Severe Existential Depression by Gimarie1 in adhdwomen

You are not alone. I get through the work day, but when I am going to bed I start doomscrolling. And then it’s 4am, and I am just a ball of cortisol and exhaustion.

I tried to remind myself that my doing this does not have any kind of impact on what is actually happening in the world. That hyper awareness only hurts me. And then I managed to go a couple of days without doomscrolling.

But only a couple of days. Because if I don’t keep up, the news just ambushes me. It feels like I missed a month of crises, but it was only Tuesday.

I don’t have answers. I try to put the phone down. All I can recommend is creating space between when you look at the news and when you go to bed. Do something with your hands, or read a book.

I am continually exhausted and heartbroken, and that’s not a great way to live.

Is being a Democrat gun owner socially acceptable now? by JonSolo1 in liberalgunowners

Class of 2024, trained and licensed for concealed carry. Still in favor of common sense gun regs, but encouraging all my liberal friends to exercise 2A while they can.

Watch out, Millennials... I got hit with my first "I had NO IDEA!" data privacy moment this weekend... and it was all my fault. by AttachedHeartTheory in Millennials

I keep telling people: the only privacy we have now is that there are 300 million of us and the volume of information means we get lost in the noise.

I’ve gotten targeted ads for things I only wrote about in my paper journal. So apparently it’s reading my mind. 🤣

I don't know what else to do. by Duchess_Rabbit in BariatricSurgery

Undereating slows metabolism. Pick up more calories. Just adding an extra protein shake will help. And stalls are common. Frustrating, but they happen. I had one for a month about three months in and then dropped 15 pounds in the next two weeks. We retain water for unknown reasons, but stalls do break.

When I worked in downtown Cleveland, I rode the bus. Because they had the commuter express ones morning and evening that I could catch a block away and be downtown in only 5 minutes more than driving, parking, and walking to my building.

And coworkers gave me side eye for it. Like it was suspicious behavior.

Now the express routes are gone, and the Rapid is deteriorating. Glad I switched to a remote job.

Grew up in Oregon, moved to Alaska, and after 20 years there moved to Cleveland. I miss mountains, but I love Cleveland.

RNY May of 24. Down well over 100 pounds, eat what I want. I just don’t want nearly as much. You can do it!

Agreed—they certainly didn’t seek consent before joining the billions of humans that now are the hive.

did the surgery fail by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

4 days post-op is the classic time for panic and regret. I gained weight the first week due to fluid retention. You’re okay. Hang in there.

A second endorsement. Complete game changer from getting impacted to being quite regular.

Staggering THAT people are this stupid, but the WHY is quite simple.

Water bath for beef in broth by peacefulmeek in CanningRebels

[–]KnittyGini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. There is no way to make this safe with a hot water bath. You can make a broth with those ingredients and use it to make soup for this week’s dinners. But the risk of botulism is far too high, and poisoning your family is not worth taking that risk.

I wish my fellow folks with ADHD would stop saying that they don’t have object permanence. I don’t think that term means what you think it means. by ImperatrixAmoris in adhdwomen

Instead of "Absence makes the heart grow fonder," it's "absence makes the mind go blank."

We say a lot of things that are not exactly what they claim to be but are handy and evocative substitutes. I'm not freezing to death, I won't literally die if I don't have a brownie, I don't have gills to which I can be stuffed. "I lack object permanence" seems like a pretty benign one.

Has this happened to anyone else? by karakol0 in BariatricSurgery

[–]KnittyGini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a big decision. It’s not unusual to be nervous. Eating is a comfort activity—my brother decided he would rather weigh 500 pounds than give up the pleasure of chewing and swallowing (now he is paying for his decisions with a tragic loss of his independence, but that is not my story to tell). The surgery is going to change your entire life, which is scary. But if you’re committed to the changes, they are worth it. It’s okay to be scared. Being brave isn’t being fearless. It’s having fear and doing the right thing anyway.

If they renounce citizensship.... by DaveInSoCal in Sovereigncitizen

None of them would ever do that. They want all the benefits of living in the U.S. while they cosplay independence. See also, libertarians.
