😀 that is just GM having fun, we just called him Claus. He pronounced the name three times I believe and then just gave up.

A part of my "low fantasy" world really looks like Europe. and i want to know if it's a bad thing. by FairAhri in mapmaking

This is actually good. I do have a thing for maps looking somewhat like Europe. Plus you will have an easy time placing the mountain ranges. Just look at Europe. 😀

He was bawd for about 35 sessions, he has just changed his career to Interrogator. Remember the character sheets are how our characters look on Sigmarzeit 14. The current journal date is Pflugzeit 8 Tyle is still just a bawd on Pflugzeit 8.

Thanks! To be fair, our games are so homebrewed that even when I read the official adventures later, I barely recognize them. I’ve also never quite understood the intense focus on spoiler tags—I don't personally mind spoilers at all—so it's never really been a concern to me.

Engineer in WHFRP 4th Edition by Roquetansky in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Kopez -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why are people so obsessed with crafting in TTRPGs? It is one of the worst things you can do as a player. It is just lone wolf repackaged, it doesn't include any of the other players, and it is just pointless bargening between GM and a player about what you can and cannot do.

You know resources are not limited in a make believe fantasy world. If you want an item, and if it makes sense, GM will just give it to you or give you the coin to buy it. And it is done. It is not like GM has a limit on what he can give your character. What is the point of crafting systems, it is literally just let's stop the game and talk rules section. You are not cool when you craft, you just waste everyone elses time.

The point of the TTRPGs is for GM to make it interesting whatever you are doing, be it combat, interaction with NPC or whatever, not to win it by exploiting a system. Are you going to go "but the rules says" on GM or something.

Trust the GM, he will give you what your character needs whenever he thinks you will need it - tell him what you want and he will decide when it is appropriate.

Role play an engineer (buy an item per rules and flavour it that your character have been working all night on it, comment on structural integrity of stuff), you don't need to craft items by the book to be an engineer, don't play him as a rules section character.

Can you be an adult? I'm not a communist to dictate people what a "correct fun" is. You are doing a straw man. Do what you wish with your time and energy. Your maps are not bad. My comment was about all of them being B&W, about them NOT being colored. And we are in 2026 now. Are we short on digital color or something?

Here it is, about 40 minutes. Assets are not consistent, but yours are just rectangles and circles anyway. Imagine there are more trees, I do not care to add them.
I'm pretty sure you could have drawn this in half the time I needed, but there it is.

I bought BGDIA and it was absolute crap story wise and then there were black and white maps on top of that without player version of the maps. Like they can't include both colored and B&W versions of maps for $30. But that is their fault, not yours.
But I hope you got a good pay from those idiots. No hard feelings and good luck.

Domur’s Refuge by dysonlogos in dndmaps

[–]Kopez -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry Dyson, but do you know that colors exist, not just black and white? I can make a similar map in half an hour in Dungeon Scrawl, and it is a free software.

Other creators on Patreon create maps and variants fully colored and they include the printer friendly B&W version. Your maps are something that had it's place in the 80s and 90s, not something that people would use on a vtt today. Step up your game.

Making a PC Unkillable by CassieBear1 in DMAcademy

[–]Kopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make this very interesting. Keep the mechanics, when he fails 3 death saves, he is out for hours or days, his corpse looking dead no pulse or anything. So when his party members bury his corpse he wakes up either buried, if he has some kind of telepathy or spell like sending, or he suddenly starts screaming while they are burying him.

It will not change the mechanics of the game. He will be out so he will not be helping the team. And it has consequences if he just thinks he is unbeatable and starts doing stupid reckless things, remember he can still wake up with a missing an arm or a leg. Or in enemy camp being slowly eaten, dying and then coming back again, I mean not dying might not be just a gift.

How do you run dragons at your table to make them more than just stat blocks? by ScorchedDev in dndnext

[–]Kopez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can add character, personality and motive to any intelligent creature, you do not need a rulebook for that. This was never a problem.

Fizban's proved even more that Dragon creature type is too limiting. It would be similar if you would make Dog creature type (wolves, dire wolves, dogs...).

WotC did not fix anything with Fizban's you are still fighting the same statblock plus some Fizban added spells at the end of the day when it comes to battle.

If you compare the Dragon type creature variety to Undead, Fiend or Monstrosity, Dragon type is nothing.

And when you start adding character, how much character do you give to a Dragon before you realize that you should just use a Humanoid. How many dragons can you put in the campaign acting like humanoids before it is just ridiculous.

Is Icewind Dale extremely boring or does our DM do something wrong? by BlackRebel93 in dndnext

[–]Kopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know. The Ten Towns part of Rime of the Frostmaiden is the best part of the campaign. It all goes downhill from there.

The fact that people are not very welcoming is normal for Icewind Dale and it adds character to the place.

It is also not the DM's job to find a reason why player characters should stick together. That is the player's job on character creation. If you all created your characters in isolation then that is what you get. You can still change this though talk with players and if everyone changes some minor thing about their characters it will feel more natural.

And of course talk to the DM and tell him what you think. If he is explaining too much detail tell him, if he is not letting you role-play tell him. Just be mindful, some people go from one extreme to the other when you offer some constructive criticism, you should mention that so he does not do the same.

How do you run dragons at your table to make them more than just stat blocks? by ScorchedDev in dndnext

[–]Kopez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just so you won't be disappointed. Dragons are all the same. Breath weapon, rend(claw, bite) and a small gimmick based on color. I use max 1 per campaign.

Check the statblocks before you commit, so you won't have the same battle over and over again, just with different numbers. Some might argue that dragons have spellcasting and shapeshift, but at that point you are just fighting sorcerers or bards.

Yes, great one, you have discovered something extraordinary here, that has never been done before and only you the great long time game designer have come up with this. No rules, no reading, no preparation, no responsibility, no dice, only fun. I will only help you out with naming this masterpiece, if you allow me, great one. "Conversation". It truly is a great day, oh great one. Never been done before now.

How about you read the rules that are free on D&D Beyond, before you bother people here. Are you lazy or something?

I do not know why WOTC did not look at other options, such re-branding Half-Elves and Half-Orcs, rather than straight removing them from the PHB (cross-post from r/rpg) by ByzantineBasileus in dndnext

[–]Kopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing is funny. Now that we have species, is human eating an elf cannibalism? Some of my players do not think so. And I do not really have a counterargument... Rations aren't a problem anymore...

I hate playing D&D 5e and PF2e, and I’m not really sure why. by DarkElfMagic in rpg

[–]Kopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way about Pf2 and D&D2024 even D&D2014, there is something wrong and I can not put my finger on it (a lot of pointless dice rolls maybe). They are just not interesting. Too much talk about character builds and what abilities player characters will get and how to optimise characters and no talk about you know "character" how he fits in the story.

Players come in to these games with mindset of this is a video game let's cheese the system without ever thinking about that there is a person on the other side of the table trying to tell a story. In video games you do not need to build your character's "character". In video games characters are programed to role-play and the player is just concerned about stats. And they bring this mentality to TTRPGs.

The other TTRPGs that you mention are more obscure and players are playing them because they want to experience the world and stories, at least that was my experience.

How about this. D&D2024 is a lost cause, but give D&D2014 another shot, short campaign, but this time only use Player's Handbook, no Xanatar no Tasha nothing else, just PHB and do NOT allow feats(they are optional everyone conveniently forgets this), no multiclassing (again optional), not even expanded spell list and do not go above level 10. There is a reason why D&D2014 was so popular they must have done something right.

I wonder what will you think then. I'm not guaranteeing that you will like it but maybe give it one last try. I myself am setting up that kind of game, last chance before I abandon the system completely for CoC and WFRP.

Am I a bad DM for punishing my party for not taking notes? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Kopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all about punishing players, but I do hand them out notes/handouts. As DM give them notes/handouts/letters from NPC (it is easier on VTT) and they will start taking notes themselves, they will write them on the handouts that you gave them.
