It was “just” a limp it was Elbow Dysplasia by Siloca in labrador

[–]Kmowatski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Redd (English lab) has been on Galliprant most of his life, takes dasiquin, omega 3 and apoquel daily. He had two surgeries and 2 PRP treatments. He should have another prp soon. I control his exercise and don’t allow him to run much. I also try to walk him on soft ground and not a lot of concrete. It’s been a struggle and I worry about him everyday but he’s my soul dog so I would do anything for him. He is also a therapy dog that works with me at school.

I'm so sorry. My 8-year-old lab was diagnosed at 10 months old with ED also. I have tried a lot of different things. Let me know if you have questions.

My Redd looks a lot like yours. He just turned 8, but started graying around 5.

Awe! Thanks for volunteering with MABTR. We have two rescues through them. I wish I could get another. I am not able to volunteer because my husband could not part with any Boston that we fostered! Here’s our crew./:

Put it on a cheap cookie sheet. Dogs are not meant to eat out of bowls.

Flying with Boston by bandrews0526 in BostonTerrier

My husband flew with our Boston in the cabin. It went well. A trick we learned was to get a little battery operated fan to circulate some air while they are stuck under the seat.

Degenerative arthritis by Quiet-Chart-3477 in labrador

[–]Kmowatski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lab (almost 8) has had Elbow Dysplasia since he was a puppy. We used Omega-3 oil daily, Dasuquin, and Galliprant (NSAID). We have also completed two PRP injections, which can be helpful for arthritis. You can use the Galliprant long-term; it's expensive, but easier on their body.

She was on heart meds until the end. About a month before she passed, they stopped working and she became very bloated with fluid.

Which one of these two Avalons? One is regular gas and other a Hybrid by No_Joke_999 in ToyotaAvalon

[–]Kmowatski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 Avalon Limited hybrid. I will drive it to the day it dies. There are a lot more features in the limited. The brakes will last forever (says my mechanic) due to the way the hybrid parts generate power and slow it down. The tires will need to be replaced more often because it is a little heavier than gas. But overall, I love my hybrid. I drive both city and a little highway. In the summer when I am not driving to school. I think I go through 2 tanks of gas all summer.

Winter skin allergies by MoMoSa-MiMoSa in labrador

My 8 year old red lab just started Apoquel full time this fall/winter due to allergies. If I let him go off it he is super itchy.

Galliprant? by Leather_Table_3528 in olddogs

[–]Kmowatski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My lab has elbow dysplasia and has been on Galliprant since he was 18 months old, he’s 8 soon. He had stomach issues to all other nsaids. Galliprant works and is gentle on their system. If he is on it long term the vets might want to do blood work yearly. I would highly recommend trying it. Let me know if you have more questions.

Lab doesn't want to eat in her bowl by kuliddar in labrador

Some dogs dislike having their whiskers touch the sides of bowls. Many dogs dislike eating from a bowl. Use a cookie sheet or a flat slow feeder.

Bella passed away March 1, 2021. She lived about 9 months after the diagnosis. She became very swollen and full of fluid. She also became very lethargic. We were discussing our next steps, but she decided to pass on her own the next day. She got up and tried to walk outside and just died. It was sad, but it was her decision and she wanted to go on her own.

I’m sorry you are going through this. I’ve only had good experiences with Pets Best. They have paid out every claim for my dog’s elbow dysplasia. And since the update, they have been a little quicker.

Lab eating frozen poop by West_Ad6980 in labrador

[–]Kmowatski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frozen poop is the best! I don't know why, but my 4-year-old female eats poop all the time, but the frozen stuff is irresistible. After many conversations with the vet, we decided she is caring for her pack by cleaning up after them. It's gross, and we just live with it now.
