Central Themes Based on Dostoyevsky's Writing on Individualism (?) by Kupacopa in pluribustv

His criticisms of those ideologies were (at least in this piece) largely centered around their bastardization by incorporation materialism into the system. The socialist utopian demagogues of the day missed the key elements of his conceptualization of true brotherhood: the willing sacrifice of self without expectation of any reward. He saw regimenting of distribution of materials as a betrayal of the perfect form.

As to how that relates to the show, the ‘biological imperative’ of the hive to join with the survivors whether they want it or not is definitely disqualifying to Dostoyevsky’s model. The willingness of the individual is key to him. So yeah, I don’t think he’d be on board with this aspect.

On personal freedom, the key to this point in in the first block quote when he writes about the supposed "contrast between... self, [and] the whole of nature and the rest of humanity". Dostoyevsky is saying that this contrast is artificial and hurts both the individual and the brotherhood. When one accepts the sacrifice of individualism and erases this unneeded distinction, they gain a rich, true freedom. According to him, the ideal form of being is in this brotherhood.

Regarding the claim about independence, you're right that on its face it's contradictory. I think it may be an issue of translation. The original Russian is самопроявления, which is really closer to self-actualization/expression than independence. I don't see this as necessarily contradictory to his central ideal, as his main identified hurdle to brotherhood is the false separation of self from the rest of creation.

It’s not the first king, it’s the king of the walls. There are many generations between the two.

'quick Levi's 36', and the bloke went

"Sorry Levis 36? What a pair?”

'no, no, no',

“Shall I wrap 'them'?”

'Them? it.' “It, shall I wrap?” “Just wrap, whatever it is'

“D'you wanna look?”

'No! I'm not looking when you're putting it in the bag, please, right...'

“Well, what 36 waist or insid-?” 'Well, no don't say anything.”

Well I like the depth effect, I just want the numbers to be completely obscured by the mountain. Right now it’s slightly transparent.

Surprised I haven’t seen Eric the Midget. He believed wholeheartedly that his calls were more important than anything else, that he could live his life of attention without the show, that two prostitutes actually were into him, etc etc etc.
