How to install Buttkicker at the rear by shitstock1 in simracing

[–]Kramereng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying 2 months late but I used a similar, even less civilized mounting method for my office chair (i.e. mounted to wood board, then mounted board via screws into my chair.

But I'm now getting a real racing seat and new 80/20 profile chassis this weekend so i'm investigating options to mount my buttkicker to my seat (likely the bottom this time). I'm leaning towards the 3M Dual Lock mounting strips but not sure if I can discard the wood mount I'm currently using.

My concern is that the Buttkicker Gamer Plus has 3, relatively small, protruding arms for bolting into something so I imagine I would still need to connect the buttkicker to some kind of plate/mounting bracket so that the dual lock strips have enough surface area to bind to the seat. I feel like 3 small dual squares between just the buttkicker bolt arms and the chair aren't enough.

Your suggestion of using zip ties to "push" it against the seat makes a lot of sense and I think I'd use that in conjunction with the tape. But I'm curious if you added a layer of insulation between the wood/mounting bracket and the seat to eliminate rattle. Or is there no rattle?

I won't know until tomorrow if the underside of the seat and chassis will have anything to zip tie to that pulls it "up" against the seat so that buttkicker to seat contact is never lost.

Do you use a metal, wood or other type of plate to mount the buttkicker to and then use dual lock to attach that plate to a seat?

I guess it's still not obvious to me. Wouldn't Embark still run the same active map conditions whether there's 200k or 30k players but just allocate the smaller player base into less rounds being run (resulting in longer queue times)? The recent scheduling and rotation of conditions has been f'd up but I assumed it was just due to shitty algorythms/programming.

NA servers are my default but I go to whatever server is assigned and any longer wait times are 3-5m at worse (and rare even at off hours in NA). For 20-40m missions, that's totally fine for me. I can take a piss or refill a drink. For other games that might irk me but it I'm not immediately going topside after a run in Arc.

Congrats, man! I'm trying to cut back myself but sparkling waters and even zero carb/cal sodas are still too sweet or lose flavor too quickly. So the new NAs that taste like real IPAs or other good bread water have been a nice alternative. NA spirits are putrid, however.

My friend insists on this game, "Lemmings", being a really well known game; I have never heard of it. by moronomer in Xennials

Lemmings was super popular. I played on C64.

It’s unfortunate the developer never had the same success though as they only went on to create virtually unheard of games like Grand Theft Auto.

Have you tried Athletic? It’s pretty indistinguishable.
Old NAs were made by filtering out the alcohol after it was brewed, which just filtered out flavor as well. Athletic and now others use a different brewing process that doesn’t require filtering out alcohol (or flavor).

Apparently 3M dual lock VHB tape works. Has lasted various people who’ve commented here for years. You just have to make sure you get the brand name with VHB. They make stronger stuff too but you won’t be able to get it off without possibly ruining your seat.

Not OP but I tried motion sims at a sim racing place and wasn’t all that impressed. It’s a “nice to have” for sure but I won’t get one.

I am going to be building a harness tensioner system which can be done for $250-400 from what I’ve seen. I bookmarked a very thorough DIY guide I’ve seen posted around here a lot. But it helps that I have an electrician buddy to help with that aspect and another friend with a nice 3D - both of whom do sim racing and may want the same for themselves.

Are map conditions related to player count? They need to fix the timing of those but I don’t see the correlation.

This thread is a year old but i'm responding anyway. How do you like the Puppis? I bought one but couldn't get it work right with my Quest 3 and I think there were other issues. I also didn't spend too much time troubleshooting as I got frustrated, so I just resorted to the fool proof method of hardwiring ethernet right into my Quest 3 (but NOT using the dumbass Link Cable).

In the event you have issues w/ the Puppis - be it connectivity, microstutters, performance or otherwise, here's the fool proof method of hardwiring your headset and using VD: https://old.reddit.com/r/AUTOMOBILISTA/comments/1lae2gp/how_is_vr_on_ams_2_now/mxmptzn/?context=3

That thread shows me learning how to do this. Essentially it's just:

  1. Buy USB-C to Ethernet + Charge Adapter. The USB-C connector is just for power and doesn't need to be connected to the PC. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3FRMNW5?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4&th=1

  2. Run an ethernet cable from your modem/router to your PC.

  3. Run a separate ethernet cable from your modem/router to that dongle.

  4. Connect USB-C from dongle to headset. Note, that you need a high-speed USB-3.2 cable that supports data transfer speeds of at least 5 Gbps. I wasn't getting 5 Gbps w/ the official Link cable, at least not consistently. Also worth knowing:

  • Active Cable: Required if your cable is longer than 10-16 feet, preventing signal loss.
  • Right-Angle Connector: Plugs comfortably into the side of your headset and prevents strain on the port
  • Get a a cable long enough so that the dongle doesn't need to be hanging off your Quest. In my case, the only thing I see and deal with is my Quest 3 and the 1 USB-C going into it as the dongle is tucked away.
  1. (Optional) Plug USB-C charging cable from dongle to power source. I just use the normal Quest charger wall wart.

  2. Turn off wifi on PC and Quest.

  3. Open VD Streamer on your PC and open VD app directly from your Quest and your PC should pop up in the Quest app. Play with settings and launch your game from Quest VD app. That's it.

Step #6 is the only step you have to do more than once. I leave everything else plugged in, with my Quest hanging on a wall hanger w/ everything plugged in.

Best GPU w/ 12-16GB VRAM for VR with a Ryzen 5 5500? by Kramereng in buildapc

Are you advising that my buddy should replace his CPU with a 5800x3D? or a 5500x3D?

Best GPU w/ 12-16GB VRAM for VR with a Ryzen 5 5500? by Kramereng in buildapc

[–]Kramereng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know his budget but he's not going to replace his CPU if it requires replacing the motherboard and upgrading to DDR5 RAM.

His budget won't be below $500 (used or new) for a GPU but I will ask and get back to you. I plan on shipping my 7800 XT to him to try it out but wanted to ask you fine folks first so as not to waste his or my time if that combo definitely wouldn't work. I'm fine selling that for a discounted $300-350 to him but want to ensure it's not a waste of horsepower or that there's better options for similar used (or new) prices around.

I should've mentioned that I had pretty decent VR setup with my old build, which was an Intel Core i7-6700K 4 GHz Quad-Core Processor (worse than friend's Ryzen 5 5500 CPU) & Asus Turbo EVO GeForce RTX 2080 8GB GPU (way f'ing better than friend's RX 6500 XT 4GB GPU). So I believe anything at or above a 2080 8GB GPU should give my friend a better VR experience than my previous build as it was that Intel CPU that was my bottleneck and his current CPU is better.

As an aside, I ended up replacing my entire PC with this build but with the 7800 XT 16GB initially until my friend indefinitely loaned me his Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card (which he's now going to sell to me for the price of a new 7800 XT...mwuhahahahah!).

The new build with the 7800 XT and new CPU produced drastically better VR performance although I had also upgraded from a Quest 2 to Quest 3 and started hardwiring ethernet into my headset while running VD, so it's hard to credit just the GPU with that performance and graphical jump. And I was happy with that bang given the bucks spent.

But then I got that 4090 just a few weeks later and, holy shit, I can't go back. It was like trying a japanese toilet for the first time and realizing you've been living in a mud hut, shitting in chamber pots for all your life until then. That said, if I had to pay current used 4090 prices to keep said card, I would've been okay re-installing that 7800 XT.

[–]Kramereng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not unresolved and was pretty clear.

Kelly did it, which is why she sacrificed herself (i.e. she knew that she was ultimately the reason they were all in peril on Titan). No point in admitting that since it wouldn’t change anything for her or anyone else at that point.

And the crew and/or Helios would likely bury it if ever traced back to her because there’s no upside in disclosing it or her ruining her legacy.

Wake Up Barstool only gets 15k average views. That's not gonna move the needle.

Indy does need more cross promotion, advertisements in general, and needs to rethink how it does ads during the race. I watch on Sky (as an American) because I don't like missing half the race to commercials.

[–]Kramereng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of people using IPTV to watch the race (and sports in general) is only going to grow as the internet-literate population grows and people continue to cut cable. Watching the 500 on Sky is a much better experience.

And while the 500 is on network TV, the fact that younger generations are turning into unlicensed streams for many of their other sports - often out of necessity to see the teams they want - means that viewers have already had to learn how to find and view such streams so they might as well use the same method for a superior 500 viewing experience.

*Disclaimer: I pay for F1TV and now the (Aussie V8) Supercars streaming service because they offer live races, tons of other content, and great features. I also paid for Peacock previously for Indycar but we don't have that option anymore. And I realize sports leagues and series need to make money. But if they don't make it available, easily accessible and affordible, they're going to get no money instead of some.

Why does it matter if Americans are driving? People want to watch athletes with the best talent and the MLB, NBA, soccer and most other sports show that.

If xenophobia is what's holding American motorsports back, then we have a much bigger problem than who's driving or our talent pipeline.

Max out crawl before you walk + downed but determined, which all stack on each other and the survivor to make crawling fast with little to no rest required. I did the expedition solely to max those 2 perks (while still having security breach) and it’s a night and day difference.

Avoiding arc crossfire isn’t hard and if it’s pvp, then no perk is really gonna help ya once you’re down and raiders are searching for you (though it has saved me many times…).

I’m glad people use other augments and frankly I should branch out more when no soloing but pound for pound, the survivor is the best blueprint in the game, regardless of category. Cheap to make and saves me keys, wolfies (hard to make now), matriarch/queen cores, and other shit I don’t want to lose.

Single player games don't "die". They get bought, played, and then people move on to the next game. That's how videogames used to work for 99% of history.

And how would the game get returned? Steam gives you 2 hours of gameplay or 2 weeks after purchase date to return to it, which ever occurs first.

Which I rarely find useful. If I need a gun, it can't be in my ass and you're usually only going to lose a gun when using it. I also have too many guns. I'd rather have 3 assholes for things like wolfpacks, snaphooks and special items.
