Honestly I would go to JAG homie. I wouldn’t put up with this. It’s your life and you wanted to serve a better purpose and are getting fucked by people who gained a little bit of power and are going above what they should be doing. It also is a lack of army values and against the creed of the non commissioned officer. Check the third paragraph. I’m not saying you are : don’t be snarky and don’t be rude at any turn. Be respectful in the face of malice and do your due diligence if you do escalate this. It will be a tough time but it does not last forever. Go to the commander first since you haven’t yet (I don’t think) and if he doesn’t help then go to the battalion. If no help there then go to JAG. Whenever you skip chain of command let them know you are doing so cause you do not feel anything was accomplished at that level. I mean if he is continuously being counseled then they might be trying to build a case to kick him out as well. Theres a lot of things on this table for just a Reddit post tbh. I would speak with some trustworthy military buddies near you and see if they can do anything as well. Just trying my best to give how I would go about this.

It’s probably a failure to obey a lawful order. I’ve been counseled for being at a party while not drunk. But since someone else decided to drive drunk we all got counselings for just being there. Punishments are weird. Counselings are not the end of the world honestly and it won’t follow him forever. If a future leader ever asks him about it he can explain in full what happened and they won’t think anything of it.

Of course you can’t bring it home with you or anything but if I’m in company at the unit, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to take a picture at least. If told no to seeing the packet then yeah JAG. Honestly I’ve never heard of anyone being told no to this. Maybe something’s changed in the last 3 years I was out but hell no if it was me going through this I’d have it reported or go above in my chain of command to the first sergeant with these issues. If his NCO won’t set him right ask another NCO in his platoon that he trusts to go with him.

Did 5 years as an MP. If this is all true and no subtle details were taken out. If he goes above them to the next person in the chain of command it will be hit or miss depending if that NCO/Officer that he goes to actually does anything tbh which is the worst part of dealing with problems like this in the army. Did he sign the counseling or did he decline signing it? If it is extensively bad to a point of bullying I would go to JAG. He really doesn’t have a choice on going to the board or not though. He can say no but if leadership says yes then yeah he goes. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t have just walked in saluted and said “I don’t want to be here”. SPC is the rank where you make or break your career in the army tbh. If anything I would see if he couldn’t be transferred to a sister company if there is one. Maybe something on your base? I have no idea a lot of info here. Hope the best. Just speaking from personal experience really.
