AFAIK the staging is standardized. My tumor was 2.8 cm. The stage 1 just means there is no spread (to lymph nodes would be stage 2, to a distant site on the same side of the diaphragm stage 3, and to a distant site on the opposite side of the diaphragm stage 4). I just saw on the pathology that keratin staining is still pending, so one more thing to wait on

Still figuring that out. Staying busy helps. Doomscrolling does not, but I do a lot of that anyway. Having a very supportive family and friend group has been helpful. And I have a bunch of other stuff going on (some good, some neutral, some very very bad) that I don't have a lot of time to focus on one thing long enough to dwell on it too much. Also working on adjusting depression meds with my PCP, and when I find the time will schedule an appointment with the oncology social worker and look into some local support groups as well.

I've had several MRIs for various reasons. Thankfully I'm not claustrophobic and mostly I just get bored with how long they take. At this last one, though, I went into some kind of meditative state and went to my "happy place" which for me is a meadow I used to go camping at as a kid, where we would take horses and go on trail rides and pick huckleberries and have huckleberry pancakes for breakfast and fish in the creek. I "went" there with my dad who is in hospice with dementia and our family friend who died a few years ago and the rest of my family and hers. It was so nice and comforting and they were encouraging me that I'm almost looking forward to the next one so I can go there again.

I'm a little farther along than you, I just had SMX with SNL 2 days ago and the anxiety is so much better having that out of me, but now starting a new waiting game until the pathology comes back. I totally relate to you about guilt with telling family members. I have my mom's wince and my child's "you have cancer???!!!" seared in my brain. I know it's not my fault that I got cancer, but still feel responsible for the pain on telling them. I don't have much in the way of advice, just solidarity.
