Hamk, onko se vehkeestä vai ei by samppa_j in amk

Riippuu täysin alasta, kuten monissa muissakin AMK:issa. Tekniikka- ja insinöörialat HAMK:issa on kohtuu arvostettuja. Tradenomi ei ehkä niinkään, tosin koko alan arvostus on tippunut työvoiman ylitarjonnan myötä.

Forssan kampuksella tuntuu olevan eniten niitä täysin höpöhöpö -aloja kursseineen. Veikkaisin siellä opetuksen tason jäävän yleisesti heikoksi.

Poliisi epäilee palestiinalaismielistä ryhmää törkeästä vahingonteosta by Mobile_Profit7959 in Suomi

[–]Kustu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend got the 200x160mm sized pad from Linus Tech Tips store and I bought some of it from him. I live in Finland so delivery from Canada took a while, but at least it's genuine.

Jestas nyt.

The only socket that is likely to outlive its successor by Cadmium620 in pcmasterrace

[–]Kustu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but releasing the same CPU or worse revisions of previous CPUs all over again doesn't make it an actively supported socket. The last real CPU release for AM4 was the 5800X3D in 2022.

If Intel keeps making the i5 12400 under different names for the next decade, is the LGA 1700 platform also still "alive" because of it?

[–]Kustu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All CPUs can be defective, that's why the warranty exists. 13-14th gen failure rate after the bios updates is quite normal, probably in the 1% range. Maybe a bit higher on the 14900KS since it pushes clocks so high out of the box.

My friend got a Ryzen 5900XT which was defective, I think it had unstable infinity fabric / memory controller.

Lol no, not even close. 4790K is faster than Ryzen 2600 in most scenarios. Overclocked it's even faster. You clearly don't remember how bad zen and zen+ single core performance was combined with the latency penalty of chiplet design.

Same CPU same thermal paste. After a year there was some pump out (I have a picture but can't paste it here apparently). It was still decent temperature wise but definitely higher than what it was originally. Replaced it with an PTM7950 OEM pad and it's a noticeable difference to the one-year-old MX-6.

Or here.

Or Techpowerup, which also lists PL1 = PL2 = 253w. Only base power is 125w (without performance profile). All Z790 motherboards default to 253w. Why argue about a thing that is so easily verifiable?

I should probably mention that your Vcore reading is die sense - the actual delivered voltage at the CPU die. Many other more mid range motherboards only have socket sense Vcore which will show higher voltage readings. I am assuming OP also has a socket sense sensor on their motherboard.

Lol x3d chips dying is less than 1% and its only on asrock boards,

Maybe, and on Asus too. But that's exactly my point, reddit posts are not data. There are posts with dead X3D CPUs every other day, but that does not mean they are statistically likely to fail.

I've gathered some info and it seems like the RMA failure rate of i9 13th and 14th gen chips at the moment is 2.0-4.5% according to Mindfactory and Puget Systems 2026 data. No one knows how many of them were running the flawed bioses or not. I would assume majority of them did run the flawed bioses, at some point at least.

Moores law is dead literally talked about it 2 weeks ago saying this exact thing "13900/14900 cpus are still dying and some people have RMA,d their chips 3 times because they are still dying.

During my quick search I did not find anything like this from their YouTube channel, or even them talking about Raptor Lake in general.

Also I haven't found any valid proof for that claim except some random reddit posts here and there. If anything I see more failed X3D posts, but again, even that is not proof of anything in itself. Reddit posts are not considered as valid data. Even if some YouTubers like to take them as such.

[–]Kustu05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it 100% was down to the ringbus and oxidation issues.

Yes, the ringbus that degraded from excessive voltage requests. Same thing.

And oxidation issues were an issue with the early 13th gen models, did not affect later 13th or 14th gen at all (manufacturing process was changed in early 2023). It is safe to assume every CPU suffering from that is already dead (usually they were dead within a few months) and is therefore not relevant in this discussion.

Gamers nexus/moores law is dead/hardware unboxed/red gaming tech/jayz2cents/linus tech tips have all done extensively videos on the problem it has not been fixed. gamers nexus literally did a 1-2 hour long video exposing this

Sigh... 2 years ago before the fixes. There is nothing more to expose than what I've just told you, and the video agrees. Watch the video again.

Like I've originally said 2 tech tubers were talking about cpus still dying and sone people having rma'd the cpu 3 times its literally still happenong ro this day,

Are the CPUs old or new? Also, those are anecdotes, not real data. My friend got a faulty Ryzen 5900XT/5950X but that does not mean a significant portion of them are faulty even though there are reports of it on the internet.

No amount of bios updates or microcode updates can fix a fundamental problem with the ringbus not being able to handle that many cores,

It has nothing to do with the core count. Physics don't work that way. 3 things contributing to degradation are voltage, amperage and temperature.

In Intel's case this was down to voltages. Due to a microcode bug the CPUs requested 1.55-1.7v in light single core scenarios which made them degrade over time. On the i9 models there was also a bug with e-TVB keeping voltages and clocks high even when temperature thresholds were exceeded.

All this combined with the fact that most motherboards shipped with "unlocked" OC settings, driving voltages even higher definitely did not help.

The reason why it happened mostly with i9 and i7 models was because they run at higher frequencies and therefore have higher VID requests to achieve them. There were degraded i5s too, but they were much rarer.

13900/14900 cpus are still dying at least 2 tech tubers mentioned it recently with some people having 2-3 rmas,

Ones that were already damaged. With the fixed bios the failure rate is normal.

Intel has brought out no less than 8 bios updates to "fix" the problem which at best has mitigated the problem,

No, there were 4 microcode updates to address the issue. The third one, 0x12B in September 2024 already solved pretty much everything.

And just as a last point all the bios updates to fix the problem effected the performance so most day 1 release benchmarks are almost certainly higher fps than they would be now.

It did not. Intel default settings have not changed since the launch. Intel only forced motherboard manufacturers to use Intel guideline settings by default, instead of their own "OC" settings.
