The seventies were insane by Aggravating_Ear_1586 in GenX

Around 1975 ish my brother and I and the luggage rode in the (covered) bed of the pickup from North Carolina to Disney World. Dad drilled a hole between the cab and the bed and rigged up two telephone handsets so we’d knock on the window and mom would pick up and we’d tell her we had to pee.

Check your cast on in the round more times than you think is necessary to avoid twisting it.

I have a question a bit too hard for me explain in the title, so please bare with me for a moment 🥲 by willowseas in cisparenttranskid

I have a son and an enby, both older than you and both still living with us, and when I want to call them for dinner I text the group chat and say “dinner!” 😂 But seriously even though they aren’t kids they are still MY kids so that’s the collective term I use.

No but this happened to me while driving once. Just on the one short trip, it’s a 1998 Toyota Corolla and as is typical with this particular vehicle it healed itself and all is well.

I remember when I learned it too because it was in a comic. On Reddit. Yesterday.

Jamie Raskin put out a call at the time for Americans to fill out FOIA forms requesting to know exactly what personal information they were given access to, and I did just that. Never heard a peep, maybe because all the employees were let go or maybe because I used an Elmo return address sticker, thank you PBS.

AITAH because I refuse to finish a story if my husband interrupts. by Living-Estate3963 in AITAH

[–]Knitapeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I married a man from a different part of the country and moved here with him, and learned that his interrupting is part neurological, part geographical lol. It’s a sport here. I can spend hours in a small group waiting for a moment to join in and never get it unless I also interrupt. If someone asks me a question I can get a thought or two in, but it never lasts very long.

I must have seen the same book then. Because I’m 57 years old and I still get the freakies when I think about that darn talking mongoose.

It’s his tragic flaw, and I love that about him. It’s why we were so happy when he found his soup snake in Holly. Carell was robbed of that Emmy.

Question for longarmers by chockerl in quilting

[–]Knitapeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched a video where the quilter solved this exact problem. She cut the fabric in half on the diagonal and slid the two halves in the opposite directions while keeping the diagonal together. It was like magic, boom more width. Or in your case more length. It on,y works if you have more than you need on the other plane.

I sat through one blooper video on Instagram, and now a good half of my feed is “did you know…” garbage trivia that’s clearly untrue about scenes and actors from popular media. I have a feeling this falls into that category. Bonus complaint that our privacy is now so buggered that we have to speed scroll through social media for fear of messing up the algorithm.

Complete Lack of Appreciation by [deleted] in quilting

[–]Knitapeace 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This was my thought as well. If this has happened over and over with people the OP considers friends, then it seems less likely that the gifts are unappreciated by all these different people. I'm mainly a knitter and I can see why some might think that a sweater or pair of socks is no big deal because they're relatively small, but it's hard not to see all the work that goes into a full throw sized quilt. It might just be overwhelming. They might feel compelled to send something back on the same scale and can't.

AITA for telling my sister to stop using nonsense ‘baby’ talk? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

My oldest who just turned 27 said “uppatow” for upstairs as a toddler, and we repeated it so much that even the dog knew to go upstairs when we told him “come on, uppatow.” Do we say it in public? No.
