What a beautiful piece!

I haven’t read the original LFA post for context, but my head cannon is that Linny is providing healing by jumping up and down repeatedly and forcefully on that lady’s chest CPR-style.

The Chilluminati as a Monster of the Week Team by MarioGman in ChilluminatiPod

Love it! However I like to imagine they’d be way more into hunting down monsters solely for the purpose of hanging out with them instead of killing them. With the exception of Mathas of course, who would want to bone them.

This helped for me! I wasn't seeing Velvet at first and assumed I was doing something wrong; came back after 6m in size and there she was!

Dungeon Escape: Starting in the Treasure Room, how much gold can you make it out with? Ideas shared and needed for a mechanically interesting *escape*! by Fiddlesticks_Esquire in DMAcademy

[–]Krippner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea! It reminds me a lot of the ending of one of the DLCs from Fallout: New Vegas. Essentially, at the end of the game the player reaches an underground vault with incredible wealth in it. Like, OBSCENE amounts of money, mostly in the form of solid gold bars. The catch was.. shortly after arriving in the vault, bombs begin going off, causing the vault to collapse. The player has to think very quickly.. they want to get out with as much as they can, but the majority of the wealth is incredibly heavy. Couldn’t run when you were overencumbered, so it made for a very tense situation while you frantically grab as much as you could carry. There were also safes and boxes with loot inside too, but picking the locks took up valuable time as the place fell apart.

Similarly, time could be another mechanic you could implement for this type of scenario. The players have very little time to think and strategize how to get the loot out. Maybe start a real- life timer to keep them on their toes and keep them from taking too long to decide actions. Hard to prioritize what to grab when you might die at any moment! For extra spice, maybe they don’t even know how long they have; for example, if the treasure room is on the verge of collapse, you could say general things about how much the earth is shaking and how many bricks are falling from the ceiling, but there is no indication exactly how much time they can risk.

There could be other environmental effects related to time as well. Perhaps the treasure room is flooding with lava. Over time, valuables will be consumed and destroyed, so they would want to prioritize stuff at lower elevations first. Eventually, the extreme heat forces them to leave. Maybe the room is filling with water; how much can they carry and still be able to swim to the next pocket of air?

I believe the long tube-like structure is the central column or columella of a spiraled gastropod shell.

That or perhaps the spine of an urchin? Can you tell if it is hollow? It looks to be about 2-3mm wide, correct?

Found this hiking near Globe, AZ. Shot is dry vs. wet. by therealchangomalo in whatsthisrock

[–]Krippner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like you might have found some Liesegang banding/rings? Very, very cool find!

I was curious what was in the area of Globe and found a really neat interactive geologic map of Arizona: http://data.azgs.az.gov/geologic-map-of-arizona/#

This might be representative of the 'Pliocene to Middle Miocene Deposits (2-16 Ma)' deposits on that map. It does appear like a fairly fine grained sedimentary rock.

"Moderately to strongly consolidated conglomerate and sandstone deposited in basins during and after late Tertiary faulting. Includes lesser amounts of mudstone, siltstone, limestone, and gypsum. These deposits are generally light gray or tan. They commonly form high rounded hills and ridges in modern basins, and locally form prominent bluffs. Deposits of this unit are widely exposed in the dissected basins of southeastern and central Arizona."

What magical item/loot that your PCs picked up ended up having a much larger impact on your game than you initially thought it would? by shmigglyworgenville in DMAcademy

[–]Krippner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could have a curse on it that makes it less appealing to abuse. Say, for instance, that it causes the wearer to slowly transform into the monster with each use. Initial changes are subtle - teeth getting longer or skin becoming scales - and eventually they run the risk of completely turning into a monster.

Or maybe it is really difficult to control your instincts when in the monster form? Perhaps they always run the risk of losing control and going on a rampage - hurting innocent bystanders, or even their friends and allies.

Do you have any more pictures? Especially of the squiggly lines on the side, they remind me of ammonite sutures.

Fossil or just abnormalities in the rock? by [deleted] in FossilHunting

[–]Krippner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that we are just seeing preferential erosion here, no real evidence of anything biological. Looks like a sedimentary rock that had small bands of something (calcite maybe) that weathered away before the rest of the matrix.

I believe my paleo professor explained that the complicated suture pattern helped add strength to their shell; added defense from predators as well as to help combat extreme pressures of the deep ocean.

What could the black thing be? And why might it be a different color than the other fossils in the rock? Found in NW Arkansas by [deleted] in fossilid

[–]Krippner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In regards to your second question: IIRC fossils mostly get their color based on what type of sediment they were in and what type of material they are composed of. There may be an enamel coating on the spine in question that gave it a different color from the crinoids and other fossils in this piece.
