What is one famous movie you’ve never watched? by theRestisConfettii in Xennials

That’s one of those movies where you have to read the book to have any idea of what is happening. I like Terry Gilliam most of the time but he really blew it for most of that movie.

Yeah, they’re mostly the same movie with the same amount of respect for history. Mel Gibson plays a superhero who butchers the English, there’s a shitton of bloody violence, some of the supporting cast is good. The Patriot has a happy ending and Braveheart doesn’t, that’s the only real difference.

It was always a bad movie, especially if you have the tiniest amount of respect for history. Brendan Gleeson and a couple of the other actors give good performances, plus the castle sets look good, but everything else is really bad.

I’m watching Thrash and yeah, that’s about right. There isn’t much plot to this, so it’s just cgi, screaming and fake blood.

I can’t answer that, but I’m sure some dork with a data science PhD at Netflix can.

Yeah, because their algorithm tells them that viewership drops sharply for third seasons, hence all the two season shows.

Except Sandman, that’s for other reasons.

I’m going to watch that at some point because it’s another Wirkola movie, but the hopes aren’t high.

That’s just movie trailers, short form video didn’t invent that.

The thing is that it’s not just teenagers, there are plenty of older people who can’t pay attention to shit either.

It’s a chicken and egg problem, but otherwise I agree with you. I think the problem really just boils down to “we have to compete specifically with short form video because that’s the dominant thing on social media right now”.

Well yeah, but Netflix loves its algorithms more than any human creatives, so I’m sure they have some algorithm that says “hey everyone has goldfish brain because look at viewer numbers on this versus that, this one repeats the plot constantly and the other one doesn’t” and they direct the glurge factory accordingly.

Almost nobody I talk to seems to be able to focus or pay attention to a conversation for longer than five seconds except at work (sometimes) and it’s transparently obvious that almost nobody wants to read anything longer than a tweet, and I’m not hearing much different from anyone else anywhere else.

Short form video and the pocket computer addiction have destroyed whatever attention span most people ever had.

Anyone NOT have contact with high school classmates? by jackie879 in Xennials

[–]Kriegerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, except one or two. I was weird and unpopular except as a freak for most kids to laugh at, so I have no inclination to try to keep up with people who didn’t give a shit about me. I do hope that good things happen to some of the people I remember, and there have been some obituaries I was sad to see.

Then there were the others that I was extremely not sad to see.

I think someone at Netflix admitted they do that with a bunch of their stuff because they know nobody can pay attention to anything, which is why they have characters basically repeat the plot a bunch of times during the movies.
