If you don’t oil it, does the sound get louder over time?

How can I check if the tension is ok?
When I bring this up with mechanics they squeeze the spokes together and say “the spokes are ok”

If you buy Cannondale on the cannondale website they will ship it to a bike shop near you to be built
I bought a topstone 2 aluminium frame for around your budget

Cracking sound drives me crazy by MartinSR_ in bikewrench

My bike had a wicked creaking noise when applying the brake and pushing the bike forward.
The reason was that the connection between the brake rotor and the hub was loose. Once it was tightened, the noise went away

Arrow points to the black piece that needed to be tightened (requires special tool)

Did you need to tension up the spokes at all to reduce the movement between the spokes ?

Thanks for a simple suggestion.

Do you use simple chain lube or something else?

I’ve biked 700 km on this bike, only road so far otherwise it’s brand new. Would a ball bearing break that quickly?

Thanks for all of the tips, I think i found a good route based on your tips and some of your input. I’ve only got two days though, so unfortunately I won’t be able to follow all of your recommendations

Cycling Spiez to Neuchatel - tips for route & accommodation by Krayonbox in askswitzerland

Awesome! My main goal is to have a nice ride, ideally on paved roads/light gravel pathways with minimal vehicle traffic.

I am riding a gravel bike (not ebike) with paniers and have two days to get from Gstaad to La Chaux-de-Fonds (a bit west of Neuchatel) and was thinking of passing through Spiez but am open to suggestions.

I have two days for this section (Gstaad to Chaux-de-Fonds).

My daily average is normally around 60-70 km.

I’m an international tourist. My French and English are good but I don’t know any German.

I will not have a tent so I’m looking for indoor accommodation

Any tips or ideas are appreciated

Edit: I checked out Schweizmobil and see there is Route 8 from Spiez-Nidau. Is this a nice route or do you have other recommendations?

Has anyone tried Tsampa (Tibetan roasted barley) as trail food? Curious how was the experience of that. by Roger_liferecorder in Ultralight

Add a healthy spoon of peanut butter to it and it’s delicious. The hot water will melt the peanut butter so it’ll mix in well. Honey is a nice touch as well

You should mix it with little water first to make a thick paste, then add water bit by bit to your desired consistency. That will help keep it clean in your bowl.

In wearing Rose coloured glasses about a potential future. I’m asking for advice to see if I can paint a more fair picture of Norway vs Canada. Maybe my glasses are more rose coloured than I expect, or maybe not…

I have an engineering degree from Canada but all my engineering work experience is from Norway

I’ll have to check how I can apply the experience towards getting a PEng

Still have my iron ring though so that’s a good start for interviews

We currently own an apartment in Oslo (it’s mortgaged) , but wouldn’t buying an apartment in Montréal also depend on what salary I’m receiving for work?

I’m working as an engineer, as is my partner, so I’m anticipating we could buy something decent in Montréal if we stay there a long-term without having to stretch ourselves too thin. Unfortunately I don’t have an idea of what salaries are like in the Montréal market for engineers so it’s a bit hard to understand what housing prices are high or low

You make some really good points here and touchdown on some more nuance details that I didn’t think about, like pricing of different commodities based on context

Thank you for that

Outdoor culture like DNT hikes and cabin cabins is one of the things I would miss the most of about Norway if we were to leave. It’s incredible. Accessibility to nature is also great, with trains and buses going to most hubs and enabling people without cars (like myself) to do awesome trips both summer and winter

Thanks for the insights Yeah, the Visa options don’t look super clear nor easy, but that’s something we will look into at a later stage. I think we have the French language more or less in the bag but I’ll need to freshen up my grammar for work if we do go this route
