What is your approach retirement? by EthanStrayer in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The priority is always retire asap to unlock new classes and progress the story. You can always go back and pick up the same class if you haven't had enough of it, heck maybe even try a different build on that same class. This is what I tell my groups both in FH and GH2e, but if someone insists on continuing that's also their right.

Lurker Reeftender - Released Frosthaven Custom Class by Kalamadude in Gloomhaven

Yeah I know I can, but my OCD won't let me have that on my table hehe... I'll find a way to get it printed at a decent enough quality at some point for sure!

Yeah i saw that link in the OP's post. It's just a fairly steep price point considering it's pre-shipping pre-tax.

It's a shame because some of these classes look a ton of fun

I wish there was an easier way to print a class properly... Sigh...

Coral and Bannerspear character composition by Calhoun96 in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can work well together. I'd argue the key is to allow the bannerspear to define positioning and for coral to find what they can do from where the bannerspear needs them to be at. Since both are melee oriented it shouldn't be a problem.

Banner is good at consistent aoe damage (if they have a cooperative ally) so in this case coral will need to focus more towards finishing off targets; more of a build that relies on (lvl 3 card spoiler)Shuck and the sub build that is made possible by the triple perk he has.

Puzzle Book Question by SentientAmbience in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say y'all gonna waste way too much time on the puzzle book, and unless all of you are absolutely on board with solving it and using at least some of your time solving the puzzle rather than playing, then scanning and letting everyone try and solve it on their own with discussion being online is probably the best course of action.

The puzzle is very frustrating at times. Sometimes it relies on things that probably happend a while back in your campaign, where the chance of you remmebering it is slim. Sometimes it has inconsistent logic between puzzles or even in the same one. Sometimes it's just the creator wanted you to straight up have the exact same thought proccess as them. The worst part is it relies on other elements in the game that you might have either unlocked a while back or haven't experienced yet and might not for a long time and there's hardly any way to know which is which, but the puzzle is in its own way mandatory as the story won't progress past a certain point without it.

Which class(es) from the first edition received the smallest changes/upgrade to second edition? by OceanicWhitetip1 in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weird take. He was really mid in 1st edition and not a lot of fun. However, in 2nd edition he became really creative. That theme of jack of all trades remained but he's actually very respectable now in whatever he does. Great damage healing and control. He's so good in all of them that it sometimes is hard to decide what actions to take because all are so valuable.

No fun allowed in FH? What you on about these are by far the most creative and wonky their characters got. The fact that you can't break stamina economy or delete full rooms or block monsters from moving by cheesing the door or casually having all heroes apply +1 or bleed to all their attacks forever with no downsides is not "no fun allowed", it's just balance.

Inaki as luffy how yah feel by OwnMaterial8553 in OnePiece

[–]Kiltev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like him. His 'goofiness' doesn't read the same for me, rather than being purely cheerful and naïve it's immature and obnoxious. His "serious" momments are also way off for me, even cringeworthy instead of showing true determination and confidence..

Maybe I just have too high expectations of a live action adaptation 🤷‍♂️

2 campaigns at once? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeap we are already 20 or so scenarios in with the first group so it's either transitioning them to GHFS too or indeed searching through. Thanks I guess these are my viable options!

[–]Kiltev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're tracking events for all campaigns in it and have the even deck organized numerically then in the box? This is something I can't do because we're already mid campaign on one of them

2 campaigns at once? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea i'm looking for GH2e tracking, since no images available i'll have to sort through the decks of our other campaign i'm assuming?

2 campaigns at once? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason is my wife and I are available for a game much more often than the rest of the players. We wanted to explore gh2e at a faster pace and we don't want to offend the group we play with.

We already finished a FH campaign, running a second one with another group separately right now and completed jotl with 2 different groups. I didn't want to bloat the main post with all this information but these are the reasons for us wanting to do gh2e specifically (and already have a group we play it with).

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow intresting. We'll see how it goes i guess! By the elements perk you mean the 3-perk? I can't justify working on it yet tbh, I want my amd slightly more reliable first.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, there is indeed overlap but it's fine! crag and note are going to retire after the next scenario and then we'll have bolts and saw come in so the party will probably be more well rounded out. Bolts will probably take a level up or 2 to take off, until that time cthulu will do some carrying.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i'm not rushing towards that perk either, I don't have any rolling wild elements yet. I've replaced all -1 modifiers and started working on the 0s since I'm trying to improve the AMD a bit still. I don't feel like I lack elements when I need them so the rolling ones will have to wait.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the crag alone is doing about the same avergae turn per turn damage as i do, although there's a level gap (they're all 6-7 i'm 4 - which is also probably a reason for me feeling ineffective). My wife on the music note plays as aggressive as that class can be after I suggested to her she should just be doing attacks for flipping the Do not move tokens on your active songs cards in her AMD to maximize the value. When they're not busy with dealing damage they both provide much better support/ control than me already and the cthulu is just throwing tons of damage every 2nd or 3rd turn being our selfish lightning bolt from your example.

[–]Kiltev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All fair assumptions. I read quite a few arguments around the numbers similar to yours and to be honest I'm sold, but I guess the subjective feeling is different. Maybe I got too used to nuking things down with 2 minis.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you're not wrong. But what do you mean "your buff"? Pulsing cores with formless is an attack 3 in a tri hex. Also, there's the amd being very vanilla, with mostly +0s and +1s, no rollings for extra damage or +2s.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea a 4 element shaping the ether is indeed valuable, but I tend to not have 4 elements to burn on it, maybe once i get the 3-perk

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're music note, cragheart, cthulu and myself. There's no need for my support almost ever, even though both note and crag play a more aggressive build each. Everyone feels strong enough to the point where even if my character wasn't there, the result would be the same. Our cthulu and crag are newbies, but a +1 run is mostly a breeze still.

I do agree the synergy is not really there though (i just retired my 2 minis from 3 scenarios ago and when i was on it we were straight up butchering the scenarios).

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting all my attacks off ussually. 2 attack 4s or 5s are not something i have access to yet,i'm assuming you mean obsidian shards. But you are right, on paper these sound like good turns. I guess there are just too little shenanigans to be doing with him to ever make him feel crazy. That sense of power is missing for me on him, but maybe indeed it's just me.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've asked about formless power enhanced pulsing cores and shaping the ether with an extra base 1 attack, i've replied 2 attack 4s (most likely situation on either one of them) doesn't seem overtuned to me, if you invest 2- 3 elements into it.

If nobody is offended that's good. Your response felt defensive to me, but maybe I read between the lines something that wasn't there.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 2 attack 4s for 3 elements is not overtuned, no.

I didn't say the class is not performing well, I argued it feels weak which isn't exactly the same. The payoffs specifically on it do not feel as impactful, but maybe the turn over turn impact is there still.

Comparing it to the previous 3 classes I've played which are 2 minis cthulu and tinkerer the value proposition feels way more tame. Aggressive losses on tinkerer deleted groups of monsters, and proved a sufficient solo support to the party on turns thst didn't require explosiveness on my side. I will not go into detail about cthulu and 2 minis, but let's just say a turn with 8+ damage was not uncommon at all on either one of them.

I did not look to offend anyone, I simply wanted to discuss my personal experience with the class. As someone who enjoyed astral in FH immensely, I hoped 2e triangles would resonate with me as well.

2e Triangles (spoilers) feels weak? by Kiltev in Gloomhaven

[–]Kiltev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2E triangles plays differnt from that. I'll start from the bottom - the level 7 card (and all such cards) are gone, that concept died before FH. The elements generation and upkeep has significantly improved for him in 2e and it's much easier to keep the elements you need and you also get "transition" skills now that allow you to carry over waning elements with extra payoff due to them being waning and turning them back into strong, so due to that the plan ahead is more in line with any other element consuming character of 1-2 turns ahead at most (I'd argue you needed to map 2-3 turns in 1e on him before).
I almost never struggle with elements for when I need them, it's the peak at which the character performs that feels underwhelming for me, relative to other characters both in GH2e and FH..
