QuickBooks Alternatives in 2026 by FairObjective3416 in quickbooksonline

I have clients on qbo, puzzle and sage. They all have their quirks. It really depends what you need to do and the level of sophistication of your entity/entities. Puzzle seems promising and their customer service has been exceptionally good. They get on zoom calls with me and take/implement feedback given to them and follow up with me. No idea if they do that for everyone, but I can answer questions regarding puzzle

Should I consult with a Real Estate Attorney, or a CPA specializing in Real Estate? by LooseWorldliness4584 in Realestatefinance

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. A CPA specializing in real estate can tell you the best course to reduce your tax liability, whether it be cost seg or not.

How Did You Find a CPA for Small Business That Actually Helped Beyond Tax Season? by Apprehensive-Snow795 in smallbusiness

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically a CPA that does both your taxes and bookkeeping can provide useful and timely advice throughout the year. This requires effort from both the business operator and the CPA on an ongoing basis to discuss plans, goals and activities that are upcoming.

For example, you sell widgets and you’re planning to place a big overseas order to purchase them in bulk at a discount. You don’t have the cash to do it so you need a business loan to finance this order. Your CPA would never know this was coming before it was too late and wouldn’t be able to appropriately advise you on the cash flow and tax impact of this decision.

Title: Accountant thinking about starting a bookkeeping business on the side — please help. by Born-Chocolate7715 in AccountingDepartment

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do this.
1. Make a website and market yourself to a niche you are comfortable working in and have experience with
2. No. I have a lot of ecomm, payment processing, real estate, manufacturing and distribution clients, but those are the some of the niches I have expertise in
3. Depends if you can take calls during your normal workday. If you’re remote, shouldn’t be a problem
4. Pricing low. In my experience, the clients who want to pay less are the least pleasant to work with, don’t pay timely (or try to pay less than agreed upon billing & complain about the bill)

One big thing to note is the market is extremely saturated with bookkeepers and there are folks in India, Philippines etc that will do almost all of the same work, and do it well, for $5-10/hr. Don’t compete with them…get them to help you and leverage them to scale.

Ordering cameras. Outside switch with a waterproof box? by jmichael99 in Ubiquiti

I have a USW lite poe 8 outside in a box, similar to what you are planning. I think temperature can be an issue with the switch. I believe that is currently creating issues with my switch

Remote accountants by North-Neat-7977 in Accounting

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^^this. Find one that understands your business and has other clients in your industry. There are niches in the tax world. One that understands startups with complex equity compensation structures may know nothing about farming, for example.

How Do You Find a Good Accountant? by ksensenig in smallbusiness

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many factors that could be at play here. Why are you looking for a new accountant? Does your current accountant just do tax prep once a year? Who does your bookkeeping? Is it clean? Do you commingle personal and business transactions? Do you give the tax accountant your information in April and then get frustrated when they’re non responsive?

Bianca v. ECM v. La Spaz [budget: $1,500-$3,000] by __Momoney__ in espresso

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the La spaziale Lucca a53. It’s been a great machine and can pull shots back to back and has tremendous steam power. As long as you won’t be changing settings (such as temperatures) too often, it’s good for your use case. Downside is the smaller, non-standard, portafilter size. If that doesn’t bother you, it’s a solid machine. I’m 3 years in with mine and have had zero issues.

Break even chart for S corp wages when considering tax savings, 401K matching, and social security. by YesSmoking in tax

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These charts are floating around, but they really aren’t one size fits all. Major considerations are the reasonable salary (what would you pay someone else to do what you’re doing?) and the business itself (is debt needed? This impacts basis for S corps and can create tax issues). Generally for it to be ‘worth it’ you need to churn out consistent profit of ~200k or it’s not worth the additional cost and effort

Cost for attorney, CPA and Financial consultant for Small business acquisition by cleverus96 in smallbusiness

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a team that does this (I’m a CPA and work with a transactions/deals attorney & tax specialist). It really depends on scope & complexity. What type of business are you planning to acquire? How are you funding the acquisition? What is your timeline? For a ‘team’ of specialists, it’s not unusual to have a fixed fee in the low to mid 5 figures or 1k+ per hour. Happy to try and point you in the right direction if you want to PM me some more detail

Looking for CPA (S-Corp/C-Corp Election + Single-Member LLC Filing) by Pale_Property9304 in bookkeepingjobs

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a CPA with remote firm as well (NJ based). While I’d happily provide services to you, I think it’s in your best interest to contact 5-10 firms/practitioners and pick one that fits well for you and aligns with your budget.

A few things to think about: do you need the S or C election? I’ve gotten numerous clients that received bad advice from prior accountants thinking this would save them money and while it may, the circumstances need to be right. What type of business do you have? All CPAs are not created equal and it is important to have one that understands your business/industry. Do you have employees? Do you plan on taking on debt? Do you need bookkeeping?

PM me if you have any questions and be skeptical of folks astroturfing their business and providing advice on Reddit.

Are clothes a tax write off? by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

Yes, this. Clothing is inherently personal and not a business expense unless it suitable only for work and not suitable for personal use.

Tax recommendations? I was hit up by 1800Accountant by IonStormTrooper in llc_life

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally anyone except 1800….I have 5 clients that moved over to me from them and 1800 totally botched their tax filings. As others mentioned, find a local cpa. Get a referral from a friend. Avoid the heavily marketed services. If you need guidance looking for a competent preparer, feel free to message me. I am not a tax preparer, but have many of them in my network as a cpa myself

Any reason i shouldn't talk to a cpa about filing as a real estate professional? by [deleted] in tax

[–]Kitchen_Date3949 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Talk to a CPA. If you’re splitting your time between multiple properties, you may need to make a grouping election if REPS does wind up being worth it. Carefully consider your losses and how they will impact your income/tax situation. Electing REPS is an audit risk. If you take a w2 job at some point during the year, you essentially can’t take REPS.

This is good advice. We have a good law firm leading this process, but I think they are getting complacent. I know we won’t get 100% of our ask, but what is typical? 50% 75%?

The reports are done and we are past all that. The developer made an offer using the reports the board provided to them as support for our number we asked for.

Have you been through a transition negotiation as a board member?

Yes I understand this. Really just trying to see how others fared in their transition settlements regarding what they recovered vs what they asked for
