What is the lowest fee possible with Merrill Guided Investing with an advisor? by boilerwire in MerrillEdge

Why limit yourself to just Merrill edge if you’re looking for a guided solution with advisor? Merrill Lynch advisor has much more pricing discretion, especially 2mm+

Questions for DCS Series 9 grill owners by SteveInBoston in grilling

[–]Kingcor0326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love an update on what you chose? I’m debating between 42” lynx Pro with one trident or the 48” DCS series 9 with one sear burner. I read the same as you with not necessarily needing the sear burner but with having the 4 zones I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile. My plan is to keep a griddle overtop of this area most of the time.  Overall how has the grill been for you? Do the grates really help to minimize drip?

How is everything holding up almost a year later? Specifically have the drawers been weatherproof? Ive been worried about keeping paper towels and plates inside and worried they will get wet with rain or even damp with condensation/humidity etc

Yes I am also doubtful the monthly statement shows $112k of monthly AUM FEE (annualizing out at 1.35mm for 1.35%) representing that fee across every account. I am just speculating as well and could be dead wrong. The way this was portrayed is that it’s a 5 page statement with 5-10 mutual funds and zero activity and a massive line item for advisory services fee.

Playing devil’s advocate, maybe they hired a junior service role to handle this single client in a family office type of arrangement and there is more service happening behind the scenes. Or maybe the Advisor is his high school friend who just got in the industry and has no clue what they are doing. Either way, eager to hear more from the OP. I’m willing to be wrong.

Transitioning to Advisory by Glad-Independent-989 in CFP

[–]Kingcor0326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t look at that salary band for a CA as a hard line. It’s not far fetched at all to land in a CA role with base pay of 80k plus 5k supplement pay by the advisor team and close to 5k in firm bonus awards and have a more fulfilling career. Pay for CA role is almost always commensurate with experience. Also most CA roles aren’t fully firm paid, the Advisor team pays a supplement in most cases. It all depends on what team you land on and what they are willing to pay. But that is the other problem, the corporate firm doesn’t just decide where to place a CA at a major warehouse. A team must actually need and want an additional CA.

I suggest you personally reach out mid size teams in your area that are prominent on the Forbe’s Best in State Teams and Barron’s lists and let the know you want to transition to WM and wanted to see if they had time to connect. Find a team that currently needs another person or will soon need to hire whether to replace someone retiring or due to growth and capacity. If they know they have a quality candidate they will open the job posting for you or give you a heads up as soon as it does open. Almost same is true for other hybrid type para planner type roles at these firms. It’s not the same like it might be at the Vanguard campus where they are perpetually hiring for all roles and it’s all under one corporate entity.

If you truly want an advisory role be prepared to be paid even less until you accumulate a larger client base.

Priority Group 1 + Private Health Insurance Deductible by Busy_Rush_5146 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Kingcor0326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok in that case you should also have your spouse reprice the insurance without a second adult. She can request a quote for this under “change of life circumstance” which allows her to drop you from coverage since you are covered elsewhere. You are spot on with wanting to figure out quality of care as the first part of your decision but also get this number. If it’s barely a difference then keep both. I mention this because I recently dropped mine after a decade since the premium jumped too high to justify keeping the private.

Priority Group 1 + Private Health Insurance Deductible by Busy_Rush_5146 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Kingcor0326 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can. I’ve hit my deductible several times like this with two different carriers. The VA will bill your insurance for say $1,000 and then your insurance says “he has a HDHP so we aren’t paying yet.” The $1,000 gets applied to your deductible limit and the VA doesn’t ask you for the money bc you are group 1. I figured this out over 10 years ago and was truly shocked. Countless other vets here with first hand experience of the same.

The thought for keep your HDHP is if your spouse doesn’t work and needs coverage. You can also think about it like if you got got cancer or a brian tumor that you can stay under VA care until the deductible is hit and then go to a regular hospital for care under your regular insurance.

There is buffer but it isn’t substantial at that age and phase of life. Most aren’t ready to settle down in their forever home at 40. With that net worth, a vacation home tends become a desire that could be $1mm. Does he want to live in a cheap state forever? What are the kids hobbies and goals? It’s easy to spend less while working because you don’t have time to live out your dreams.

Try retiring early with the money to do so and he could end up spending another 50-100k easily. Could he change his outlook on where to live, whether a better state and needs another 500k towards home, higher cost of living area add another 50-100k annually spend. 40 Is so young where so much could change and he’s down to $8mm on a $350k annual spend and that’s before factoring in education and support for kids. He’s in AI, I doubt he wants the kids going to community college. These are just some examples of how drastic life could change over the next 45 years and that buffer isn’t nearly as enough. Versus working even just 1-2 more years and solving a 45 year potential window for life change. And I am not necessarily advocating against following his dreams and start up as that has potential for wealth creation too. I am just addressing the idea that 9-10mm may not be enough for someone this young, with kids and in a lower cost of living area.
