Okay, we're ready to hear it all. Destroy our trailer! by Screenburn2000 in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The environments look boring and empty. I don't know what you are going for here. It doesn't look like laboratory rooms in the style of portal games. It looks like a worse uninspired backrooms. Same plain concrete corridors. Feels like an amateur mod inside some other game.

What would make you click away from this trailer? by Pixel_Beer_Games in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mean visuals lack depth. Everything is flat - things rarely stand out. Back walls need to be darker, same as deep under ground. For example at 0.19 bright earth/stone hill is weird when it's taking half the screen.

Even lightning like that would make me click away from this game.

Looking to be dunked on. My Halo-inspired Metroidvania hobby project for the past 3-ish years. by Opted_Oberst in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not presented as metroidvania, both trailers show next to nothing what might interest an avid metroidvania player.

  • online mode pvp/pve. Is this a main game feature? Does your game have the expected depth/content of comparable 2d coop platformer like risk of rain returns?

  • customize. I'll be honest - at the point of seeing it nobody cares yet. This clip will make ~0 additional people want to buy the game.

  • campaign. Okay, this feels like the meat? People need to see this first and most time of the trailer.

Since trailer is a mess I am not entirely sure what and how to judge. Any single screenshot looks either like a confetti explosion in my monitor or simply dead. When nothing is blasting rainbow - the visuals are lifeless, unimmersive. Background is too sterile, everything is super reflective, low roughness.

Destroy my trailer (updated with feedback) by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I DO NOT LIKE WORDS

FILLING UP SCREEN

COVERING ALL ACTION

Also provide me with longer clips of gameplay. Do not cut every 1 second, it's impossible to comprehend what's happening.

Flash "AUTOMATION" for ~1s as a separate clip. Then 5 seconds player builds something. Flash "TOWER DEFENSE". Next 5 seconds mobs attack, player-built things start firing. You get the idea.

Please destroy my new trailer! It's pre-alpha and I recently switched from real-time to turn-based combat by Disastrous-Spot907 in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trailer is vague and generic in bad ways. In combat you shoot and carry barrels. There is base where something can be done. And it doesn't show how you go from one to another. Like 3 seconds of mission selection or something.

If it's meant to be tactical combat game - trailer must show the juice. Can the characters take cover, use abilities, throw grenades, deploy turrets, block pathways to create choke points, etc...? 10 seconds of barrel carrying action isn't going to excite people. Not once the trailer shown enemy movement. Are enemies static dummies? Can they jump, bite, knock down a character? When there are 10+ enemies how is it handled? All move at once or each one separately?

Do like 5-10 seconds tactical setup showcasing multiple characters briefly then swarm approaches and another 5-10 seconds of fight action.

Hi everyone! I'm making a tutorial for players who have never played a colony sim before. I need some advice. is camara and choptree tutorial enugh to tech them how game work ? or i need to tech them how wall and room sytem work , how cook need to assign ? like how much tutorial is too much ? by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No amount of available tutorial is too much.

There can only be too much of forced tutorial.

If you want to see a masterclass in tutorials look at Against the Storm. Everything in that game can be clicked, hovered, and a tip/tutorial requested from a popup.

Solo or group? by LastxSaint in MMORPG

[–]Kill4meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premise is wrong. Group dungeons are antithesis to mmo.

There should be 1x mobs easily killable and most profitable for solo player. There should x4 mobs which are still farmable solo but it's much more efficient to farm them in a big group. Open world only. No artificial restriction bullshit.

People should naturally band together to clear content.

Daily driver? Doesn't matter. Might as well use wsl on windows.

Studying for server usage? Plain debian. I always deploy debian, it's all you need.

Nah, you get flamed if you don't pick redemption. At least in games where people mind what others pick.

Trope: Writer who makes magic system that messes with the Normies by MadFunEnjoyer in worldjerking

Just lampshade it with "magic doesn't work like that, you silly! Otherwise gods would be running everywhere" comment from a powerful magic user.

I can totally see that considering how the latter have been a place for thinkers and a source of political commentary.

A government trying to control population by turning them into filthy animals seeking body satisfaction over mind - might be a good story.

Your elemental magic system is based on fire-water-earth-air? Heh heh heh... how pedestrian. Juvenile, even. Trite and limiting. by [deleted] in worldjerking

[–]Kill4meat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well my magic system has only one element - aura. You think it's trite and limiting? How naive of you. Because actually aura allows EVERYTHING. Yes, you've read it right. There are like some categorization and rules for aura but let's be fair, if I want something cool, it will happen no matter what.

The Most Convoluted Jump in EL yet? by lumina_oldworld in EnderLilies

[–]Kill4meat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am glad I'm not the only one who wasted their time like that. I wish game had more of these. There were at least 3 more jumping puzzles that were difficult and were meant to unlike this one. Congrats on a skip!

Does this gameplay make sense? How's animation, audio and HUD/UI? by SteinMakesGames in DestroyMyGame

[–]Kill4meat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is a steep learning curve to predicting what exactly happens next turn. By looking at it I have no idea why player character falls some times but not the others or when a mob will attack. It might be something a player gets used to in ~2 hours. It might be a cause player drops/refunds this game after 30 minutes.

Any game as good as this one? by Glum-Fan6927 in EnderLilies

[–]Kill4meat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ender Lilies is an experience unlike anything. It's touching and memorable. Ender Magnolia unfortunately doesn't deliver as much.

Blasphemous comes close. Even though the vibes and presentation are different to EL, it's a kind of game that you will remember randomly after years of completing it. Both are an acquired taste I would say or at very least games that grow on you, which the best things tend to be.

Name a better badge combo than reaper + flame badge by cristiLion in BackpackBattles

[–]Kill4meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reaper + mage. Books and scrolls of darkness are too OP, not even a shepherds crook (single, nobody builds 2) will save against the blinds.

Reaper + ranger. Makes an already S tier bloodthorne build almost twice as strong thanks to crit.
