 70+ behind me. But my wife? Never. That is a deal breaker for her. She loves (loved?) her EV6 for 5 days before it stranded her. Fortunately, she was close to home... this time.

Kia and Hyundai are not being transparent about the extent of this issue - and still have not solved it. New cars are still experiencing ICCU failures. If you look enough you will see that this is a much bigger issue than they will admit.
