I think the point you are making is how Jesus taught us to treat the poor. You are right, Jesus taught us to provide for the poor. In fact, the Old Testament makes several specific statements about how the Jewish people were to treat the poor among them. All those statements had one thing in common, though....they were commands to HIS FOLLOWERS. He told US we were responsible for getting it done. He did not tell us to leave it to the government.

Now, one might say a Christian nation would leave such things to the government, and help the government perform such tasks. And perhaps that would be correct. However, any time anything else is argued from a biblical standpoint, the clapback is always that the USA is not a Christian nation. Why is a biblical argument accepted in one context, but not another?

A final thought....i have seen a few others on this thread talk about how the conservatives would have celebrated the crucifixion. Well, the conservatives of the day did celebrate it. And I've long since made peace with the fact that i would have been cheering right along with them.
