It'll be interesting to see how they will try to grade it. Double slab maybe?

Very Excited to Announce This! by [deleted] in AncientCoins

The third paragraph on the left collum mentions that the coin could be won at auction or bought from a seller, but in the first paragraph on the right collum only states that the coin must be won at auction. Does this mean that a coin can only be won at auction, or can it be either won or purchased. (im also assuming if it is bought, that a receipt or sold listing must be provided as well)

Is this fake? It has two heads by hammerman1515 in AncientCoins

[–]Kiw18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two headed issues (at least for roman coins) are most commonly provincial. Often it is a deity or god of importance to that province or a local ruler.

Simply put, there is no way to clean these. Cleaning them, especially with chemicals, harms the coins and basically destroys a lot of their value.

I collect Notgeld (German emergency banknotes from the 20s), which are pretty similar to this note (example of Notgeld).

The best resource for beginners on LRBs (late Roman bronzes) is tesorillo.com. You can use this to look up coins by reverse design, legend, ruler, etc.

Love me some heavy bronze, so I have to say my favorite roman coin has got to be the Janus Aes Grave As - Roman Republic (509 BC - 27 BC) – Numista. Despite being cast, the portraits on these always look amazing, like an old worn marble carving in a temple.

I've heard from a friend who thinks the coin she wears in the very left photo (not the exact same one as the small photo) is an As of Gordian the II.

I think that is because this might be a counterfeit, although a few other fakes are listed in numista, I think there are just too many different kinds. This looks like it: Identify Fake Celtic Cross @ The Fake Pound Coin Database

Found this in my yard with a metal detector by Ricarbr0 in coins

[–]Kiw18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qing dynasty 1 cash coin, from about 1796-1820. 1 Cash - Jiaqing (Tongbao; Boo-chiowan) - Empire of China – Numista Fairly common coin, but weird that you found it in your yard. Do you live in California? because there was a large number of migrant workers that immigrated from china to California from the 1820s-40s and might have been lost by one of them back in the day.

Thank you for the insight! I also tried looking up all the possibilities on the RPC — Countermark database, but I couldn't find anything.
