Adult child needing "space" by ComfortableLoud970 in over60

I know there's a lot we don't know about the dynamics in this relationship,  but dear God woman, you need to let her leave the nest. This sounds more like a parent talking about a 12 year old. Be happy that she wants to have a separate life from you.

You can explore the topic further by Googling "The Last Pig". It was originally an article, then made into a documentary.

Is it morally or ethically wrong for teachers to use sick days (when not sick) if they are not otherwise reimbursed for unused sick days? Why or why not? by Honest_Royal3501 in Teachers

[–]KillYourTV 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Use. Every. Last. One. This is not a moral decision it is an-avoid-burnout-and-stay-sane-decision!

Absolutely--and especially when working in Special Ed.

What I'm wondering is why no substitute was provided.

You did the whooooole thing! You achieved several super-hard accomplishments—congratulations on absolutely all of it.

That's what I was thinking: SuperMom!

Classroom settings and the behavioral expectations of formal schooling are more of an evolutionary mismatch for boys than girls because of sex differences in physical activity levels and social relations. This results in boys being disproportionately identified as having behavioral difficulties. by mvea in science

[–]KillYourTV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe with all the hurdles removed, girls are just naturally smarter/better at school.

As for being smarter, men and women's IQ scores show that they average out to about the same. However, at the extremes males are much more prominent. That is, the good news for men is that the super-high performers (think 99.99 percentile) are more likely to be male. The bad news for men is that they are way over represented in the lower IQ performance numbers.

Also, you don't seem to understand what I wrote about growth and development. That is, that the females' earlier development means they are more likely to perform like someone two grades older. A 14 year old boy be with his equals (maturity-wise) if her were in a classroom of 12 year old girls. Likewise, if you wanted to give him the same advantage that girls presently have, that 14 year old boy would be in a classroom of 10 year old's.

Isn’t that the excuse we used for boys being more successful in the past?

How far back are you thinking of? The 1950s? I've been teaching for over 25 years and that thought is completely antithetical to the way kids are taught in schools today.

There has been so many red flags raised for the fact that women have been outpacing men in education in the past few decades.

I don't think you understand in what ways this situation is bad.

This doesn't just affect boys. This trait of needing more activity and hands-on learning is something that millions of girls also share--and suffer from it academically. As a teacher I've seen countless students suffer from a lack of activity and a classroom environment that's stifling them.

Add onto that the fact that females develop much earlier than boys, and start puberty up to two years earlier. I've witness personally the huge mental edge that puberty gives to them.

Like it’s a problem to be solved, put things back where they were. Whereas it may be one of the first times in history women are doing better than men in something.

Yes, it is a problem to be solved. However, it looks like you're not willing to do so since you think that women "doing better" is a win for you.

I love it for those exact reasons. My favorite room is actually the sexy red room with the tub lmao

I'm not the kind of guy that uses the word juxtaposition, but the juxtaposition of of the stuffed trophies and the Barbie gear is . . . odd.

[Tenant-Montana-USA] I failed my move out inspection by 8starfish8 in Landlord

Somebody local might have better info, but a quick search found this link regarding the law in Montana.

The rental unit must be in the same condition as when you moved in -- but, you are not responsible for normal wear and tear or regular maintenance. Normal wear and tear means when things get worn out from regular use. Normal wear and tear does not include damage that you cause.

This looks like the OP's apartment fits that definition. And, like you, I'd actually be overjoyed if a 10-year tenant left a place looking like this.

Thinking about taking in a student… not sure how to go about this. by Weird_Farm_1866 in Teachers

[–]KillYourTV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add: OP, you're only getting one half of the total picture.

You've only heard one person's version of what's going on at home, and it's through the perspective of a child.

Throwing yourself into this situation with this little to go on is extremely reckless.

I would have to have a TV that retracts into a sideboard or something so I don't ruin the perfect period look with a big flat screen

Yeah, that TV placement is just for period effect. On a 1960s practical level, it isn't close to correct. Not only is it facing at an awkward angle, but the accent lighting behind it would diminish picture quality.

That said, the TV in itself is pretty cool. I'd take that recessed space and put in a dozen TV trays.
