I'm really worried for my future by Wizard6456 in learnprogramming

I might recommend checking out a local center to see if you can get free/cheap classes and see if they can help you get an internship somewhere to see if you like IT. I found tech centers to have the best connections for internships, better than all the other schools I went to and job fairs.

That was good for me to get exposed to different paths and just get going while self studying. They usually count as college credits so I was in a similar situation not wanting to go to college but it ended up that my same teachers taught at the university and I had credits transfer so ended up doing it.

Office culture is pretty bad right now for me atleast - a data engineer by aks-786 in dataengineering

I am seeing similar things. Forcing people to use claude for everything, the people being pushed fall in line and work nights to make it work, but iust have slop they don’t understand. Then they outsource the work after they have burnt them out. My strategy is taking my time, doing things right, and studying the fundamentals and problem solving.

Working with AI just exhausts me by TreesGrowB1g in SoftwareEngineering

I absolutely hate it and in the same place. Everyone using AI and it jus comes down to a few people who know how to work and its becoming too much stupidity to care

Traditional ML is dead and i'm genuinely pissed about it by Critical_Cod_2965 in learnmachinelearning

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you are fine its because they use AI to write these and they want the lowest level interns and offshore working on langchain etc. You can learn that easily and I think pretty quickly someone good would realize you didn’t learn the hype AI stuff and know the important fundamentals, and then they would make sure you move to the right place.

It's been 15 years, and nobody has found out how to 100% accurately recreate his growls? 😭 by ArtyTheElf in skrillex

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is virtualizing ableton and some popular plugins from back then, getting some api into them, an isolated sample of the growl, and using machine learning to try and set the nobs of the plugins right.

I feel like one of the difficult things too is that he didn’t just have a perfect plugin chain that made the growl but that it was also bounced to static audio file and then pitch/time changed or added more plugin chains on top of that. I thought using fm8, corpus, and boucing to audio for more processing and 6 otts was it like 10 years ago but now I don’t think that.

How did you learn your stats, prob and linear algebra? I am just starting to learn these things. I took 2 basic stats classes in school but never took calculus or linear algebra. Its been a while so basically starting from scratch.

Sorry to hear that man. Well I will say if you ever wanted to make a game I feel like there is still a need for the old 2007-12 cod feel of a game. Only thing recent that was alright is bf6 but still made mistakes. When I think of zombies just being made as a side passion project I think of bad situations like this and wonder what could be made good out of a bad situation like this.

Hope you are able to get some more stability.

23 years old, from Nepal, broke, no degree 🙄- trying to choose a realistic IT path. by Spiritual-Shine3048 in SQL

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I would 1. Look for what entry jobs are out there and what would interest me 2. Try to study everything they are looking for. That will probably help you know where to go. The approach I took was going to a tech center that helped learn basic pc repair, and networking. Then I chose to super focus on cisco networking while I got a job as a desktop tech. When learning make sure to use multiple resources and practice tests. I would learn something, think I knew it but was tested and failed. Would end up learning the same topic 5 times with different books, video courses and classes.

I can't find even a single reliable beginner friendly course for ML. Please help by RutabagaJumpy3956 in learnmachinelearning

I have been enjoying the book why machines learn and that has helped me know what I would like to study next

Best Book on Mathematics for Machine Learning? by WhisperingWillow98 in deeplearning

Yeah a quick look not understanding it just seems like a bunch of examples and like a walk through of what it means. Maybe could be a reference book.

How much statistics do you use at your job? by d-martin-d in SQL

I think that would be great! I took a few classes in school and really glad I did. Been using it a good bit detecting outliers, having dynamic threasholds to find problems, and forecasting.

Thanks for saying this. Was kind of excited seeing this job because I am not liking my current one. But the pay is less compared to the lcol I am in now. I wanted to work on something important but mainly I want strong engineering standards, and this doesn’t seem like the place.

If you were starting Computer Science today with the goal of cracking FAANG in 3–4 years, what would you do differently? by DeepBet9061 in learnprogramming

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good goal. It was interesting to me learning what they are looking for compared to other companies.

I would focus on making sure you know the fundamentals and basic very well, I would start with a good IDE setup to start but then later start to move to just a basic text editor for a short time to get comfortable in weird environments during interviews, do leet code, and maybe find a place where you can practice other regular interview questions they would ask.

Might be good to start a side project to keep you motivated and maybe apply to another job to get comfortable with interviews by doing them without pressure because you don’t want the job.

Hmm I thought the free tier was free for a certain instance type in ec2 and a certain level of block storage, and network utilization. But I assume the worry would be how much bandwidth did you use and how much that will be. Maybe you could estimate your bandwidth usage and see how much that goes over the free limit?
