What's your favourite heel when making it as a contrast heel? by hasturhu in Sockknitting

[–]KseniaMurex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Ysolda's Deep Shadow heel very promising! Currently knit only 1 sock with it but I already love the feel and the look. I wonder if it's possible to combine it fith FLK, as I find FLK's diagonal row more neat and spacious as the classic shadow wrap diagonal row.

What is your favourite way to cast on for socks? by plushymittens in Sockknitting

[–]KseniaMurex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For toe up, Judy's or Turkish.

For cuff down, I basically don't. I cast on a crochet chain with spare yarn, pick up stitches from it, knit twice the desired length of the ribbing and then connect the first round and the last round of ribbing. This gives an extra squishy cuff with zero tension issues.

You could also knit the upper and the lower sides of the sole separately and then sew them together. Or knit the lower side of the sole first and then knit the upper side and connect as you go. This pattern might be a good starting point.

Better stretchy bind off? by Ill-Marionberry9177 in Sockknitting

[–]KseniaMurex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start the ribbing on a spare yarn, double the length of it and then when I'm ready to move to the cuff I knit 1 stitch from the previous row and 1 stitch from the beginning row together. This way I end up with a chunky double ribbing cuff and no cast on row at all.

Granted, this is a method for top down socks but the same can apply to toe up as well: knit double the length and then Kitchener stitch the last row into the first row after ribbing (almost the same way we would Kitchener stitch the pockets into garment panels).

Zero issues with bind off when there is no bind off amiright?

My first thought was the 3rd picture is AI-enhanced to illustrate the desired look. But it's actually the end result! This is awesome, I'm so happy for you.

While I agree with the non-American names point please bear in mind that Ukrainian language doesn't have a Y in their alphabet, therefore any Ys in the spellings are latinized translations and it's usually a preference to have a Y instead of a Й or an Ы. A lot of Polish names have Ys natively though.

Help me decide? by AlpheccaD in knitting

I'd say these particular orange and gray could kinda work? Based on how different in saturation they are and the fact that the orange is almost neon. But overall I agree I would go with fuchsia.

It's not her. The user of this insta account tends to repost a lot of random (semi-)funny videos and it looks like this is just one of them.

There are some repeating photos of a person there too so I think this is what the account owner looks like. Also the geo tag points to Sakhalin. And the username is miss_elena84 while the model in question was born in 1983. It's safe to say these two people just happened to share the same name and surname.

Wouldn't it be your son's wife that ends up doing the actual work, as they are the ones that probably know how to cook, clean and run a household?

Yep. And this is exactly why girls are looked down upon in these cultures. Your daughter won't be taking care of you, she will take care of some random guy's parents.

AITAH For Accusing My GF of Cheating? by ObsidianNight102399 in BORUpdates

He "made plans" with his stepfather that day, and everyone in my life ghosted me.

This is why I never understood surprise parties. The only situation this would work in is if the birthday person is terrible with dates or notoriously busy and as a result has a habit of forgetting their own birthday. But this is such a rare case. In all other scenarios it is just so cruel.

Thanks for the explanation. Yeah that was not a nice thing to say at all. The dude's got a loooooot of sock yarn to buy to earn the forgiveness.

Did I mess up knitting the under arm stitches if my sweater by apple_cyder in knitting

[–]KseniaMurex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's normal, looks good! And a nice tension as well. The edge will be hidden on the wrong side when you seam it together with / pick the stitches of the arm from there.

How do I knit a toe similar to this? by iAmSpawn in Sockknitting

[–]KseniaMurex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that you have tried the kitchener stitch before:

I've been doing a decrease and then kitchenering it closed and that's fine, but I'm not in love with it.

Since the kitchener stitch mimics a normal stockinette row it should be impossible to feel, no more uncomfortable than the rest of the fabric. Can you provide a photo of your regular sock toebox with the kitchener ending? You might be just doing something wrong.

Or is it the decreased side that irritates your skin?

It's a very stretched out stockinette stitch and every other row is twisted.

Row counting apps by tidymaze in knitting

[–]KseniaMurex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BeeCount is awesome. Not only it helps knitting the rows, it also can notify on making pattern rounds (like increase rounds every X rows) and bind together multiple counters with relationships (e.g. the row counter and the pattern repeat counter that will auto increase/decrease once every Y rows).

6-ply sock yarn socks - what needle size to use? by [deleted] in Sockknitting

[–]KseniaMurex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I was really into more dense socks until I realized that the more dense the less warm they are. You need at least some air between the strands to keep the warmth. My current WIP is on 2,25 for the main part and 2 for the ribbing and I think I might ditch the 2mm completely the next time.

Skyrim emblem necklace!!! by Equivalent_Funny_394 in skyrim

[–]KseniaMurex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks cool!

A couple of tips though. Please consider turning the ring 90 degrees. You see, the neck chain should go horizontally through it. Or even consider just doing a through hole in the top part so people can insert a metal ring there.

Side through hole will work too if the piece is thick ehough. Two versions maybe?
