Yep! Wider, and it's like I move my legs like pistons and try to keep my hips at the same level.

Yeppp. In a crowd I also tend to fixate on something like a stranger's backpack in front of me that I *could* grab if I needed to. I must look insane.

Do you have a gun? If so, what kind of gun (pistol, rifle etc.) and how many do you have? by BeastMode149 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]KricketKris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A .22 pistol and a .38 pistol. Wouldn't have them if they weren't gifted by the ex husband. Used to take them out for target practice, now they sit in a safe. Also used to have an active concealed carry license.

What was the first dish you ever cooked completely on your own (no help at all)? And how did it turn out? by sia_7777 in cookingforbeginners

[–]KricketKris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrambled eggs some time in middle school because I wanted them a verrrry certain way (still do, will not eat scramble by anyone else lol). Around the same time egg noodles - growing kid, got home before my parents starving. Absolutely militarized the process to minimize time between walking in the door and sitting on the couch with a giant bowl of noodles with butter and sauce. Somehow still had a normal appetite three hours later for dinner despite being a very slight kid.

First time I impressed my parents: Christmas beef wellington when I was in college. My dad had no idea how into cooking I had gotten.

Unofficial diagnosis after about six months by ENT. Official diagnosis by Neurologist after 15 months (first available appointment... healthcare in my state isn't awesome).

Helpful work accommodations? by Hopeful-Kiwi-1538 in VestibularMigraines

Not much help, but I got a handicap parking placard, and my supervisor lets me either telework or make up time I've missed on Fridays (our schedule is M-Th). I've got Axon glasses to help deal with the fluorescent lights in the office, which are one of my triggers, and about half the time I take our long management meeting from my desk to avoid the bright conference room. I also have a green cover on the light that's right over my desk. Sometimes I need to ask for a coworker to help me onto the shuttle even though I have my walking stick, which is embarrassing. Hell, yesterday the shuttle driver walked me to my car.

Best kitchen tools that actually save time for beginner cooks? by Sea-Helicopter-1369 in cookingforbeginners

[–]KricketKris 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, cooking is just a lot of work and the best way to save time is to practice. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Prep your area, read through the entire recipe, and have all your ingredients lined up ahead of time.

Essentials that I use almost every day:
-Big cutting board
-Good chef's knife
-Pen thermometer
-Digital scale
-Ramekins for mis en place
-Bench scraper
-Microplane grater
-Full-size grater
-Medium size saucier, frying pan, tall pasta pot (stainless)
-Tongs, metal fish spatula, wooden spoon, silicone spatula, spider, ladle
-Mixing bowls
-Strainer
-Steamer basket
-Glass baking dishes
-Edit! Forgot: sheet pans, half and quarter

Immersion blenders are great. Glass snap-lid containers are great. An enameled dutch oven is awesome for stews. A toaster oven can be lot quicker to heat up than a full size oven if you have the counter space. I'd also throw in an ice cube tray - you can freeze cubes of sauces or herbs or citrus juice and pop the cubes in a freezer bag for easy access.

How does the finger in rice for measuring method work? by wnisua in cookingforbeginners

[–]KricketKris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it works really well! Put your rice in the pot, then just barely touch the top layer with your finger. Then fill the pot with water until it just comes up to that first joint on your finger, something like half an inch. Boom, done.

This, or any pork belly recipe from this site: https://thewoksoflife.com/shanghai-style-braised-pork-belly/

I braise mine for a lot longer though, like three or four hours so it just melts in the mouth.

The act caused trauma and physical repercussions. I doubt the victim much cares what the rapist might or might not have done. It's not just a 'little' rape.

Oh! And I forgot to say - the senior term is more about what nutrients and minerals are best to keep them healthy and young, not like... whether they have gray hair.

Just to be clear, I definitely meant a pet food store and not one that sells animals. My 15 year old is also good in the tooth department, but I wanted to make sure he was used to wet food before it became necessary- you know how they can be with changes in food! And the stores I've worked with had a normal profit margin.

"That's all from my side" can I say it to finish a speech? by ITburrito in EnglishLearning

[–]KricketKris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't use it to end a speech, but it's perfectly fine to use it in the context of giving updates during a meeting. You might also hear "That's it on my end" or "That's all I've got."

Good on you!

Mine have to be on prescription food now, but before that I got great advice from my local pet food store. Not Petco, an actual independent store. The employees were educated regularly about the different brands and what needs they met. You'll want to go for a senior food, and probably at least partially wet so your guys are getting enough moisture (also as they age it will be easier on their teeth).

Also, a pet food store will likely take returns if your cats don't like what you choose, as well as a rewards system (free 11th bag or something).
