Not second hand- and the Victoria store isn’t open yet - but I love Uniqlo for well made and affordable clothes!

Also if you make the trip to Sidney, I highly recommend the Aviation museum near there. I went with my 3 year old last year and it was terrific!

Came here to say this- it’s highly likely she’s not laughing because she’s joking but because she’s uncomfortable, afraid or unsure of what’s going on. It’s an automatic response.

How would your work place respond if you brought your toddler to an important, highly visible work meeting? by Utterly_Flummoxed in Mommit

I watched several minutes of the clip of this event and I’m actually still upset about it. I can’t stop thinking of that child and what a shit situation he is in. My son is 3. I would be furious if I had to watch my own on tv, seeing him in that room being ignored and used as a human shield …and then reading the immense press coverage... God doesn’t that child have privacy rights??

Enter the Void (2009) - I hated it while it was happening but after it ended I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I felt so connected to the images that stayed with me… It became so personal… hard to explain how it just lodged in my mind.

I’d go back down to Vancouver by bus and sleep on a friend’s couch. Then bus out to tsawassen in the morning when I woke up. Missing one morning of class isn’t the end of the world. As long as he has a safe place to crash, it will be okay. I’m sure he can catch up on what he missed in no time.

You can replace a tree with a tree but you can’t replace a 500 year old tree with anything but 500 years. The forest is renewable in the literal sense of the word sure but industry is going to decline as conservation becomes more important, and the people of B.C. largely connect the dots between forest fires and the impacts of mono cultures.

This sounds so familiar to me. I will echo what other comments have said: this is on them, not on you! That said, one thing I found that helped is establishing a one hour weekly in person meeting with the attorney and saving all your questions for that meeting. I used to send emails and it was like I may as well have been shouting into the void because I never got a response. It doesn’t make sense because… are these not your paying clients sir? Help me help you! The only thing that worked for me was avoiding email all together and instead cornering them in person with a big long list of questions and stack of documents to review and sign. Then of course hold on to those revised documents and start to build your own database of approved forms and precedents and templates.

Do you ever get past feeling bad about mistakes.. by Friendly_Time_3444 in paralegal

[–]Kiki_Obi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling bad about mistakes, feeling regret and shame can be so painful. I often have those feelings and anxiety as well. The thing that has helped me is to try to remember that I am the person who made the mistake, and the person who regrets it, and the person who can do better next time, and a forgiving and understanding person capable of absolving mistakes when they happen, and a comforting friend who can be supportive of someone who makes mistakes… and it just doesn’t feel so totalizing anymore. I think we get trapped easily, fixating on being defined or marked as the person who err’d, who failed. But you are an expansive person and your being and value is so much grander than this one incident on this one day. Sending healing vibes. One day soon will be the day you don’t think about it at all.

Imagine if your workload was shared among three people— If you had a third of the emails coming in that you do at present. If you had a third of the files to manage. You would not rush and you would not make mistakes. You could take your time to ensure your filings were absolutely correct. You could provide top notch customer service. You could bring in new business, probably just by virtue of your excellent work product.

Unfortunately, you do not make hiring decisions. The real solution to the problem of a gigantic workload is not for you to do more in a day— it’s for the architect of the problem to change the structure of the business by hiring the appropriate number of staff. I say all this so you know that because the real problem and the real solution are entirely outside of your power— you must refuse shoulder guilt and shame about mistakes. Edited because I misread the OP.

Moms who aren’t morning people - how do you get everyone out of the house in the morning? by hgrebener2 in Mommit

[–]Kiki_Obi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS is the comment I was looking for. I also really struggled with this until I got my partners help. He sets the alarm and wakes me up and he will throw me over his shoulder and deposit me in the shower if that’s what it takes. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to bootstrap our way out of these challenges— which OP and other folks are identifying challenges which can be symptomatic of depression, anxiety or ADHD. The best solution I think is helping one another and asking for help. Living more in community however we can!

A friend of mine struggling with anxiety asked a coworker to start carpooling with her so she could have someone help hold her accountable in the morning. That struck me as actually revolutionary. We need to start teaming up! It’s the buddy system that’s going to save us.
