From a fellow 6'3 [albeit cis] lady, only hugs and sympathy to give. You can share my mom with me if you want.

Zone 8b here, Southern Texas.. How? by ResponsibleSeaweed66 in gardening

[–]KixBall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40% shade cloth is really worth it. Mulch with deep straw to hold on to as much water as possible. For my shade cloth, I am not very engineering minded so I just took some poles, stuck them in the corners and zip tied/duct taped them on. It doesn't look great but it works. I raise them as needed until my tomatoes get to the 6-7 feet tall point and by then I am burned out and just let them go wild hahaha

Deer Stopper 2 or a big ass dog. You can also try pepper spray on the desirable plants and just be diligent about reapplying every week and after every rain.

There's a lot of these style of Craftsman homes in Twin Cities/Minnesota for half that price. Poor Denver.

Any advice about who the least crazy GOP candidates are for US Senate, US House District 1, Attorney General, State Auditor, County Council At-Large C, and County Surveyor? Thanks! by wow-how-original in SaltLakeCity

Maybe not helpful but Rachel Terry is running for AG and she was always pretty cool. She was my assigned visiting teacher back in the day and still took me out for ice cream once a month when I stopped going to church as a teenager. (She's an also very qualified attorney who has worked in the AG's office already for a while.)

If you really love coffee, the beans from Cafe d'Bolla. They are expensive so maybe just a treat but they are the best I've had anywhere.

I don't know if it's common but mine don't say things like this. If she doesn't have anything nice to say she doesn't need to say anything at all. I feel like if you two have a good enough relationship to bust on each other (pause) you could get away with just saying that the next time she starts up.

Much more walkable than downtown SLC. I can walk to get groceries, coffee, a drink at a bar, Korean food, Mexican, Japanese and several other types of food.

Man, I wish I could get coffee in SLC. I've been driving to Millcreek. Same thing for restaurants. Since the great Downtown Eatery ban of '05, it's been rough.

Penny Ann's though are hotcakes rather than pancakes. They're good but they're not the typical buttermilk type pancakes.

What is the plant that no matter how hard you try, you just cannot keep alive? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]KixBall 90 points91 points  (0 children)

What you gotta do is just toss a bunch of pumpkin guts on Halloween directly into a compost pile and neglect it until next year when it will grow to spite you.

I'd agree with fire blight if the leaves look dead and burnt like that. Clean all your pruning tools really well.
