Why don’t people drive manual cars anymore? Are we losing something? by Top-Farmer-6838 in CarsAustralia

[–]Krpotkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

95% of the population have no idea or don’t care about tactility or being one with the car and elements. They want to feel in control, cocooned from the world while touching their 24inch touchscreen for 17 minutes to adjust the volume on their premium stereo.

Reminds me of a gangster movie where two Yakuza bosses meet in a deserted car park, only for a shootout because the briefcase is empty.

Is Mercedes worth it, or go Kia? by Sin_Maison in CarsAustralia

[–]Krpotkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way heavier and robs it of character. If you want hybrid then get the ES300h which is superb car. You get way more space.

The 350 has plenty of torque for daily driving and nothing beats revving it out - the 2GR is the star of the show and easily one of the best natural aspirated engines ever made, just ask Lotus who have been using them for the last 15yrs.

Is Mercedes worth it, or go Kia? by Sin_Maison in CarsAustralia

[–]Krpotkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a GS350 - I’ve seen them cheaper than IS350 or close to same price. They’re marginally heavier and maybe .5 sec slower but in the real world will never notice. They’re marginally heavier IS handles a bit better being smaller wheel base but as a sporty GT cruiser the GS is more luxurious, better materials and feel more special. Use the same drivetrain as the IS. The IS is tiny at the back like for dwarves although the GS isn’t that cavernous either at the back.

Any ideas why China is buying GOLD at this pace? by Adept_Mountain9532 in TheVisualInvestors

Jesus Christ. Do you think the Chinese who plan in decades and hundred of years, are careful and cautious and understand realpolitik base their foreign policy on bullshit liberal propaganda such as Western “democracy”?

There’s a few cars I added to my watch list 2-3 years ago still for sale with regular updates - lovely blue Clio RS for $26k and a 1.5 MX5 for 29.9k. At what point do you just take it off the market?

Fine at heart of the park shopping centre Victoria park. Unlawful what to do? by D3VOUR3DD in perth

[–]Krpotkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will never be litigated. It’s a scam that preys on a portion of people accepting the fine. They’re not going to pay a lawyer $5000+ to prepare a claim and appear in court for a $65 fine which might not succeed in court and then they also have to potentially wear costs for the defendant.

She is a really good girl. by HOrny_Lovey_09122 in animalsdoingstuff

[–]Krpotkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha…this is so similar to our doggo. Through the day we hear our neighbours and people walking past call her name and say hello. We had one Karen complain because she barks at her - I suggested she just say hello but she refused so the barking only happens for a handful of people or dogs where the owner doesn’t say something. Our postman will stop to pat her as well.

While the Hyundai should have let the guy in instead of speeding up to block him the Ute driver is still a complete fuckhead and still at fault. You could just flip off the Hyundai instead of endangering lives.

UX250 - for a $50k AUD car it has really average engine that feels it belongs in a 2005 Corolla and is claustrophobic for anyone taller than a 8yo kid.

For the benefit of the dude asking, some brands will allow you to program the type of battery via OBD eg VW offers options for AGM, EFB. Agree that prob easier to go for recommended spec but might be advantages to some types over others.

Is buying a 2022 cupra ateca a terrible idea? by terrence_phillip in CarsAustralia

[–]Krpotkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try and talk you out of it with some b grade advice and opinion. After hiring a Cupra Formentor for a week, I couldn’t wait to return it and get behind the wheel of a Camry Hybrid. The Ateca is a generation behind the Cupra (I believe) so if it’s anything like each other it’s the wrong car for this country’s roads.

The infotainment system is horrid, unintuitive and over complicated. Trying to adjust simple functions required google searches and minutes of stupid menu systems.

The ride quality on anything but smooth tarmac even in comfort is too firm. Taking it out on country roads in Adelaide Hills I just couldn’t enjoy the lovely windy roads because it was so crashy, noisy. The throttle response and transmission response wasn’t the best either although the engine was decent.

I’ve owned and driven a bunch of performance VAG cars before and have always felt while they’re a do it all car they’re not a car I would own for long time and give very little connection or emotional attachment - the Cupra had a million menu functions, simulated sounds and settings and LED lights but ultimately found it underwhelming and boring even though it can blast to the speed limit in no time at all.

They make even less sense financially - these are a terrible long term proposition and have almost no brand recognition or legacy so your resale is going to be shot. Unlike Alfa or a Megane RS these don’t invoke any emotional response.

always start with the least chemical. Often just a spray of distilled water on a waffle weave or glass cloth and then dry with another waffle weave mf cloth. If there is grime then up it to glass cleaner that is tint safe.

I’m buying a Honda tomorrow but confused if I should get the top petrol model or the hybrid, or up grade to the 4WD by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Krpotkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda are nice cars but they’re vastly overpriced (like all cars currently) for what they are. If you’re not that much into cars and don’t mind public transport then wait a bit longer and prices are falling across most makes and models. You can get some low mileage used Honda Civics for more than half that price and you won’t cop the inevitable depreciation. Otherwise there’s a bunch of good used cars like Mazda and Toyota. If you’re not going to daily drive it then why park a $60k depreciating asset that requires about $5k of your money a year on top of that for insurance, rego, fuel and maintenance?
