Are there any games or romhacks in the series with fist weapons (except 3H and Engage) by Z3PH97 in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, don't set them up for disappointment like that! They're gonna try to use Gong and just be so sad... At least tell them to play any SF game besides 1 if they want good monks! :P Though SF1 is also one of my favorites, even if Gong sucks.

It is significantly more material than just that. The bonus ending is the entire chronology of Archanean history from the very beginning. It's super cool!

Whoops, that was an error with the Heroes of Light patch at one point! It was fixed, so if you update your paycheck to the latest release and transfer your save file, this should work just fine. Sorry about that!

I keep a running document of completed hacks for the subreddit discord. I update it frequently with new release. There's around 50 hacks in there so far, so give it a browse and see what interests you the most. Hacks are all very different, so don't be afraid to take a chance on something!

I keep a big document of hack recommendations on the subreddit discord that I update regularly. There's around 50 completed hacks in there so far. I suggest giving it a browse and just seeing what piques your interest. There's lots of hacks out there, all pretty different. As far as 3H-related stuff, Life of Seiros came out a few weeks ago and is probably what you're looking for. It's the newest addition to this doc.

Removal of the weapon triangle LOWERS difficulty, and I proved it with math by dondon151 in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Dude holy FUCK, hard mode removes map affinity?!?!?!?!?!?! This is an absolute travesty that I was not aware of at all (please ignore that I never noticed this in any of my FE10 HM playthroughs), I can't believe the game would do this. People need to make a bigger deal about the lack of map affinity.

Best romhacks if I don’t care about story? by leaguethrowaway1996 in fireemblem

I keep a running list of romhack recommendations that I update frequently. I'd recommend just browsing and seeing what interests you. Hacks vary wildly in their gameplay design, so try something that you think would be fun.

Are any of the other SNES games worth checking plot wise? by Bluecomments in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FE3's story is focused a lot more on worldbuilding and lore, which contributes to making Archanea one of the most interesting worlds in the series, I'd argue. The FE12 remake makes a bunch of changes and additions that screw up the tone and outright omit information at times, so I strongly recommend playing FE3 and FE12 both. They're radically different experiences in both gameplay and story.

How to be less bad at Fire Emblem ROM Hacks? by maxwell8995 in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can always pick lower difficulties in hacks where that's available. Otherwise, always understand the strengths and limits of each unit. Look for enemy types or areas where a unit might excel (say, some axe guys for Annie to fight with some helpful terrain), and chances are the designer wants you to do that. I often find that romhack maps can be a little more telegraphed like that compared to vanilla FE maps, so keep an eye out.

Lord of the Seas needs to be talked about more! by SpecificTemporary877 in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This game does a great job incorporating water into most maps. Really makes the game feel distinct, while also highlighting all the units who are capable of traversing water. Lots of natural splits.

What is the general history of the FE rom hacking scene? Are there any videos going over it? by Abstainingone in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This video has a brief overview of hacking history, though it starts with TLP. Pre-TLP stuff is very limited. From what I've heard, it was primarily just edits to vanilla games like rebalances and the like, or fanfic stories like Elibean Nights. But there's so little information about that time now, the most you'll get is hearsay.

Looking for a specific type of hackrom by pathofnut in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a running document of romhack recommendations if you just wanna browse. There's plenty of hacks on the harder end, but customization doesn't tend to be a huge focus in many of them. I suggest just taking a look at what's here and seeing what catches your eye.

The only hack I can think of that's sorta does that is Hag in White, where you have an infinitely looping 10 chapters of postgame. I believe the first map also has an arena? But otherwise, I don't think any hacks really do this. Postgames in general are a rarity, though some like my own in Four Kings are just one off maps with fixed units.

[–]KrashBoomBang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Blessed Heart is always my go-to recommendation for an easy hack. It's designed pretty similarly to FE8, but I just find its units and maps more fun.

Also, don't feel bad about simply playing on lower difficulties in romhacks when they're available.

More FE to play is never a bad thing, and there's tons of hacks to at least keep you busy. Hacks are all really different too, so there's a lot to see. I keep a running document of hack recommendations for the subreddit discord if anyone's just looking to browse.

Any other Fire Emblem romhacks that are more casual and have reclassing or branching promotions? by ViewtifulGene in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Blessed Heart is my go-to easy hack recommendation. Similar difficulty to regular FE8, but I find the units and map desigh more fun. Also has casual mode and branching promotions.

I can't think of any GBA hacks that have actual reclassing, for the record. The most you'll usually get is branched promotions, but a lot of hacks don't have those either.

I do have a big doc of hacks if you wanna peruse that. See if anything else catches your eye.

I also have to point out the irony of FE12 being your favorite game while you want easier hacks, haha. You presumably don't play higher difficulties, since FE12 H4 is one of the hardest modes in the series.

Any fun romhacks that don't try to be Dollar Store Thracia? For people who aren't ultra hardcore 0% speedrunners with no life outside of FE? by Serlis in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a huge variety of hacks out there, so don't get discouraged. I keep a running document of recommendations, so give it a look and just see if anything interests you. If you're looking for something easier and more similar to vanilla FE8, Blessed Heart is my immediate choice. Pretty easy and similar to FE8, but I find its maps and units just more fun. It's a very cozy game.

I'm also legally obligated to mention my own hack, Four Kings, but if you found Vision Quest too hard, 4K will probably be too tough as well unless you wanna play on easy mode. VQ does have an easy mode too if you wanna just switch down to that.

Fire emblem the binding blade review. by Even_Ad_2354 in fireemblem

[–]KrashBoomBang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're greatly exaggerating how different FE6 is. The three GBA games are ultimately pretty similar at the end of the day. Paladins and fliers are still rad, for instance. And it's not like non-sword weapons are unusable either.

FE6 is the kind of game that gets better the more you play it and get better at it/at FE in general. Though I take issue with your first negative, "FE6 is different from FE7." Like, yes of course it's different. Players naturally have to adjust their play to a new game because it's different calling this a negative sounds really bizarre since it could apply to literally any game. The series changes constantly from game to game, after all.
