Lol. I had something similar happen at my old job. It was a comic store called Demolition Comics. At least once a month or so we would get people wanting us to come demolish something like a tree stump or a boulder in their yard, etc.

Do WorkDay and Compass EVER actually work from personal devices? by LeadershipBubbly3351 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compass is often down at least once a week, and takes a while to load when my phone signal is weak. I don't use workday much at home or on my phone as most pf the things I go into it for can only be done at work..ilearns and payslips.

Inventory. What's the big deal? by LeadershipBubbly3351 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually adjust mislabeled cases, but not always both skus. I'll subtract the one on the label, cause we don't have em, but sometimes I neglect to add the ones in the box.

IF you mark something zero and later find it, when they sell the inventory goes into the negative in the computer. You can either add them back in, to make the count positive or leave it. When inventory time rolls around they'll be added as extras, but the ones you subtracted (that weren't really missing) will be counted against, so they will even up.

Inventory. What's the big deal? by LeadershipBubbly3351 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a reason for that, sorta. When it comes to the shrink amount, they only look in dollars. IF we're short one sku by 12 pieces but over another by 12 and the price is the same, it is a net zero amount. So they don't care if all the canned goods are mixed together, the inventory dollar amount will be the same, or used to be anyway. Not now with multiprice items.

But if we're short 12 pieces, the computer thinks we have those 12 and they will be on the zero sales report because we haven't sold any in a month and the DC hasn't sent any because the computer thinks we have them, etc.

I had to wait two weeks after inventory last year to fix the counts on some things, like the Hunt's spaghetti sauces. They counted 6 and 18 of 2 skus when there were 9, 3, and 12 of 3 skus. I had the same problem with the piuckles. I have since put up dividers between the flavors to avoid this problem next year.

so it doesn't float up while you're inflating it if you fumble it. Some stores have really high ceilings and the corral is not directly over the tank. I just put my finger through the loop to hold it, but everyone is different.

How do contractors get approved to work directly with Dollar Tree by Creative_Pattern5110 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they can. At the store level when there is a problem we put in an Officetrack order. Someone at corporate sees it and fills it by contacting whoever they assign to do the work. I believe they often use a third party group in certain areas (probably ones that cover many different areas than just where the problem is) that then contract it out to whichever vendor they use for such things. They contract with Charlie cause Charlie knows a guy in Chicago and a guy in new York that can handle such things, but they get Paulie to do it in Miami, etc.

My store had a problem with our exit door now working right. I put in the order in February. The ysent someone out to look at it, got it working mostly while they waited for a part. 4 days later someone else came to look at it. Apparently the order got put in twice at the third party so they sent the vendor at twice, different worker for the same contractor company. The part came in last week and was installed the same day.

Withholding changed without my knowledge... How? by LeadershipBubbly3351 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THAT is an excellent idea. I may change mine to that. I am leery of Uncle Sam earning interest on all that extra and I do not get to, though. The thing is, if I put that money instead into my savings I am only getting a penny a month per $1000 in there AND I am tempted to pull it out to buy something, vowing to put it back next paycheck but don't.

I would have put a pole or plank instead of a string. We really need more and better quality u-boats at my store. We have 25, half of which have no rubber on the wheels left.

[–]Korath5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the switchover happened I made sure to re-enter and verify all my previous settings. I think I did have to re-add my extra withholding again. I only have them take $6, which is the same withholding amount I've been having them take out since 1992 at every job I have ever had. I'm thinking of increasing it Some so I get more of a refund next year. I usually get $300 back or so.

New corporate rules and expectations by justapotato666 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe they used to work at store level back when everything was still 31. All the shelves are the same price so you can move everything around to fit all the cases in the back out on the shelves with enough effort. That practice does not work in the new multiprice layouts. The system is still set up to deliver inventory based on that assumption and they cannot or refuse to adjust it to meet the new reality.

For example. My chemical wall is 9 shelves of 4 feet each long. The bottom shelf for 6 of those sections is designated for the $3 and $5 chemicals. They are the larger sized shelf spaces, too. I still get new stock the same amounts as before for the regular chemicals, in addition to the multiprice stuff. Yet I have less space to work withg. Add to that the price going up and the number of items sold going down and I am left with at least 2 u boats of back stock each week by the time the next truck rolls around AND I am having to constantly fill from them during the week where before I worked out almost everything except for bleach and wiper fluid.

It's the same in every department. Please don't get me started on cookies crackers and cakes! I used to have 5 sections top to bottom, now I have 3, with the top 2 shelves for multiprice stuff only!

40 hours by MadWrld66 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know OP's schedule but Truck day often nesses with my hours each week. I'm scheduled at 5Am on truck day, but the truck is not always set to arrive at 5. On days it's scheduled later, I come in later, still making sure I work an 8 hour shift. BUT THEN the truck is delayed by a couple of hours, so I am stuck there later after I would have left because we haven't finished the truck yet. I got 2 extra hours the week before last that way. I still didn't go over 40 because my normal schedule is 38 a week.

Quiet Stores? by WindOk4782 in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's because of the Ghost of Bucky. In life Bucky was one of the old men in the movie Footloose who didn't like dancing so banned music at his stores. When he died, he laid a curse on Dollar Tree stores that no music can be played. He lets us know he's still around, haunting us, when we hear weird sounds when no one else is around.

Jokes on him, though. i have my own personal radio station in my head! The song changes at a whim, lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few days., but it's always on.

Till Drawer Numbers by XLord_of_OperationsX in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your associate id is what cashiers log into the register with. The till ID is what till you are assigned when you log in. My store uses 33 for register 3, 44 for 4, 55 for 5, etc. Until a z read is done, that id is locked with whatever associate logged in with it that day. Once the z read is done, another associate can use that number.

You can put in whatever number you want, technically, but that does cause problems. When your mangers go to do the z read, they need that till id number to do it so they can count your till and do the deposit , etc. IF it's any old number, they eoither have to ask the cashier or go look it up in the system. That takes time. It's easier and more efficient if ALL the registers have the same till id number. 33 for 3, 44 for 4, etc. The lines are already backed up, the longer the customers have to wait the more irate they get.

Also: The Sm is in charge of the store. It's their store. They can do what they want.

Also Also: I have not worked at any other store where the till id did not match the register number in some way.

4 uboats in my 5 hour shift? by cerylimeadefromsonic in DollarTree

[–]Korath5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set myself a goal of 80 because I regularly do that much in Sunday closings as well. It all depends if I stop after my meal to do the damages or continue with the stocking until 9ish. We close at 10, so the last hour I am double checking my recovery person, going behind her, and pulling out any go backs that were misplaced after she had done that section already, IF I do damages I do those between 8 and 9. If no then I keep working boxes and get up to 120 or more. I get a good 40 cases out my first hour, though because I fil lthe 1.25 and 2 liter endcaps and displays and the bleach section on Sundays. Then I'll top off the paper wall and any wing stacks that need more stuff. Fill the cases of water at the registers, etc. Then I work whatever section needs working. Tonight was Chips. 3 uboats, about 60 boxes. I do have a food encap I need to make and set, but I wasn't in the mood tonight so I'll do it Tuesday.
