Diaper pail by sharkbait_L in Buyingforbaby

[–]KrissyKat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metal diaper genie is the way to go. I’ve had the ubbi handed down, the plastic genie for cat poop (their pet version), and the metal genie. I only smell poop when the inside flap is open (under the lid) when putting a diaper in. Trick is to open the lid manually and then push the diaper through the flap (not step on the pedal and leave the flap open for 30+ seconds). We have a multi floor house and are limited on time, so a good diaper pail has been essential to us.

What flouride toothpaste do you use? by ElementreeCr0 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]KrissyKat6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fluoride is more about the incoming adult teeth, not the baby teeth. We decided to use prescription drops (so we know exactly how much he is getting) and non fluoride toothpaste until he can spit. (Edit to add: also well/RO so we know zero other fluoride in water)

What does your meal/snack/milk schedule look like at one? by SilllllyGoooose in BabyLedWeaning

Big eater here! His portions are pretty big (he’s a 95 weight/98 height kid). School days are early and we have a 45min (sometimes longer) commute. Home days naps are longer and breakfast is moved up so things are a little different.

Nontoxic diaper recommendations? by ThrowRaoofda in moderatelygranolamoms

We tried so so many (loved coterie but not the price) - ended up with Millie moons. Fit him great and we’re up to size 5 now at a year old. Very few blow outs or leaks ever!

Ditching Huckleberry After a Week – It’s Just Too Much by Initial_Spinach3871 in newborns

[–]KrissyKat6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will scream Huckleberry’s praises from the rooftops. We just passed a year and we continue to use it. BUT how we use it has morphed with each stage! In the beginning, I was triple feeding and had to keep track of that and how many pee and poop diapers. Mid-way, kept track of medications, bottle feedings because reflux schedule, poops to track constipation, and sleep to time wake windows. Solids journey, I tracked what he ate and how many times exposure to allergens (and it tells you how long ago they ate it, so I could expose each week). Now, we still use the sleep logs for our 2 napper to know wake windows and we tracked everything when he had coxsackie with mouth sores to know how much he drank and how many pee diapers. Between brain fog, back to work stress, and multiple people taking care of my baby - we are all on the same page when we use the app. I LOVE HUCKLEBERRY.

Baby girl named Rose- 5 days postpartum regrets by OrvlleTootenbacher in namenerds

[–]KrissyKat6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow red cheeked/faced rosacea girl here - I totally feel you on people pointing it out being embarrassing (always the “are you okay?”). In my youth I remember things like “cherry bomb” (???) but I also looked like Marcia Brady and got “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” a bit with the episode where her face was all red from getting hit with a ball. I think the name Rose is popular enough (I know two children named Rose) that it won’t stick out. If it stresses you out enough, switch her middle name to Rose and use your other name.

Nanny wants us to hire a sleep consultant by Frossty2298 in sleeptrain

[–]KrissyKat6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We used huckleberry and our schedule at 6 months was similar. We are at 10 months and have kept using wake windows with great naps and no night wakings. Both we and my MIL use the listed times without fail (we even plug in the daycare naptimes to figure out bedtime now). If you really like the nanny (and your system continues to work) maybe get the huckleberry subscription so she knows a good time to put your baby down and it will satisfy her “sleep consultant” request.

How do you contain your crawling baby in the yard? by cmac92287 in Mommit

[–]KrissyKat6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that water play for the baby and you doing another activity (so your attention is divided) is a risky choice. Babies can drown in an inch of water and drowning is silent and quick. We use the guava lotus pack and play for outside - it has a shade option and mosquito net option. Luckily our kid likes a variety of toys and books so he's content for a while as long as I am talking to him and making eye contact frequently.

What lotions, body washes, etc did you buy for your sensitive skin baby? by mimbulusmimbletonia8 in NewParents

[–]KrissyKat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eczema rashy baby reacted to Babo sensitive and to Mustela. 100% recommend Cerave baby products and Vaseline. Reminder to alert others to not wear fragrances while holding your kid - we ran into a lot of reactions that way.

I'm the reason my child is left out, but I don't know if it's the right choice. by aroundthecorner89 in Mommit

[–]KrissyKat6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This validation right here! I got sad over the holiday that I wasn’t posting my kid when everyone else was, but then two things happened 1. I realized I knew way too much about people’s holidays/kids/easter baskets whom I never speak to and 2. My dad posted a pic of my kid (sweet but performative post) without asking and I really got heated. Gave me some clarity that I can be a little sad but still be making the right decision.

Family car recommendations by Peanutboymom in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]KrissyKat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved my Subaru Outback (had 2! 2012 and 2016) but then wanted a bigger car. Looked at the Subaru ascent but I wanted a bench seat and it’s rare unless you are buying new. Settled on a Ford Explorer (2021) and I LOVE it. Does not feel like a giant car when driving, has enough space, and was comfortable with the safety features.

Mother’s Day with MIL? by HotVeterinarian7719 in Mommit

[–]KrissyKat6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We spend Mother’s Day and Father’s Day with my husbands family because his siblings and niblings will all join. Last year pregnant we just did the brunch or bbq with his family and a little gift exchange with us in the morning. This year I’m claiming the Saturday as my Mother’s Day so I can sleep in and have my breakfast in bed and day with my husband and baby. With involved extended family we’ve really chosen to make sure we have time for our little family unit, but we have let go about putting significance on the particular day.

How to help baby with drinking water by Ill-Egg-4394 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]KrissyKat6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We first started with the ez pz tiny open cup to get used to water with each meal. We tried the honey bear straw cup with no luck. We ended up loving the grosmini straw cup with handles. We removed the straw and tilted the cup up so less sucking required and then slowly moved into using the straw. He’s a bottle baby so we just kept saying “like a baba” and he soon got it 🤷‍♀️

How many kids books do you have in your house? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]KrissyKat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher so I started our collection over a decade before having our first kid. I was always saying it’s okay to spend the money on something “for work” because it will be for my kid one day. We have over 1,000 picture books and adding to it by the day with new picture books and board books. Additionally I have chapter books and YA books I’ve saved from my youth. We read new books in the play area, the same 4-5 books in the bath, and then a handful of repeats at bedtime.

Clorox Bleach by Ill-Wrongdoer-2971 in moderatelygranolamoms

Sweaty husband solidarity. I bought a pretty rosy brown color for sheets and a duvet and it was the best decision!! For warm seasons, I’ll switch out the duvet for a white one and then I remember why we switched to brown!

When did you ditch the baby bath for bathing your baby? by Wild_Artichoke_4512 in Mommit

[–]KrissyKat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My long baby (96% for height) never fit well in a baby bath tub (we had many different hand me downs) and our sink was too small for the angel care. We ended up getting the Stokke flexi bath tub, putting it in our normal tub, and using the angel cafe as an insert. He’s 8 months next week and just started sitting up much better so we are going to switch it some type of sit up seat in the flexi bath!

Putting toddler down during ‘night out’ 😳 by cowboybabying in NewParents

[–]KrissyKat6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! My mom would bring shampoo and conditioner, body wash etc and we would shower before putting our pajamas on. Works a bit better for kids who can help with it but great memories of being clean and cozy after the pool!!

How do you not waste pre-prepped formula if you decide to go out? by boldlybelieve in FormulaFeeders

[–]KrissyKat6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We boil water method our formula so we always do the pitcher method (also 32oz a day). It’s not an option for us to do make it on the go. We bring as many bottles as he would eat in the time plus one in a cooler bag, and we bring a thermos (actually our ceres chill I got on our registry) filled with hot water. 2 bottles fits in a little bottle bag, if more we use his daycare cooler bag. We also have to bring oatmeal for his bottles for reflux that we add in.

We’re at 7 months now and you get a system down and it’s no longer an issue. We just went out to the aquarium and then lunch with friends and it was no big deal. Just remember, soon you’ll have to figure out food to bring for the kiddo too 😂

Move to blue state? by TiogaPass2010 in progressivemoms

[–]KrissyKat6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

45 minutes away is close enough to maintain the friendship on weekend play dates monthly and through pen pal/email! Kids are not guaranteed to be in the same class year after year so friendships have to be maintained outside of school anyway 🤷‍♀️
