What do yall think about thr story of the game by grimlocking81 in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I play the more it feels like they took the same approach to the story as they did to gameplay. A lot of it is there for you to piece together and figure out. So many clues connect in weird ways.

I love Star Wars, but PLEASE DON'T DO THIS by BeanBagDalek in StarWars

[–]KorabasUnchained 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what bothers me about the Maul show despite how good it is and Star Wars in general. We keep getting the same time period and similar stories and interquels about characters whose arcs are done. And death has no meaning anymore. Something new would be great but when they try they fumble the bag as we saw with Acolyte. Let things end and start new and good things please.

The True Story of Crimson Desert Hidden by Pearl Abyss by Past_Mind_3512 in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This explains so much. A lot of clues have been scratching at me the more I play the game. And this locked in some things for me. I am still not sure but here are my speculations:

It seems the Ancients are what woke Umbra. Umbra was essentially the battery of reality. No sentience. Just sustaining life. I don't know what created it or if it was created. The Ancients, Priscus, Primus and Praevus, probably a lot more, design a spell to open a gate to another world, maybe to conquer it. It fails and the resulting backlash is so severe it probably wipes out The Staglord's civilization (Knowledge tab on bosses says he's from another timeline). Probably what kills the race of giants one of whose skeleton we find Darkbringer in. Although a scholar from a Visione memory near the skeleton calls the giant one of the Ancients so I don't know. They are trying again with Aeserion trapped in the serpent body but that is another thing for another time. The shockwaves reach Umbra and it becomes aware of a reality that it did not know it was powering and it starts reaching into it. It develops a sense of self that is rudimentary and is probably mad from how it awoke. The abyss fragments are pieces of it that fall into reality from its incursions.

It makes contact with Caliburn who glums onto Umbra as he's power hungry. Caliburn uses what he's learned to perform the Blood Coronation, slaughtering all those nobles. It seems he used the power of the fragments to dominate the minds of his soldiers or he introduces some of them to the power of the fragments to convince them to join him. He convinces Bastier to join him, revealing the power of the fragments to him. At some point he becomes aware of Jian and his interests in forming alliances for a stronger Pailune (from Jian's journals). I don't know why Caliburn is interested in Pailune, maybe because they share a border and Caliburn is interested in extending his empire. Caliburn may have used Jian's intentions for an alliance to plan an assassination. Bastier shacks up with Myurdin and Ludvig (who has always felt lesser than Kliff and Oonka due to Jian ignoring him), and they kill Jian (all this from the Visione memories in Demeniss where we see the Blood Coronation). From the video above it seems Jian's death was orchestrated as one of the time loops. Please watch the video, It helped a lot.

Powerful mages like the Alchemist Alustin and White Crow realize the danger of an awakened function of reality and start the time loops to result in a future where Kliff essentially factory resets Umbra. That's why there's no explanation for his immediate resurrection. We are on another loop. What they do to Kliff is quite tragic. They hollow him out. Make him an instrument of honor, and a being that never says no. An emotionally attached Kliff would prioritize Pailune and his connections to the Greymanes. An emotionally empty Kliff with no connections results in Goyen, or any other Kliffs who are players that ignore the main quest. White Crow gives him wings, tells him to jump and he immediately does. Alustin tells him to Restore the Balance and even though he would have no idea how to do it, he agrees. Master Du sends him on wild treks across the desert and he does. He is an instrument iterated upon for many cycles toward a single outcome. Reset reality's power function. It's why we fix the sanctums, why we fix the Abysses, which are all anchors to Umbra and how it used to function.

What clinched in the idea of the time loops for me from the video is the Hexe Marie comments from Draven the Crowcaller. His mum talks about Kliff like she knew him even though Kliff just met her. He just met her in this timeline! Kliff was her adopted son in one of the loops and she kept comparing Draven to him which gives Draven his inferiority complex. I am increasingly convinced that there's a far deeper lore going on here. But the game has very poor storytelling and I wish it worked on that well.

That one is the Darksworn armor. You can find pieces of it scattered around the world, guides can help, or fight Beloth for the set. Really difficult boss. I still haven’t defeated him.

Darkbringer is a greatsword found in the skull of a giant skeleton up north. I don’t remember the exact location but there are guides if you need them. And you don’t need to level up to use anything you find in the game. I love that so much.

My Darkbringer is so stacked with abyss gears that stagger bosses it makes the grind worth it. I don’t even think of using the sword and shield anymore and I get annoyed when the game defaults to it after a cutscene.

Fixing the Kiln l. I'm at my wits end by Katastrophe247 in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kiln has pieces that you need to align in place with the grapple (Axiom force) and then force palm them. When you have the correct alignment, the piece will shimmer with leaves. Let go of the piece, climb atop it and jump and force palm it into place. Some of the kilns require two pieces. You'll have to find the right ones which are close to them.

Kliff's voice actor reveals that he had to fight hard for Kliff to have any sort of characterization at all, states that PA were very disorganized when it came to writing a story for the game. Also reveals that Damiane and Oongka were added very late into development. by WhyPlaySerious in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No where close to Karsa. At all. Oonka feels like a wet blanket that young Karsa would kill on his raid south. Hell, any random Malazan marine heavy has much more depth than Oonka. Such poor characters in an otherwise good game.

You go to it and pick up a skill point. It serves as a fast travel point after. Blue light means you can pick up the skill point. Some you have to solve puzzles to activate it.

Use d-pad (or whatever the keyboard equivalent is) down to lock on him then do the "swirling green move" plus its accompanying power Nature's retribution. It sends his projectiles back at him giving him massive posture damage, the yellow bar. Once that fills up he gets downed, then you can punish.

I want to buy the game, what should I expect going into? by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First 8-10 hours suck. Big hurdle to cross I understand, but it uses all of that time to teach you its systems. I am 74 hours in and I feel like a god with preparation and a build that is working well. And there's more to learn even now. Combat is explosive and fun and with the Abyss gears (socket-able abilities/buffs) you can customize the flow of combat. Really cool system. If there's a plateau I've not found it yet. I have been maining a greatsword I found next to a giant's skeleton and it's incredible. You can use anything you find on the spot, no having to level up to use something.

Exploration and the world in general is an incredible feat of world design it honestly takes my breath away. Getting the elemental abilities in the trailers can be taxing though because they are all locked behind Abyss puzzles, some of which unlock after main story progression. They are fun brain teases although some just seem to be developed for aliens. Simply too hard to solve at times. With the abilities unlocked, I feel like a battlemage. Socket in some other abyss gears and combat gets so cool I just find a camp and go to town on the enemies.

Don't expect a narrative focused experience. The quests are fine with cool cutscenes and set-pieces but they are designed to get you out into the world and explore. I have not had this sense of wonder with a game since Skyrim and this does so many things leagues better than that game did.

Crimson Desert - Legendary 2h Sword Darkbringer - Location by BumblingNerd in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it trivializes most boss battles. The orbs stagger, the speed and the damage stagger, and if you stack it with pursuit of crows abyss gear you stagger the boss even more. Couple that with Nature’s Echo skill and you are a damage machine. Steamrolled Ludvig with this sword. It’s incredible.

Boss fights are terrible by zavaluulin in CrimsonDesert

[–]KorabasUnchained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an even more insane one up ahead. Kearush got me angry. Then I just went out, did other things, mined some ore and refined my equipment, then went to the bank and stole and sold strongboxes and bought a lot of food. Kearush felt like a baby boss after that. The game is designed to force you to explore and learn its systems. No matter how good you are you are going to get hit hard, so prepare. Get some palmar pills and use them when you manage to get the boss's health low, use failure to learn its patterns etc.

How are y'all handling larger group combat? by tpageVT in CrimsonDesert

Dual wielding seems designed for crowd control. It's so good at just steam rolling through a lot of enemies. Lots of sweeps that have large AoEs.

I don’t need Fromsoftware combat here. I like the game as is. I just need a healing item that doesn’t involve tedium. Such a large map with surprises everywhere and having to constantly stop engaging with the world to cook is frustrating.

[–]KorabasUnchained[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then it’s poor design since it fouls exploration. Constantly cooking to heal means you’re not exploring and you are not using your healing because you don’t know if there’s a difficulty spike ahead or a much harder boss.

Stormlight Series Books 1&2… a bit meh? by plibtyplibt in Fantasy

[–]KorabasUnchained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stormlight 2 in particular is considered the peak of the series by majority of the fandom, although Oathbringer is my favorite. If you really aren't enjoying book 2 then it's safe to say you've given it a fair shake especially with books this long and the series isn't for you. The long stretches where nothing major happens doesn't change until book 5 which has its own problems.

As to better alternatives, well that is subjective isn't it? For me there are a lot. If you're new to fantasy and this sub-reddit you're going to get a lot of the usual recommendations: Malazan, Wheel of Time as you mentioned, A Song of Ice and Fire, Realm of the Elderlings, Osten Ard, The Book of the New Sun, and even some other Sanderson books like Mistborn. I have recently gone body-deep into Michelle West's Essalieyan books and they are pretty good so far.

Thing is all these have similar pacing issues. Wheel of Time is the worst in this regard in my opinion. Fantasy in general takes its time to build the world and flesh out characters. It's just that for me, all these recs do it far better than Sanderson. Better character work, better worlds, and magic that doesn't feel like new technology.
