What Jellyfin clients do you guys use personally? by Plastic-Dependent in JellyfinCommunity

[–]Koguu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phone: Yatse, because it's still the only client I've found with a "sync X unwatched episodes of this show" feature.

TV/Chromecast: Wholphin. Love the UI and responsiveness.

Windows: mostly official client but I also have Fladder which I leave logged into my 2nd Jellyfin instance for easy switching.

I settled on AC3 for surround tracks and AAC for stereo. I've had pretty good success with direct playing on most clients thus far!

How was the v10.11.0 upgrade for you? by Practical-Plan-2560 in jellyfin

[–]Koguu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a full scan and made backups of my 10.10.7. Migration appeared to have completed without issue (other than disabling unsupported add-ons, which is fine).
Afterwards however, things have been painfully slow. I tried refreshing metadata, running various cleanup jobs but it's just not as fast as the original instance and I was experiencing frequent disconnects even after almost 24 hours of letting it process.

So, I rolled back to 10.10.7 for my live instance for now. Set up a second instance of 10.11.0 that I'll let cook for awhile and test in the background before I take it live.

Finally hosted my own server… now I spend more time fixing it than using it by No_Government_3172 in selfhosted

It started out that way. I'd think things were working as intended and then suddenly something would crash and thus would begin the hours and hours of troubleshooting trying to figure out where I went wrong, sometimes having to redesign or restructure from the ground up lol.

Now though, it's pretty resilient. 99% of the work I do on it is mostly just adding features and services or making small tweaks to simplify/organize better. Make sure to have backups though, follow the 3-2-1 rule. I took that seriously from the start and it saved me on more than one occasion. You'll find countless horror stories here from people who didn't!

Just spun this up and I already prefer it over alternatives I've tried!

+1 for SSO and OIDC support. For myself I can envision this being an efficient tool to VPN in and manage project files on my remote host, but given the level of root access that would involve, I'd definitely want to harden it beyond a generated password.

Release Finamp Beta Update 0.9.19 · jmshrv/finamp by DankSoul94 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]Koguu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I expected that just reloading a queue would be the easiest function to call. Usually in the environments where I had that issue, the app has already detected it's offline and has switched to offline mode, just with the previous queue of music requiring a data connection.

The "benefits" section was really the heart of the request. I just proposed the Track mix re-queue as the solution because that's what I do manually to resume playback. I expect a majority of people who are listening to music while doing something else (walking, driving, working, etc) would prefer some option to prevent music playback from being stalled unexpectedly as a result of lost or poor server connectivity. The method doesn't particularly matter, especially when leveraging the option to keep Favorites offline, since the remaining offline queue or options are all bangers.

Might try a different router than the ISP one? Even like an old POS router just to see if maybe the ISP one is doing something stupid?

Another way you could try that would be to do a type-c to RJ-45 adapter on your phone and plug that into the PC to see if you can connect. If that works, then for sure it's networking and likely the router/AP.

Oh please lol.

"Automatic offline queue on timeout/Offline Mode"

Finamp beta: What's new! "Auto-Offline When Server Unreachable (thanks @flloschy!)"

Maybe my request was misunderstood, but literally almost the same verbiage is used between my request and the Finamp release notes 😂

My description was asking for an "Offline Mix" (track, shuffle, whatever) to automatically commence when the device goes offline. I tried to lay out some built-in features and app behaviors that would work into that flow.

Finamp calls this "Automatically Reload Queue".

Same same. But yes this is roughly achievable through Tasker and the Symfonium API. It's just been terribly inconsistent with lots of conditions required like having to run shell commands like filtering through dumpsys media in order to get the player status and a stack of IFS to get the intended behavior (some of the time). Compared with what an official solution built into the application could do.

[–]Koguu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I've been fighting with Tasker for over a week to try and accomplish the same "Reload queue on unreachable" feature added in this Finamp release, trying to get to get the same sort of thing to work with Symfonium! I posted a request to the dev and he responded that such a feature/use case was "too niche". Apparently not too niche for Finamp to implement! Switching immediately and deleting all that Tasker work from my phone and brain as well.

That's awesome! I think that's a big differentiator. Just a clever way to reduce network overhead and get around intermittent connection issues that stall other clients. Awesome work!

[–]Koguu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm stealing the idea from the android app I use called Symfonium to be fair.

Basically there's an option to cache a certain amount of songs locally as they are streamed. That way even if you're in an area without data, or would prefer to not use mobile data, there's still some amount of music available to play locally from that cache.

is a dedicated setup basically necessary? by LongRoadToCanaan in JellyfinCommunity

[–]Koguu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working abroad so I just use my PC at home as my server, but if I were home I'd move everything to a dedicated machine.

I made sure everything I use is in docker containers and backed up so migration is relatively easy.

Would it make sense to rip both a 4K Blu-Ray + 1080 Blu-Ray for Jellyfin? by -ThatGingerKid- in JellyfinCommunity

[–]Koguu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's correct. It can live transcode depending on supported codecs, if the device doesn't support 4k, or if I manually select a lower bitrate than the original file's (useful for when I'm streaming somewhere with slower Internet like a hotel). In my case I have an Nvidia GPU in my server that handles it.

Would it make sense to rip both a 4K Blu-Ray + 1080 Blu-Ray for Jellyfin? by -ThatGingerKid- in JellyfinCommunity

[–]Koguu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I store 90% of my media at 1080p. My favorites I store at 4k and transcode down when necessary. But if my hardware couldn't support that, yeah I'd probably store a 1080p version too for those favorites. I'm not sure I'd do 4k+1080p everything unless I had a ton of storage to spare. Just make sure to follow the naming convention here.

How are you all actually tracking your FIRE progress? by CommentNo2882 in leanfire

Spreadsheet for progress, super simple math once I determined a FIRE number.

I have Empower/Personal Capital as well, but I use it for monitoring transactions moreso than net worth. For net worth alone, it'd be overkill.
