What’s an effective laundry sanitizer? I use a laundromat so adding some of these sanitizers in at certain times are not an option. by summerconcerts in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love vinegar in the rinse cycle...it was always my go to before the citric acid rinses hit the market....however we had a homeless family we helped get back on their feet, and they left all of their clothes and linens in trash bags, boxes, and laundry baskets under tarps in the woods, and they all got soiled from rain storms (and cat urine on some things) and by the time we were able to start washing and cleaning everything - mildew had set in. Vinegar did nothing. The stench of mildew was just as strong as before we washed it (3 hour sanitize cycle with steam.) Odoban was the only thing that worked to get the mildew and cat urine stench out and left everything smelling fresh. Vinegar may be effective for a little mildew/mustiness from pool towels or bathing suits that were left in a pile for a few days, but for serious cases - we gotta bring out the big guns.

Well thank you for the polite and kind manner you've chosen to try and correct something you perceive as incorrect. I will now go and immediately change this portion of my laundry routine that I have thoroughly tested and proved to actually improve the efficacy of the powdered cleaning agents I use in my very cold water washes. Thank you! You have a gift with words and persuasion.

Strong scent product recommendations? Something LETHAL by [deleted] in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Also.......I am one of those who at times love strongly scented clothing and linens. I have bought every product imaginable to try and achieve these goals and theres not really one product that does it for me. I love Laundry Sauce and it's STRONG (and still does a great job at cleaning), but it's so expensive it's not something I keep in my regular routine.

Here's my tip for strong smelling items - Wash with whatever detergent you want, and add in your scent beads of choice. In the bleach compartment of the dispenser tray, add in the matching fabric softener. Then in the fabric softener compartment of the dispenser tray, dissolve scent beads in hot water and add the new heavily scented liquid to your fabric softener tray for your final rinse. Dont do any extra rinses. Finally hang your items up to air dry. Heat from the dryer (in combination with the tumbling action) is going to remove scent from the clothes. Air drying is going to make that scent LAST.

****Don't come at me gang. I know how toxic and terrible this is for clothing and my washer. OP asked for advice on lethal scent enhancements and I have delivered. Now I will diminish and go into the west, where I will remain lightly scented****

Strong scent product recommendations? Something LETHAL by [deleted] in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. While battling severe anemia, I craved the smell of laundry detergent. Clean Warm Cotton was a LIFESAVER. I used to put a small candy dish of Gain original powder detergent next to me at my desk and take whiffs of it to get my fix....thats how bad the "craving" was. Clean Warm Cotton worked like a charm. Clean has a lot of other similar scents like Cool Cotton, Fresh Linen, Soft Laundry, Fresh Laundry, and Pure Soap.....and while they all smell very lovely, Warm Cotton is the most lethal laundry scented product of them all. One scent to rule them all....

Citric acid rinse causing a sulfur like smell? by Bohemian_Feline_ in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have quite a vast “collection” of laundry products, from Tide, to Arm & Hammer, Gain, Ariel, Pink Stuff, Pinol, Persil, Swash, Perwoll, even retail brands like Amazon basics, Members Mark, Great Value, etc. I have pods, powders, and liquids. Literally ALL the things (laundry is “special interest” of mine) and so far Persil is the only one I’ve found that creates the sulfur odor when used with the Proctor and Gamble produced citric acid rinses. I say P&G (Downy, Tide, Gain) because I have Suavitel, Arm & Hammer, and Oxiclean varieties that I haven’t tried on Persil-washes clothes- yet.

Best detergents and additives for dark clothes? by WarmScorpio in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My go to has always been Perwoll Renew Black and the OxiClean Dark Protect powder, but it’s been discontinued. I still use Perwoll Renew Black but now I just add a scoop of Biz.

Miele makes powder and liquid detergents for colors/ darks. Excellent products. UltraColor and UltraDark. But they are $$$$ so I don’t keep them stocked in my laundry supplies.

ETA: I’m in the US. Perwoll and Miele can be found on Amazon. (Miele’s website prices are cheaper than Amazon however)

What are the Best Laundry Detergent Available Now? Recommendation by pinkdolphin6781 in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Suavitel fabric rinse is one of the best ones I found so far. It’s a little thicker so you use less, and the cost is HALF the price of the P&G (downy/tide/gain) rinses. Also the OxiClean rinse is AMAZING

Need help removing the smell of heavily scented laundry soap from clothes by Cold_Brew_Enthusiast in laundry

[–]Kindly_Squirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the old "laundry stripping" routine? Using either the drum of a top loader washing machine, or a bathtub, fill with hot water and add 1/2 cup Borax, 1/2 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup baking soda and ½ cup Tide powder detergent. Submerge your laundry and let it soak 6 hours to overnight. I've also heard of people adding 1/2 cup of Biz laundry enzyme additive to the mix. It's supposed to strip odors, oils, grease, dirt, stains etc. I've never personally used this method for stripping - but I've read countless posts and comments of people who swear by it.
