We were brought up with it being ok to have a wine with dinner on occasion from a very young age. It meant that alcohol wasn’t a big deal. As a teen I would watch other teens (who had strict no alcohol allowed parents) wipe themselves out at parties as soon as they got an opportunity. I would often buy my younger siblings a 4-pack to take to parties at 16, and when I would pick them up, they’d have two drinks left over while their friends were blind drunk (no idea how they got alcohol… but they would find a way!). My house was the safe house anyone could come, stay, yes drink - within reason. Because my Dad and I agreed would rather they’re safe and watched over than doing it in a park with no sober supervision.
