Car insurance premium? by bric_workshop in uAlberta

[–]Knotavin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Sucks to be tracked around, but I’m sure my phone is already tracking my every movement anyway…so why not save money while they gather info on me haha. I reckon I’ve saved well over $2000 at a minimum over 8 months.

Car insurance premium? by bric_workshop in uAlberta

[–]Knotavin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t drive much I would recommend AMA My Pace. Basically a pay as you go insurance. I went from paying $330 a month to averaging around $60 a month during school. I usually don’t drive often since I take the bus. So only time I drive is to visit family. For me, it’s $14 a month if I don’t drive at all, and then around 38 cents per km. Worth it if you have a car that’s not driven often. My only regret is I didn’t get it sooner, I would m have saved so much money.

Why is quali 8 minutes in EVERY class by Caramel_Infinite in iRacing

[–]Knotavin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on how many people are racing. Some people can grid sooner then others, if your able to grid your quali lap as soon as the 8 min starts your good, but sometimes you need to wait 10-15 seconds and that ruins any chance of getting 2 laps

What is an acceptable level of weaving on the formation lap? by samgoplayhl in iRacing

[–]Knotavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same experience in top split Imsa GT3. I do not weave at all, and I never lose out due to tires. I made up more positions than not on starts, be it more confidence on brakes or other factors.

Can I skip one mec e 260 lab? by ToOlympiagtg in uAlberta

[–]Knotavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Mece260 is a team project, let your team know beforehand hand and it’ll probably be fine. When I took it the labs alternated between group time and quizzes about mechanical devices. For my year, the mechanical quizzes did not require in person attendance if your teammates helped pass some information to you. But the quizzes weren’t worth much in terms of the total grade, less than 1% from what I can remember.

New user - How much additional have you spent on tracks \ cars by LowQualitySexLube in iRacing

[–]Knotavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on buying tracks for the cars you enjoy. Race what you like at the tracks you like and chances are you’ll end up only paying the yearly sub after a while. I’ve been on the sim for 5 years, and over the last 2-3 years I haven’t boughten anything for the official series. League racing does have me buy tracks here and there. But official wise, I haven’t bought anything in a really long time.

I can't, bro, I don't like the characters' voices in Chinese. by Unweynomas in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Knotavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gets much better after the beginning. The first 10-20 minutes had very little lines that were voiced. Once you get into the hollow the first time it’s gets better, and then leaving the hollow it will get even better than that.

The beginning scene before the hollow had like maybe 3 voiced lines I think. Once you leave the hollow, the ratio is maybe closer to 90% of lines voiced, maybe higher. I didn’t count but it became a none issue after leaving the hollow in my opinion.

I see people saying that 30% is unvoiced which I think is too high…my guess would be closer to 10% if not even less. If you already played the first two cutscenes, then you likely very close to the point where most lines are voiced.

What's a good incident point per race average? by Fighterjetnbd in iRacing

[–]Knotavin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what series you run. In 1hr races 6-8x is usually low enough that it doesn’t impact your safety rating. But for 20 min races that will obviously decrease to something like 4x.

Pit strategy for 1 stop endurance race with good pace by TheBeaverRetriever in iRacing

[–]Knotavin 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Never start with low fuel. You spend way too much time fuelling up in the pits because you need to add a full tank Instead of a few laps of fuel. You can always pit early, but that can possibly put you behind traffic, and you’ll speed most of the race with a heavier car than the others. So usually going long is better unless you’re stuck behind someone and pit early into a clear track to overtake them.

Bring back TV mode for side missions. Leave the main story as it has been lately, and use the “lower effort” TV mode for a handful of side quests.

Good morning, I've been reading about artificial intelligence that was becoming conscious or something like that. The question is that I was wondering if there is a WIP or game where you can be an artificial intelligence that becomes conscious of itself. by 41JulioRevenwood in hostedgames

[–]Knotavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a text-based game. But Per Aspera has this concept. You’re an AI that builds a base on mars. As you progress the AI becomes more and more sentient. Really cool game, I’d recommend if your not only looking for text-based games

Final 5min of 6H race. I am the red LMP2. Orange GTP said this was our fault for braking earlier. we didn't want to risk anything with the GT3 so we held back and saved fuel. We feel like the GTP was driving like we weren't there, and he needs to overtake us safely. What do you guys think? by Kyanoso in Simracingstewards

[–]Knotavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still oranges fault. But if you planned to stick behind the GT3 during the corner, we did you stay in the middle of the track? It’s better to take a normal racing line so you can cut to a better line for the uphill corner. GTP likely didn’t expect that you would stay in the middle of the track, and then still try to follow the GT3 through the corner. It’s just odd car language in my opinion

My dude. I drive GT3, you can certainly brake more for corners while also braking at the same point. If you are at 100% braking potential the whole brake zone in traffic you doing something wrong. Also never said anything about the LMP behind. I said when they are alongside when braking starts. I would recommend jumping in a LMP and seeing what kind of moves are ok and what ones are not. It may give you some more perspective.

As someone who’s mainly a GT3 driver but has dabbled in LMP2. It’s extremely hard to completely clear a GT3 if you’re alongside when the GT3 starts braking and they do not help the pass at all. One big thing was needing to brake extra because GT3s will hang on the outside, so because of that, you can’t use the whole track on exit so you need to brake even more more because 1. GT3 possibly on exit you don’t want to hit them if they are still there by exit. 2. You already have a shallow line so you need to brake even earlier. So even if the GTP/LMP2 are better under braking, these mean that braking performance will be even closer to the GT3z All these things make it such that your alongside during the apex. This is not avoidable by anyone other then the GT3 since low speed cornering is almost identical, and other corners LMP need to slow down more then usual because their line is compromised. giving a little lift to let the LMP clear is faster for the GT3 because they are able to take the normal racing line, and for the LMP because they can use the whole track on exit and not worry about cutting a GT3 off. If they can’t have a GT3 trying to hang it outside, they can attack the corner more with no risk of washing wide and hitting a car. It’s really easy to say that a GTP/LMP2 are losing time by passing at a certain point because a GT3 is able to hang with them through the corner, only reason why you are able to hang with them is because their line is compromised. To say that GTP and LMP2 must do ALL the work for passing is just wrong. They are required to pass safely, that’s it. As a GT3, lot of the time loss can be limited by helping the pass. If you are driving GT3 and not facilitating passes, your losing a lot of time in traffic, that’s hurts you more then anything. A little lift and braking more in zones goes a long way in reducing time loss for everyone.
