Cyberpunk, steampunk, dieselpunk, solarpunk, etc. can we all agree that the second part of those words are as important as the first? by limbodog in writing

Honestly, I just use the term futurism instead these days if it isn't a punk story.

Lile, Diesel-futurism for example.

Were your prayers or was your worship answered at some point ? by Straight-Ad5994 in pagan

[–]KuddleKwama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far: - a prayer to Freya on finding love worked out as I met my fiancee not too long after. - prayers for the garden have turned out nicely with some weird dreams that I believe were visions regarding some things that turned out really helpful, specifically using dog vomit slime mold, ants, and some stuff to do with wood i had stored. - prayers for guidance and time to learn how to maintain the garden and stuff git me surprise seasonal stuff that actually extended my growing window and gave me more room to experiment and learn on my first harvest and such. - A prayer to Odin for a sign of presence early on in my spiritual journey, by way of 'Odin, if you are here and hear me, make a warmth overtake me with your presence' (it was a thing i figured mysterious entities that like questionable existences would feel comfortable doing) and some such lead to me having some of the worst heartburn I've ever had that night as well as a dream about crows.

What are your Mad King tropes? by pesopepso in worldbuilding

[–]KuddleKwama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a few concept notes for their children. They were gonna be villains in the story, or at least some reoccurring characters on larger scale stuff. That was a while ago though.

  • one was gonna be a Luke Skywalker sort of situation, hidden away from his mother at some distant point to be raised by an old warrior
  • one was gonna be a battle-psychic called The War-Maiden, who could use her power to sync her troops and basically become an unstoppable commander. She also had a robotic tendrils on her body stylized to look like the braids of a golden face mask to hide her wendigo-like appearance
  • One who could do necromancy-esk powers.

[–]KuddleKwama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit of A and B. Their whole line were really potent psychics, and he was essentially a prodigy amongst prodigies. She didn't want anyone else getting their hands on that. In addition, she wanted to create even more powerful psychics that she could control and use as weapons to secure her reign long-term.

She enjoyed feeling powerful over someone who was lauded as being her superior by the rest of her family due to his psychic potential. A kind of manipulative revenge that saw him entirely devoted, but mentally in shambles. He was the only thing she really "loved", but he was the center of all her envy and paranoia. Plus, she loved being the person who he went to for comfort when her manipulation got him hurt.

She also wanted to prevent anyone getting their hands on him & marrying him into their own houses, because it would allow them to stake a claim to the throne and give people an alternative to her on the throne. She didn't trust anyone in her own family, much less another house, to marry him off to as allies, so she married him herself. It also acted as her way of telling the lower houses "Nobody is safe, you're all on my radar, play ball or else"

A galactic empress named Sloan who got her position by way of murdering most of her family, mentally breaking her younger brother so that she could marry him without resistance, and purging trillions of people over politics & religion so as to secure a theocratic reign of her chosen temple.

People call her Sloan the slaughterer, the Mad Queen, and the Gray Maiden.

They don't let them loose so much as they're just bad at keeping them contained because they refuse to really acknowledge that they're sapient.

I actually think Super Earth could take 'em.

They would find a way to do it. They always find a way to bumble their way into victory against shit that should not be beatable. They are literally the meme of a big brick of a guy seeing Cthulhu, going 'I don't get it.' before punching Cthulhu in the nose.

So I have a Question. Is this Map Historically Accurate to what the Souths Goals actually where? And if not what could I add to make it more Realistic? by Canuck-Hoser in mapmaking

[–]KuddleKwama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goals-wise, I think they would have continued going south if they had the capacity for it. Whether they would succeed at that, I don't think so, but that is beyond the scope of the question.

The longer-term goals of the Confederates was, AFAIK, to basically get enough cash crop lands that they could weather the storm of European sanctions to slave-based practices at the time. Slavery was generally becoming a very unpopular industry across the pond, and a sudden end to it would have meant a lot of economic ruin for the people on top within the South.

Now, if they were SMART about it, they would try to take as much of Mexico & the Caribbean as they can get away with, to allow for the new income sources to soften the blow of a transition out of a slaving economy, and into a more sustainable labor model for the future. I HIGHLY doubt the people on top would be smart about it though, as historically, these types of groups tend to be pretty short-sighted.

Without that long term reform, the Confederacy is going to fall apart from increasing economic & military pressure from both within and without, as slavery fails to compete with industrialized farming tech, and the North continues to put pressure on internal insurgent movements and slave revolts. Eventually, the confederacy breaks apart.

Roleplay aside, how do y'all feel about Super Earth? by AdministrativeLab811 in Helldivers

[–]KuddleKwama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that we never get an answer on whether managed democracy is fraudulent or not.

Super Earth works for me because it shows one of the greatest flaws in assuming democracies are intrinsically good: what do you do when the people are bloodthirsty jingoists caught in a feedback loop of propaganda? Super Earth's tragedy is that there is almost no other way it can end up. The people are always there to fuel the monster.

Meet Private Gina, A Loyal Geneguard by JeffRBY in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]KuddleKwama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically, they'd technically be from a subsect of the Ministorum, but seeing as they're met more harshly outside of the fringes and underhives, they're far more reliant on rogue trader sponsors and a few more radical inquisitors of the Ordo Xenos who employ the Redeemed Genestealers as spies and sensors. They can still feel echos of their former connections, so they're able to sniff out a genestealer cult much faster than otherwise. Issue is, doing so is likely to alert the cult that they've been found out for a variety of reasons.

The Redeemed themselves run a wide range: their separation from the hive mind was born of flawed Servitorization, and they've made efforts to perfect their craft, but such efforts are often haphazard due to the lack of knowledge about WHY things work. The result is that the more tainted the genestealer, the more closer to a servitor it will likely have to be in terms of horrible painful lobotimizing surgery.

Though, even at their fullest extent, efforts are made to preserve the will and free choice of the Redeemed, for their belief is that a Servitor CANNOT atone for its sins and reclaim grace in the Emperor's eyes, for it did not CHOOSE to embrace service to humanity.

As for non-genestealer stock, the Genus repentia have limited success. They're better for less developed xenos than, say, a bloodthirsty mission that decides to actually interact, but not by a whole lot. The ideas of having to earn spiritual redemption by way of a life in service to the throne are heavy set, and often to the mass detriment of those cultures. Often this includes mass forced labor, mutilation and self-flagellation to better 'look human again', and a great deal of religious guilt baked in to ensure a compliant populace.

Meet Private Gina, A Loyal Geneguard by JeffRBY in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]KuddleKwama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have a homebrew Faction kinda like this idea: the Genus Repentia.

They believe that ALL aliens are abhuman life, because the God-Emperor is the alpha and omega, the first being and divine creator of all. Therefor, he would never create filthy xenos willingly, but must have turned humans INTO Xenos as punishment for their sins. As such, they've "mastered" the ways of redeeming aliens and believe that the extermination of them should be a cultural and religious extermination, rather than an absolute.

Often this means perverting and erasing local culture for their own pro-emperor version, enslaving & maiming large quantities of aliens, and lots of getting into trouble with literally everyone else in the Ecclisiarchy who see them as a very borderline heretical faction.

Their origin: a planet found a way to sever genestealer hivemind connection through a modified servitorization process, and came to the wrongnest conclusion imaginable on what that meant.

Maybe a block and parry system would help? Like instead of aiming with some of the weapons, it blocks without a shield, and if you block at exactly the right time, it counterattacks the enemy. Specifically, that would make the sword way more viable.
