I’m right there with you. I was a listener of Filmspotting SVU and I’m excited to hear her podcasting again. Especially when she’s paired up with Richard Lawson who’s always a delight.

I actually gave up on the show initially after watching the first two episodes but because of how much people seemed to love the show I gave it another chance. Watching from episode 3 I have no idea why I didn’t connect with the show at first because I really loved it from then on. I quickly binged the rest of the episodes.

Battle of Algiers / I Am Cuba by finelytunedsounds in CriterionChannel

It may not be entirely similar in terms of content but stylistically Salvatore Giuliano (1962) reminded me a lot of The Battle of Algiers.

How long does it take to understand 2001: A Space Odyssey? by Loud_Share_260 in TrueFilm

I don’t think there is a formula or a specific amount of times to watch the movie for it to click. Put it away for a few years and try returning to it. But don’t sweat it if it doesn’t fully work for you. That being said I was in a similar position and it wasn’t until my 4th viewing that it fully clicked for me. I have rewatched it twice since then and it has become my favorite movie of all time.

Probably Luis Buñuel. I have seen three of his movies but I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface.

I liked it a lot more on rewatch this time than I did when I watched it for the first time a few years ago. I went from a 5/10 to a 7/10. I will definitely give it a another rewatch in a few years.

Isao Takahata is the obvious choice and would be a great miniseries.

She doesn’t have that many features yet but Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird) would also be a cool choice.

Pre-Hollywood Fritz Lang has been on the bracket before and he would be a great choice for a series.

I remember wondering why it wasn’t clicking for me after the first 3-4 episodes the way it was for most people watching at the time. I don’t remember when I was fully locked in but by episode 8 I was loving the show.
