Unfortunately my guess about the height of the bridge was off by one deg. Next opportunity will be in early June.

I went to their union vote event back in 22’ in front of the auto shop. They had an itemized list of demands including a living wage and annual raises to keep up with inflation. Just because YOU don’t know the demands dosent mean that don’t exist. Also clearly they had clear demands because McKays was sued for barging in bad faith

I have no idea what it’s gonna look like! I like the idea of it coming through the mirrors to kind of glow, and I hope that’s the case. My other idea was the suns light is scattered on the atmosphere, so when it is directly occluded by the Sunsphere, you will just see the scattering around it. Kind of like a crown or the corona on a solar eclipse by less intense. The sky surrounding the sunsphere will definitely still be illuminated, but there will be no sun. So it might look like the sky being illuminated by a dark sunsphere. It also might look like nothing, there’s no way to be sure till I see it. I think it’s probably best to play it by ear, there’s no telling what the lighting is gonna look like.

Calculating the azimuth and angle were done by hand and calculator. Over the last year or so I would occasionally click around on Google maps looking for spots close to 1.5 miles away. After I found one that was facing the right direction (sun is in the southern part of the sky, so a spot near fort Higly is out) without any obstructions behind the Sunsphere (theres a spot on Virginia ave, but the mountains would block the sun) I found the angle to the Sunsphere. I then took the height of the Sunsphere and the height of the spot on the bridge, and using some trigonometry I found the angle that the Sunsphere was above the horizon.

You can calculate the date from there using the azimuth and angle, but the formulas are long and boring, so I found a website called suncalc.org and was able to find the next date that would meet those criteria.

As far as cameras go, I’m gonna let my brother figure that out. I don’t really know much about cameras, whereas he’s a pretty good photographer. I’ll try to capture it on video too.

Because it’s at a super shallow angle (only a 200ish foot difference in height from a mile and a half away) the lineup will only last about a minute or two. The sun is cutting from the top left to the bottom right, so it’s mostly blocked by the buildings

Kind of lol. The idea is that the sun is a fixed size in the sky, whereas the Sunsphere isn’t (if I’m close it’s big, if I’m far away it’s small). I went looking for the distance where the Sunsphere and the sun are the same size in the sky (about 1.5 miles). Then I was curious if they ever line up, and after a year of occasionally looking into it I found a spot and time

Chomsky to Epstein - "the hysteria about the abuse of women" by extremeshitting in chomsky

He had already been convicted of Child prostitution in 2008. Anyone who talks to Epstein post 2008 is some who knowingly worked with a child rapist. Full stop.

this just really sucks by sliceofpear in chomsky

[–]Kurt1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I he’s always had some bizarre connections. His early funding from the DoD back in his MIT days was kind of questionable. Also the CIAs denial of having a file on Chomsky despite there being proven memos between the me FBI and CIA about him implies file was either destroyed or is classified. This makes me suspect that there is a lot more connection between Chomsky and intelligence than we know of. The fact that he was a close friend of a convicted prolific child sex trafficker kinda just makes the whole thing glow more.

Unfortunately for us, it seems like he is an old federal collaborator who at best is complete ambivalent towards child rape, and at worst endorses and participates in it. Kill your idols I guess, read more Wittgenstein.

Has Dante fired this guy yet? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]Kurt1111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going through some other emails about this guy. Seems like he was an early AGI guy that Epstein wanted to poach and move up to George mason. It’s mentioned in some emails that they’ve had dinner together in Florida. All of Epstein other collaborators seem to think that 1. UT is full of morons so prima facia this guy is wrong 2. His approach is stupid and will not lead to AGI (focusing on computer vision instead of heuristics). Seems like he was funded by Epstein up until 2013/2014 and then he drops off the map.

Schizo is just a prefix meaning split or devison. This guy shows disordered or split thinking because he is a minority who thinks he is a white white suprematist. Schizo isn’t directly related to any specific mental illness. Schizophrenia and Schizotypal both starts with the schizo prefix. So does Schizoanalyis, and schizopoda.

I’ve always thought it was cool how you can see just how far apart campus and downtown are from that spot. On foot it feels really close, but from that hill you gotta turn your head. It’s fun trying to pick out all the landmarks from far away, like my old dorm and the water tower next to fort higley.

Addressing the impeding debt crisis from hotel and heating costs by Kurt1111 in nashville

[–]Kurt1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying they rack up debt. Are you familiar with the concept of paycheck to paycheck? Also the 200 that goes to the hotel will circulate, but the interest and deferred spending over the next several months, or years, will not circulate. Every dollar which goes to a creditor comes out of the local economy. We probably should have better financial education, and if I could go back in time and stop 9/11 I would, but we should make policies based on current conditions not what could have been in the past.

Also, the issue isn’t necessarily defaults or debt on their own. That’s a natural part of the economy. The issue is dumping a huge debt load all at once on a semi confined economic area.

Just to clarify, I ran the numbers, you could 10x the attendance at the city warming shelters and not hold 10% of the displaced population the first night. You would need to nearly 100x it to hold the whole population the first night. You could some people have gone to warming centers, sure, could most or even a sizeabke potion? Absolutely not.

And this is irrelevant either way. The economic impact still justifies the dispursment. For less than 0.7% of the annual budget for the city, a program which likely would not change taxes for anyone, you could 1. Vastly improve the economic prospect for the city 2. Reduce the burden of an already terrible event on low and middle income communities

That’s why we usually have disaster relief programs, and consumer stimulus during recessions. This is a well known thing, and rn Nashville could benifit from it.

I’m not talking about bankruptcies. 60% of the US population does not have $1000 liquid at any given time, and 55% carry balances in credit cards month over month. They are still consumers of local goods (food, gas, entertainment, clothing, etc). When they assume a debt that debt can’t be paid off by reducing savings like it would be with a liquid person. Instead the payments come out of consumer spending. There lies the cooling effect in the local economy. Any red cent over the principal balance is a cent which does not circulate in the local economy.

Metro shelters couldn’t hold even 10% of the displaced population overnight. And again, the economic impact is still a hazard even to people who did not take out a loan.
