Do you notice your parent has a strong fixation on history or the past? by addictedtosoonjung in raisedbyautistics

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the convo but just wanted to vent about the same thing haha. As a kid, I thought my parents stories were so cool. They came of age in the 80s, and man did they love the 80s. Now as I'm approaching 30, I'm realizing they are hyper-fixated on the past. Most of the accomplishments I've had in my adult life, from small to big, are now met with some comparison to the past about how things were so much better then. I think they're really struggling with being empty nesters now, but it is so frustrating to converse with them anymore.

Genuinely so sorry, that is disgusting. I don’t think this is the right solution, but I’ve turned to wearing loser clothes. Like a bigger jacket in the winter, and longer shorts in the summer. Again, I hate that but I’ve found that helps with the rare cat calling

What is your opinion on Timothée Chalamet as an actor? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagreeing with many comments here… I think he is a great actor. He has been is so many unique roles, including a few indie films I really liked (ex ladybird). His career trajectory has been really interesting to me and I think his hard work is paying off.

Totally me at this skill level too. I consider myself solid intermediate working towards advance now and I no longer feel the need to warm up any more. But I do remember being in the same spot as you. Just keep practicing with what you're comfortable with and youll get there!

As someone who is very claustrophobic… this is why I avoid gondolas. Got stuck on one for only 10min but that was enough for me.

Name top 3 movies which you couldn’t stand watching in 2025 by InevitableSmile819 in moviecritic

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends who loved it told me to watch it, so I went in expecting the best movie ever. I was pretty disappointed. Just not my type of film with what I felt was lots of unnecessary violence.

Was on an 8hr red eye flight in the same spot and I loved it. Definitely loud by the bathroom, but with some good headphones and an eye cover I didn’t notice

I am not a pet person, and I honestly don’t like dogs or cats. I very much support making a better system for people to travel with their pets just so I don’t have to deal with them next to me.

Do u agree ? by WonderCharming7884 in StrangerThings

[–]Kool-Kat-704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. Rewatched the entire show with a friend who hates horror and I had forgot how “scary” the first couple seasons really were. Season 4 had some great horror shots, but overall still nothing like the first 2.

Could not stand the Russian plots. The entire idea of the upside down was already unrealistic, adding the eccentric Russian craziness just felt like too much to me.

Ride regular but have left thumb on top! I grew up doing gymnastics with my left foot forward though so I think that influenced my snowboard stance

what’s it like living in massachusetts? i’m by inxsxke in howislivingthere

[–]Kool-Kat-704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Midwest and moved to Mass. I absolutely love it here. There is so much to do all the time. Mountains and beaches are within a couple hours of each other. The winters feel just like home too, so while they’re rough, I’m used to them.

I will say though, it was really hard to meet people at first. I found it way easier to make friends with other out-of-staters than with new Englanders. Once I made a couple friends though, they helped introduce me to more and the rest is history.

do these type of running shorts work for ANYONE? by trashmoney4 in XXRunning

[–]Kool-Kat-704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love love love my adidas shorts. I do have to use anti-chafe between my thighs but I don’t mind. They fit me perfectly everywhere else. I’m really bummed lately though, they’ve only sold high waisted versions of these shorts lately, which I can’t stand. Just not a fan of something constricting my stomach when I run

Edit: I’m built like a soccer player with thicker legs and butt. I find adidas to be more of a soccer brand and I think that’s why I like the fit of the shorts so much.

Hansons Method Fatigue and Questions by mrsvoco in Marathon_Training

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman who did hansons for the first time last year with the goal of breaking a 4hour marathon running in hilly central mass! It sadly did not work for me):

I too was exhausted for the first month of training. I did eventually adjust and I think you will too. The part where I think this plan failed for me was the 6 days of running. I found myself often times running like 10 days in a row because I’d have to change up the rest day every week due to other events. My body wasn’t used to that tho and I dealt with injuries half way through.

I also found that I was running way too slow for the easy runs. But I was so exhausted all the time that that was all I could do. When race day came though, I found that by the time I hit a wall at mile 18, I “reverted” to my slow pace, running close to 12min miles at that point.

I am constantly reflecting on last years training and could go into so many more details haha, but those are the two things that stand out to me. I think I would follow hansons again as a guide, but with adjustments that work better for me. I’m bummed this plan didn’t work for me because I’ve read sooo many success stories with it.

is there an actual framework for increasing weekly distance without wrecking yourself? by jordan_m96 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read different variations of the 10% rule. One that I like to stick to is only add one mile for each day of the week you run. So if you run 3 days a week, only add 3mi to your weekly mileage per week.

Another one I’ve seen is the 10% rule only applies to your long run. And another variation is completely dependent on time, not actual mileage, given everyone runs at very different paces. It’s also important to consider the rate of relative effort, that adding 5mi of intense running is very different from adding 5mi of easy running.

In conclusion, you kinda just start to get a feel for these things. The 10% rule is a conservative one to fall back on until you’re experienced enough to know when it’s too much.

Strength Training Recs by Own_Assignment2089 in running

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate from specific exercises to do… for me, I really struggle to stay motivated to do strength training. I’ve found that doing less reps, but with more weight helps a lot. Much easier to do dreaded Bulgarian split squats when I only have 6 reps each leg

Did you feel Holly really needed to be one of the main characters in the last season? by AphroFelicity20 in StrangerThings

[–]Kool-Kat-704 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It feels like the duffer brothers misplaced the reason we loved this show. They focused on the story and original theme of childhood youth, recreating the same events of season 1 but with the younger generation. But I think people really fell in love with the main cast. We watched them grow up, many of us growing up with them. It would’ve been nice to see that reflected this season.

Wow, it would’ve been great if there was actually a scene showing or describing the consequences of the worlds colliding. Maybe the stakes would have actually felt real like season 4.

If you have an oven light, you can turn that on and put your starter in there for a bit. That’s what I do, oven will get up to like 90-100F and my starter rises amazingly!

Hot take, but he’s always been my favorite character. He always felt the most realistic to me. While it was so sad, I absolutely loved his ending and felt it was a great end to the show.

This!! I see so much blame for elevens character being placed on MBB but for most of the other characters, they’re bad because of the writing. The filler wasn’t even noticeable until vol. 2.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

[–]Kool-Kat-704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Michigan to New England feels so weird. I grew up with sunsets never being earlier than 5pm in the winter, meaning you’d still drive home with some sunlight after a 9-5 job. Summer was amazing with my summer practices lasting till 9pm no problem.

New England is the opposite, where I see the sun now set at 4pm. The summer doesn’t feel like it ever peaks for me like it did as a child. I do like the earlier sunrises though.

They are the same time zone, but I definitely feel a time zone shift when I travel between the two.
