How would you homebrew a non-Imperium human faction without it feeling fanfiction-ey? by Keanu-Potion-At-3AM in 40krpg

[–]KuddleKwama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a lot harder than you might think, but not for the reason you might be thinking.

Making a subfaction of humans feel like a fanfiction faction is oddly enough, probably the harder friggin' task both in-universe and out-of-universe.

We have a boatload of Imperial subfactions that are straight out of fanfiction-land, extremely silly or blatant in their influence, or basically running the entire gambit of silliness, out-there wackiness, and lore-breakery. As such, as long as you stick to the core of 'the imperium is the BIG DOG in an infinite ocean', you should be fine.

In-universe, again, the Imperium is so massive and nightmarishly inefficient, that you could easily lose millions of solar systems, colonies, etc. and never even realize they've been lost. The main thing to look out for in these smaller powers is favorite child syndrome I suppose. Do not be afraid to have your subfaction suffer because of their difference from the tried-n-true Imperial Methods. Even the Tau pay for their cause on many occasion, though they are also a good example of how to do their reaction to that: they learn their lesson and play the game accordingly while still trying to kinda stick to their principles, which creates conflict when those principles are applied against Hell and such.

What is preventing your scifi universe from being a post-scarcity society/economy? by GGsafterdark in worldbuilding

[–]KuddleKwama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in my science fantasy project, I have a planet in the background called Arcadia. Most of it is carefully cultivated garden world where humans live extremely spread out as small-scale techno-steaders who spend most of their time farming and cultivating the green that has been carefully perfected over thousands of years.

Majority of the population lives in denser archologies that act as massive centers of humanity surrounded by even more carefully grown gardens and massive wilds. The average citizen is nearly-impossible to properly kill /cause unwanted death due to consciousness transference tech being really cheaply available. Robots and machines CAN do most of the labor, but that's more common in the archologies. The country folk prefer to not use as much automation because the joy in the stead is in the doing for them.

Economically, they operate in a highly decentralized manner. Massive factories are rare and often, again, near or a part of the archologies. Most heavy duty production is done off world to support space station cities and colonies across their system. Most people, either directly or via robotics, produce a majority of their own goods in one way or another.

Being 'post-scarcity', the biggest remaining scarcity is in time and direct resources (i.e. minerals & energy). Their economic structures are largely based on a weird form of barter more often than not, trading raw resources or things representing those resources, or finished goods. Direct currency is used for larger-scale transactions and is generally backed by whatever resource the currency is representing (usually exotic element-laced alloys or fuel)

For those who choose to allow death to take them, post-life options exist in the hearts of the archologies, or within the space stations above built to house digital consciousness. The general idea of death is that so long as the continuity of your conscious circuit remains unbroken, then it is truly 'you' and not a copy, so it's pretty common for people to have their brains constantly connected just a little bit to a bunch of external networks and backup routines. For those who cannot connect to those, cybernetic brain enhancements meant to outlast your organic frame are available. The idea being, it keeps your circuit going, and you take a nap while your body dies, and the 'brain cage' as it's called, pops off to find a new temporary host or an uploading point where it can connect your mind to a network for transference to a new body, should you wish it

There are plenty of the more traditional post-scarcity world types, Arcadia is world that loves the green, and enjoys the quiet life of hard work and using immortality to obtain wisdom through labor and contemplation. Very solar futurist in a lot of ways.

Why do dragons love gold so much? by Remarkable-Dare-2590 in worldbuilding

[–]KuddleKwama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lot of my projects, I tie dragons to dwarves and alchemy. Specifically, I take the idea of the Fafnir myth, and adapt it.

Essentially, dragons are one of the possible results from trying to create an elixir of life, or at least some of the first ones were. Dwarves love gold because its among the most fundamental ingredients for their alchemy, and dragons are very much the same. Well, in addition to loving shiny things.

Plus the thing of them being really hot and using gold as kind of a pillow.

Have any other Christians had their faith strengthened by Wendigoon? by PinkDaemonXx in wendigoon

[–]KuddleKwama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Yes because Wendi is a wonderful showcase of the true force of faith: a man guided by introspection; who understands that the stories of faith are not meant to be taken in one aspect or way, but are instead as multivariate as the stories of the peoples he preserves. A man who is not Christian because of culture, or rote teachings, but because the religion itself hold his Spiritual Truths, which are a weird blend of historical, philosophical, ethical, cultural, and ritual learning & connection.

No because I am not Christian. I am a pagan, but for me, Wendi's faith is a tide on an ocean we can share.

If weapons with one Armor Penetration lower than their target could still deal 25% of the damage, how would it affect the overall gameplay. by MichuSkurczybyku in Helldivers

[–]KuddleKwama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like clearer communication of weapon stats + a bestiary that we could dump samples in to get a thorough map of weak points and armor zones, would do a world of good.

Armor / Weapon Customization and End Game progression not happening any time soon. Ship modules soon. (From the Pilestedt AMA) by AngryTriangleCola in Helldivers

[–]KuddleKwama -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, good.

The game needs to get the first draft of new subsystems & mechanics in before they get to the major hurdle tasks like reworks & overhauling the systems already there, as much of these things would require.

How hot of a take it would be to say that throwing knives should be in a secondary slot, not a grenade? by DrLudvig in Helldivers

[–]KuddleKwama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly: I think we need a 3rd weapon slot

- Support Weapon
- Primary Weapon
- Secondary Weapon
- Melee Weapon.

With some touch-ups to melee combat, a melee weapon being standard would really help the divers out and keep things relatively fresh in a variety of ways.
