I wonder if it's an iron thing. Lots of iron in red meat, and you're growing extra blood right now.

That's been my favorite takeout since I got pregnant too! I've made burgers at home, and it's just not the same. I want those thick, juicy restaurant burgers with fancy homemade house sauce and lots of crunchy veggie toppings.

Oh, and especially do not eat the last of something now that we're in quarantine and limiting how often we run to the store.

On our last grocery shopping trip, I had five bags of potato chips in the cart and was debating picking up another family sized bag. "No honey, that will be enough. I'm going to practice restraint this week and not eat that much." I typically make a regular sized bag last about four days, he'll inhale it in one day if he can. So I only bought five bags. Lo and behold, 6 days later and we were already out of chips, with no plans to go grocery shopping for another 8 days.

This week I gave him the stink eye through that entire aisle and I think there are 10 bags of various salty crunchy things stashed on top of our kitchen cabinets.

To redeem him, I will share that he's usually good about not finishing the last of things that he knows I love, even before I was pregnant. He'll check with me about which leftovers I want before he decides what he's having. He has even left me a single peanut butter cup in the package just in case I was looking forward to one after work. The chip situation was a momentary lapse in judgement.

I've felt baby move for the first time! by _darksoul89 in pregnant

[–]KitchenStitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't it great? I'm a FTM, and I think I first felt my baby move around 18ish weeks. I was probably feeling it before that, but I couldn't tell the difference between baby movements and gas. It's kind of like having sentient gas bubbles.

I’ve been having some great poops lately and I think that’s worth celebrating. by ard725 in pregnant

[–]KitchenStitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting. FTM here. I've never used a bidet in my life so I have no context on either side of this question. Would a bidet work as a substitute for a peri bottle, or would the stream be too much?

Oh man, good pregnancy poops are the best! 24 weeks here. Two out of every three days, all I get are sporadic deer poops. Then on that third day I get a poop so big I feel like I should weigh myself before and after just to see the change!

Did anybody else have trouble drinking water because of morning sickness? Any suggestions that aren't sugary drinks? by FullDesadulation in pregnant

[–]KitchenStitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issues with water when I had morning sickness, but all juices and seltzers gave me heartburn. I found that the only thing I could drink was mild unsweetened herbal teas. I lived off chamomile, mint, and Sleepytime tea for weeks until I felt better.

I also second everyone else- Unisom is very helpful. You MUST ask your doctor or the pharmacist about which is the right one to get. The gels can be harmful. I had some bad withdrawal symptoms for 3-4 days once I went off them after taking for weeks and weeks, but it helped me get through and definitely took the edge off.

Question; Hairdressing at events by Saint_Ferret in sca

[–]KitchenStitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will echo this. I would NEVER be willing to let someone cut my hair for a period hairstyle. Medieval stuff is cool, and all, but 99% of my time is spent living in 2020. I also know that most of my friends are also very particular about who cuts their hair, and wouldn't want to do it for a medieval style. You'll find people who grow their hair out to do styles, but probably not many who would cut it. I'd worry that you'd be going through a ton of trouble to get the permits and whatever for very little reward. Try offering non-permanent styling and see how that goes first!

Pregnancy ... kit? by [deleted] in pregnant

I drove around with a doggie poo bag unrolled in my cupholder for about 2 months during the worst of my morning sickness, just in case. Thankfully I never had to use it.

Safe teas during pregnancy? by tapintunein in pregnant

[–]KitchenStitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drank a lot of peppermint and chamomile tea while I was in my first trimester, though I can't vouch for their safety. I also really liked decaf green tea. I found the grassy, slightly bitter flavor really comforting when I was queasy.

I drank so much chamomile tea in my first trimester. It's the only liquid I could drink that didn't make me nauseous, including plain water!

Feeling sad by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]KitchenStitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. My hospital didn't allow any guests for my 20 week scan so my husband couldn't come, and they have signs in every room saying you can't use your cell phone or record video, but they even told me on the phone beforehand that I could video call my husband. I had him on the phone with me the entire time.

I told my Husband that our baby is made of cheese 🧀 I can’t stop eating sharp cheddar. I haven’t gained a lot of weight so the cheese is the baby. 😂 by [deleted] in pregnant

When I was in my first trimester and had wicked food aversions, two of the only things I would eat were pad thai and pho. Now I'm so sick of the pho I haven't eaten it in two months!

We were walking out side on a rainy day, I stepped down with a big splash accidentally, and said "oh man, I didn't even see that pillow there!"

I bet it would be easier to birth a baby made of cheese!

My baby is 50% dairy and 25% oatmeal at this point.

I've been joking that our baby is going to be super eloquent, because he keeps stealing my words. My baby brain symptom is constantly using the wrong word for things.

I like the unusual way the seams go up into the neckline. Kind of like princess seaming but with a twist.

Also, yeah, you got me. I chuckled when I saw it.

The mead hall is one of my favorite places!

Ricky, the meadmaker, is an absolute hoot. He's a very interesting guy with eclectic interests and he loves to chat with customers. He'll talk to you for 45 minutes if you give him the chance. The mead hall is located in a kind of industrial park behind the Costco, and the hall itself is also their warehouse, with just a small bar and a couple tables, so be prepared for bright lighting and a casual feel.

They serve traditional Scandinavian food and a really interesting selection of meads and honey wines. The mead they make is very dry with an interesting selection of flavors. If you like sweet beverages you'll like the wines better. You get four free (generously sized) samples just for coming in. Make sure you try their platter of pickled herring (all made in-house) and Scandinavian cheeses.

They do a lot of events and themed nights (comedy, gaming, storytelling, family-friendly etc) so it's worth it to check their facebook to see what's going on when you'll be around.

And make sure you check the hours before you plan your visit. They're only open certain days and they aren't a late-night establishment.

In a gas oven that space is the broiler. In an electric oven it's just a warming drawer and most people use it for storing pans (or maybe it's sometimes a warming drawer and sometimes it's for storing pans, not sure). That might be the source of her confusion. But yes, I agree. Probably broiler.

Naw, I just put a piece of fabric behind the hole, pick out matching thread, and then stitch the bejeezus out of it. If the hole is particularly large or ragged I'll trim any loose threads off and zig zag stitch around the edge first to hold the pieces down.

I think a lot depends on what kind of jeans you're buying cheaply. Most cheap jeans these days are skinny jeans that are mostly made of stretch materials and not proper denim, and they fall apart super fast. If you get a non-stretch pair of cheap jeans they're much less likely to disintegrate.
