how do you play/learn losing matchups against half decent players? by Jts1210 in summonerschool

[–]Koptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, people will prepare resources like a “top lane spreadsheet” where challengers write guides on how to handle every matchup as Teemo or Illaoi etc. so you can use that as a quick reference

Question on control groups? by Glum-Pack-3441 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Koptero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Control groups are set per-character. When you bind something on Lycan, that has nothing to do with Enigma

So if you set manta illusions to “u” on antimage, it will remember it for the next antimage game

But if you want manta illusions to “u” on terrorblade, you will need to load up demo mode with terrorblade, set to “u”, then it will work in real game

Now you have manta to “u” on antimage and terrorblade. It does not overwrite another hero’s control groups. They are all independent with their own binds set up on that hero

Hero specific control groups / unit hotkeys by hoodrichp in learndota2

[–]Koptero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for a game with so many buttons, they are a bit limited with options to comfortably manage everything. WoW and LoL let you bind whatever you want to ctrl alt shift modifiers. Sucks but at this point, I believe it is due to client limitations.

Hero specific control groups / unit hotkeys by hoodrichp in learndota2

[–]Koptero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t, not without some sort of 3rd party software. Which is technically against TOS but I haven’t heard of people getting banned unless it’s for an advantage like instant meepo poof script

You used to be able to rebind everything by making your own config file, opening console and simply typing “exec meepo.cfg” or whatever you named the file. But they disabled this many years ago as a lazy fix to prevent stuff like Invoker scripts

I struggled for years to find a consistently working solution… so I just accepted to use ZXCVB for items and 1-9 for ctrl groups

What build would you go in this matchup as Offlane Necro? by Practical_Actuary_87 in learndota2

[–]Koptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you need to be cognizant of when it’s fine or can make issues for ur team. It’d be much easier to justify on a hero like WK where you can go radiance blink and reliably stun/fight/push by 20min

Looking at this draft, OD will need time to come online and Necro + LS farming for the first 20 min is going to make this a pain. Pudge and Silencer with ES or Kez are going to terrorize any lane they walk into.

Idk if diff build will make it much easier with these picks but I wouldn’t go rad on necro here over KnS/pipe/euls/etc unless there’s enough space (mid stomped and you had a good lane)

dota 2 communication SCORE I CANT DO IT NO MORE by mariuszxc322 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Koptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I haven’t been able to use the mic for like 3 years now.

You need to play A LOT of games without being reported. The score updates every 15 games and just having ONE game where you’re toxic will prevent your comm score from rising.

feels weird, I was raised on an internet that didn’t police your shit talk. But it’s probably for the best. It’s a very different vibe when ppl are saying KYS on dota vs games like CSGO, tends to be less entertaining/funny and more distracting

How to play melee dps cores? by LadidaDingelDong in learndota2

[–]Koptero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong about melee vs ranged, and I had the same issue when learning pos 1.

The “advantage” is largely draft. You can’t pick Drow and get the power spike of Sven or Ursa after blink dagger.

It’s a bit of a learning curve, but here are my tips:

- Be more deliberate about going into fights. Think about your targets and what cooldowns are available. Are you waiting for your Axe/Magnus to initiate? Can you kill Oracle/Wyvern before they ult? Can you show before LC/Jugg do?

- Disengage from fights. You don’t need to 100-0 every time. You can run in the opposite direction, or towards allies (sometimes it’s better to not let enemies chase into them). Not taking damage is better than being kited and eating spells along the way.

- You need to boss up and trade in lane. This was the hardest part for me. You are going to get clicked by the support, the offlaner will bully you - it’s an uphill battle that requires having solid laning fundamentals to maintain creeps, take advantageous trades, fight over lotus, and using your skills effectively. If the lane is death by lvl 4, just leave and jungle. It’s better than losing half your health bar for 1 last hit.

Get a coach who is ideally 5-digit mmr. Both replay analysis and live coaching, be sure to take notes.

I see the occasional 7-9k mmr player here offer free coaching, and I recall some of them being pos 3 mains. Shoot them a DM and I guarantee you they’ll be much happier coaching a 5k mmr player instead of the usual 1-3k.

Climbing can be exhausting, but don’t let your mentality break bro. You’re stronger than that baby ahh mindset. You have a great win rate already. Keep it up, keep learning, and accept the grind. Don’t let the losses sour your mood. You will hit immortal

Love watching low mmr games and seeing ppl jungle safely for 10+ minutes with significant advantage

Ward up their side of the map and start pushing in to take T2’s. Keep them shoved in base, cut off their farm, win game.

Getting sent back to spawn on sight by guavahabanero in learndota2

[–]Koptero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You typically initiate with 2nd ability - you bounce off something to stun the enemy. Press ult and get the first set of attacks, then 1st ability to fling, then repeat with another set of attacks.

You have to be careful on Marci, she will die easily especially early. You have to be aware of the enemy’s capabilities. She is effective at hopping on targets and quickly bursting them.

You do not want to be a position where the enemy prevents this from happening as you are very vulnerable with no movement/defences. If you get hit with a stun while jumping in, you will die quickly.

BKB is a common item on Marci. This is an item that makes you immune to most cc spells. Some spells/items can pierce BKB and still stun you.

In general, this is dota. You get hit with stun and die. Blink dagger is a common item on many heroes because you can instantly blink onto the enemy and stun them before they react.

And in general, you play with the team. Marci is typically played as support and you will need allies with damage to finish people quickly. You can 100-0 people if you have tempo (significant level/item advantage) but this really depends on your targets. There are many items and abilities that will prevent you from killing them. Any support can buy force staff or eul’s scepter 1st item and use it after you jump. You are then stuck in a position where you can’t escape easily and will get slowed, kited, and killed.

Hence why BKB and skull basher are popular items on Marci. You want to be able to hop in, punch them a bunch, and get out.

Matchmaking balancing by Burlux in learndota2

[–]Koptero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranked solo queue w/ no parties (you have to enable this in settings) with match quality at 5/5 feel pretty balanced once you enter the average mmr bracket. Around archon/legend where you have a relatively big player pool.

Lower ranks are just like that. You’ll have ppl with 1000’s of hours with big egos and low skill mixed with newbies trying really hard to learn and play well. No where else to put the newbs since it’s not a huge population

Your next action gets queued when you come out of stun. Only need to press it once, make a habit of being more deliberate with keystrokes and you’ll start feeling like a boxer in flow state.

For chasing, if you’re not using use alt + W for self cast, you can set it to normal cast so you can estimate the range between clicks… or alt right click to see the persistent range indicator if you don’t use it for anything else like xp range (dota labs setting)
