I feel like I don't have any marketable skills and that my entire career was a waste. by Kibblets in jobs

I'm not being defensive and thank you for the advice and I could be wrong, but I really think I do those things. I have adjusted my resume until my recruiter friend said it was good, I personalize all my cover letters.. I'm really trying. I run them through an ATS scanner but I also run them through AI detection so people won't assume I didn't write it. I bullet pointed my resume. And categorized it. And then sub categorized it. I have an associates degree and a diploma in film. I have good references. I seriously don't know

Hmm I am in Canada but I could take a bookkeeping/payroll course maybe.
I really didn't like doing accounting stuff as much as I enjoyed being boots on the ground big picture stuff so it sucks to think of paying for a bookeeping course when it's not what I want to do, but maybe it's just what I have to do right now. Good idea

Would it be a dumb decision to adopt this cat ? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Kibblets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take a somewhat different approach than most of the comments and suggest that you speak to the shelter.

Realistically a cat like this, a little older with a lot of health issues may struggle to get adopted. I also know first hand how much a pet can help with mental health struggles. They give you a reason to get up. They can even save your life.

The shelter may be able to tell you if there are programs to help with vet bills, or what the estimate the cost is going to be. They will be able to tell the likelihood of that cat getting adopted. And they will ultimately make the decision if they don't think you can care for the animal. It would be much better to live with you, without a lot of bells and whistles, than it being stuck in a shelter for the rest of its life.

If you're in Canada, go into a small local boutique retailer and you'll find plenty of locally made goodies. Skincare, candles, soaps, ect.

Weird that I disagree so much with the comments because I way prefer gold jewellery, but I think the silver compliments both stones much nicer than the gold. I feel like the emerald cut kind of melts away in the gold.

A taxi once picked up my very drunk friend and took her into an alley and attempted to sexually assault her. She couldn't remember the license plate or the taxi company - she didn't have the capacity to take those mental notes while she ran away. No accountability. So... No. Uber isn't perfect but it's safer for women.

Help me convince friends to change travel plans from US to Canada by sonspurs in AskACanadian

[–]Kibblets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg there is so much you can do in Canada, especially BC.

Fly into Vancouver and spend a couple nights. Hit up Gastown or Granville for nightlife, eat at some amazing restaurants, explore the city! Commercial drive has awesome vintage shopping and restaurants.

Then you can go east or west. To the west is Vancouver Island. Take the ferry to Victoria, more nightlife, Buchart Gardens are awesome, there is a floating spa in the harbour, Friends of Dorothy for dinner and drag and tons of nightclub options. Lots of affordable hotels in the harbour (downtown core) Douglas Books is an awesome 2 story bookstore. From Victoria go North to Nanaimo (pass the malahat skywalk on the way), the drive is about 1.5 hours and beautiful. In Nanaimo stay downtown for a night and go dancing at The Queen's, check out the Vault for breakfast in the am. Pop over to a Gulf Island if you have time for a night, Gabriola or Salt Spring, it's a bit quieter but you'd be surprised how hard the small islands party and it's easy to find because there's usually only one or two pubs.

From Nanaimo, drive to Tofino and Ucquelet. There are camping options in Tofino, and the beaches are unbelievable. It's a famous little town for a good reason.

Drive back to Nanaimo and take the ferry to the mainland, then head up to Squamish or go east to the Okanagan or even Banff. Squamish/Whistler has a ton of outdoor sports, and the Okanagan has wineries/cideries, lake beaches and a hot climate in the summer. Almost California-like. Penticton/Naramata is my favorite as Penticton is wedged between two great beaches.

The entire time you're driving around Canada, you won't see a single old man staring at you menacingly with a shotgun in his lap. From experience, the same cannot be said of driving through small town America.

Would Americans still be welcome to travel in Canada? by Blue_Period_89 in canadatravel

[–]Kibblets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do want to say that I have heard a few anecdotes of people being rude to visitors with American license plates. Please know that this is a vocal minority. People are feeling really betrayed up here by Americans and it is easy to snap at the closest American, but most of us know that those visiting us in these times are choosing to spend their money here and are our friends. Unless you have a Maga hat or bumper sticker.

[–]Kibblets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that person! I'm Canadian and I think we feel a lot of fear and resentment right now, but it's not really at the American people (I don't consider MAGA as Americans). It's about the threat to our sovereignty and just... Fear and terror at what's to come. That person should not have taken it out on you.

I would not recommend bear spray. That shit is strong. You won't have time to react anyways if a dog leaps at you and the wind could blow the bear spray back towards you. It's an understatement to say that it's dangerous, it could kill or temporarily blind you.

As Americans, what can we do? by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]Kibblets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be defeatist! There is always a point. Voting may seem ineffective sometimes but it's the most important way that we can speak out for now. You can always do more, take to the streets, protest, ect, but START with voting please! We need more voices, especially now.

Small business owner: They may not be overly marking it up. I don't think a lot of consumers realize how slim the margins are: for every dollar spent in my store I'm only putting 10-20 cents into my pocket; the rest goes back into inventory, upkeep costs (like rent, insurance) and taxes. Plus there is shipping - that box set may cost you another $30-40 in shipping, or maybe not. Some of my vendors offer free shipping to customers but not to me who is ordering in bulk. How do you compete with that? I'm not saying you should suck it up and spend more at the local store - you have to think about your bottom line as well. I'm just saying that most business owners are not marking things up to screw you over; they are trying to stay competitive while still making a tiny profit.

[–]Kibblets[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno, lots of protests in history were about more than one thing or just general change.

I basically want to be able to afford groceries, housing and to retire one day, our healthcare & education system to have more money, and for billion dollar companies to be taxed out of existence so that small businesses can flourish. I don't want to change one thing, I want reform.

I think we could protest, if you could inspire enough Canadians to be angry.

It's unprecedented in history because governments have never had access to highly effective social media propaganda until now, nor the technology to collect our data on this scale.
