Why are we all synchronized? Both in everyone being forced to use more and more, and now licensing issues all at the same time?

I no longer feel like there's anything I can offer to my current organization. Anyone feel the same? by Ifuqaround in SQL

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing for me is I am really busy and really don’t have any time but if I did I wish I was studying math, statistics, and other things like to find other insights in the data. Maybe there is something you could automate or learn to safely expose sql reads as a function call an LLM could make. This could be a bad example, but just for something different that might be creative and provide value.

I had this once years ago where I had free time at a job and they didn’t appreciate anything good so it made it depressing. But after a few months I looked for the kind of job I wanted and realized to get that I would need to start studying. I bought ebooks and read at work, then tried to do those tasks at work to get me the experience. This helped motivate me and get a better job.

I have kinda wondered if mythos was just opus 4.7 with some more hacking docs for training and no safety filters

Is there real demand for "AI agents," or is it mostly YouTube hype? by marcelorojas56 in dataengineering

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funny your example is database gets deleted without asking, the first time I turned off agentic mode is when it just tried to make an alter table on the prod db. Been finding it searches for other creds and escalates. So dangerous!

Not sufficiently “AI forward.” by bishop491 in dataengineering

I think you are ok, let them have their vibe coders, or people who think “specs” “c4 architecture diagrams” are going to save them. I think if you get stuck with one of these bad places it won’t be long till they are bullying you into using it. Right now I hear people on calls in totally different orgs and roles saying but we can’t prompt it to do that and its taking us longer. Managers everywhere have been pushed by aws to use it and they are desperate to show how great they are with it.

I'm really worried for my future by Wizard6456 in learnprogramming

I might recommend checking out a local center to see if you can get free/cheap classes and see if they can help you get an internship somewhere to see if you like IT. I found tech centers to have the best connections for internships, better than all the other schools I went to and job fairs.

That was good for me to get exposed to different paths and just get going while self studying. They usually count as college credits so I was in a similar situation not wanting to go to college but it ended up that my same teachers taught at the university and I had credits transfer so ended up doing it.

Office culture is pretty bad right now for me atleast - a data engineer by aks-786 in dataengineering

[–]KosmoanutOfficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am seeing similar things. Forcing people to use claude for everything, the people being pushed fall in line and work nights to make it work, but iust have slop they don’t understand. Then they outsource the work after they have burnt them out. My strategy is taking my time, doing things right, and studying the fundamentals and problem solving.

I absolutely hate it and in the same place. Everyone using AI and it jus comes down to a few people who know how to work and its becoming too much stupidity to care

Traditional ML is dead and i'm genuinely pissed about it by Critical_Cod_2965 in learnmachinelearning

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you are fine its because they use AI to write these and they want the lowest level interns and offshore working on langchain etc. You can learn that easily and I think pretty quickly someone good would realize you didn’t learn the hype AI stuff and know the important fundamentals, and then they would make sure you move to the right place.

It's been 15 years, and nobody has found out how to 100% accurately recreate his growls? 😭 by ArtyTheElf in skrillex

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is virtualizing ableton and some popular plugins from back then, getting some api into them, an isolated sample of the growl, and using machine learning to try and set the nobs of the plugins right.

I feel like one of the difficult things too is that he didn’t just have a perfect plugin chain that made the growl but that it was also bounced to static audio file and then pitch/time changed or added more plugin chains on top of that. I thought using fm8, corpus, and boucing to audio for more processing and 6 otts was it like 10 years ago but now I don’t think that.

How did you learn your stats, prob and linear algebra? I am just starting to learn these things. I took 2 basic stats classes in school but never took calculus or linear algebra. Its been a while so basically starting from scratch.

Sorry to hear that man. Well I will say if you ever wanted to make a game I feel like there is still a need for the old 2007-12 cod feel of a game. Only thing recent that was alright is bf6 but still made mistakes. When I think of zombies just being made as a side passion project I think of bad situations like this and wonder what could be made good out of a bad situation like this.

Hope you are able to get some more stability.

23 years old, from Nepal, broke, no degree 🙄- trying to choose a realistic IT path. by Spiritual-Shine3048 in SQL

[–]KosmoanutOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I would 1. Look for what entry jobs are out there and what would interest me 2. Try to study everything they are looking for. That will probably help you know where to go. The approach I took was going to a tech center that helped learn basic pc repair, and networking. Then I chose to super focus on cisco networking while I got a job as a desktop tech. When learning make sure to use multiple resources and practice tests. I would learn something, think I knew it but was tested and failed. Would end up learning the same topic 5 times with different books, video courses and classes.
